Not sure if it was because it was holiday Monday so will chalk it up to less available kitchen staff but from order time of our mains to being served was unbearably long and food was average at best. From finishing our oyster appetizers which were ordered at approx 630ish our mains did not arrive until 730. Mains were 3 clam chowders, fish tacos, salad and salmon burger. Not overly complicated. Our desserts were also painfully long to arrive. The only...read full review
My favourite restaurant in Calgary, went again tonight, best service, best food, my go to restaurant for the best food and service
Amazing. We chose big fish & open range because they had Frog Legs on the menu, and we like to create memories and adventures when travelling with kiddos.
Did NOT disappoint!
We had a wonderful meal, excellent frog legs, fish, chicken, house-made sauces, everything we had was amazing. Highly recommend.

Big Fish & Open Range in Renfrew offers delicious and fresh ingredients, with a variety of dining options from brunch to dinner. The restaurant is known for its excellent and professional service, as well as a warm and open atmosphere. Customers can enjoy not-your-average brunch offerings and personable service. The set menu 3-course dinner is highly recommended. The lunch menu features an amuse-bouche and a range of appetizers, such as calamari and steak bites. The steak bites were flavorful, while the calamari was considered mediocre. Main dishes like ribeye and fish and chips were plated well and received mixed reviews. Recent reviews highlight that all meals and desserts, including walleye with mashed potatoes, pistachio artic char, and bison short ribs with scalloped potatoes, were excellent. Many guests enjoyed the fish and chips, with one stating it was the best they had in a long time. Desserts like hazelnut torte and orange caramel received praise, and attentive service was noted. Visitors appreciated the friendly staff who accommodated special requests, such as light dressing on salads or a salmon burger without the bun. The venue is clean with plenty of indoor and patio seating, and the menu features both seafood and meat options. The background music is different and low enough so guests can talk easily, creating a relaxed environment. Many find the food flavorful and worth the experience, making it a popular spot for returning visits. The restaurant’s unique atmosphere and variety of dining options make it worth visiting. However, some comments mentioned that parking in the back has a single handicap stall, which can make access difficult for those needing assistance. Overall, the staff, food, and atmosphere combine to create a great dining experience.
