Bourbon Street Bar & Lounge Cocktail Bar • $
1568 Cooper Hill Rd, Irondale

“Stopped in while I was in town on business. I know from experience, you can't judge a book by its cover. And Bourbon Street Bar was just what I needed. First thing I noticed was the clean parking lot. Signs posted warned of possible physical violence for those who dispose their butts on the ground. Walking up, I recognized the architecture as a forgotten relic from yesterdoodle. It's an old Pizza Hut, dressed up with plywood and awnings. I knew I was in the right place, when I opened the door, and was greeted by a couple of puppers and the bartender. This was 10 months ago, so her name escapes me. But I have a pretty good feeling she's still there, shining glasses and crafting cocktails. I wanted a quaint place to hang out. And found just that. A couple locals, a couple well behaved pups, the bartender, and the elderly owner rounded out the roster of everyone in attendance. The owner had to be in his mid 80s, and was sharp as ever! With a golden sense of humor to match! I had a great time with my boss and a coworker. We were in town to purchase a machine built locally to Birmingham. We work back in Wisconsin. After a couple drinks, and a few rounds of fetch, I felt like I was with old friends. We talked about the area, things to do, things to see. Interesting history and happenings. I didn't want to leave! But, the hotel wasn't cheap, so we went back there to get our money's worth!! We definitely got our money's worth here!! Bourbon Street Bar and Lounge is a 10/10!! 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Would recommend!!“

“Delicious food and wonderful experience. We didn’t have a reservation and waited about 20 minutes to sit at the bar on a Wednesday night at 6pm. For drinks we got the americano and pecan old fashioned. A lot of ice in the drinks but they were delish! For apps we got the salmon tartine and the oefs mayonnaise (basically a soft boiled deviled egg). Cannot recommend the salmon tartine enough! Such fresh salmon and my fiancé was raving about it all night. For dinner we got the duck confit and steak frites! I have to say that is one of the best steaks I’ve had in my life, if I came back I’d get that over and over again. The duck was also delicious, crispy skin and perfectly seasoned vegetables. Ended with the coconut cake and espresso. Delightful meal, we will definitely be back! Thank you Chez Fonfon!“

“I recently went to Helen's and it left me thoroughly impressed and actually was looking forward to writing this review. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by an amazing staff whose warmth and hospitality set the tone for the evening. One of the standout features of Helen's is its consistency in delivering great food. The steaks, in particular, are among the best I've had in Birmingham, perfectly cooked to my liking and bursting with flavor. I have been here for date night aswell as gathering with a large group, Helen's ambiance and service ensure a memorable dining experience every time. One dish that stole the show for me was the beef ribs, a succulent and tender delight that showcased the kitchen's mastery of meat. The crawfish garganelli, with its flavorful profile complemented by ricotta salata that really tied the dish together for me.The wine selection at Helen's is commendable, with a range of options to suit every palate. They have a very nice whisky and bourbon selection, which if are into that scene, you know how hard it is for a restaurant to keep a consistent whisky and bourbon list due to the ABC, but that is a different story for a different time. I was impressed with staff's knowledge of wine pairings, enhancing the overall dining experience and elevating each dish to new heights. In essence, Helen's is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in top-notch cuisine accompanied by exceptional service. Whether you're a steak aficionado or seeking culinary delights beyond the ordinary, Helen Restaurant delivers on all fronts, making it a true culinary gem in Birmingham. The only issue I experienced was I was, too caught up to take pictures of the dishes. Don't sleep on Helens!“

The drink menu routinely rotates to be themed around a different part of the world. When we went, the theme was “Arabian Nights” and the drinks we had were amazing. We were tempted to get something to eat from their food truck, but after just having eaten at the shower we decided against it. We WILL be back to try drinks from the next menu and to try their food! There was an upstairs with a dance floor. They also have a nice patio with plenty of comfortable seating and some games if you’re into that. In addition, the bathrooms were nice and clean. “I was on my way to be a guest on the Blerd Survival Guide podcast and I had a little time to kill so I popped up over to The Electric after being told many times to try it. So what are the odds that this place was only 3 minutes from my destination! Anyways I popped in and checked out the inside and it was a very cool, comfortable, and hype like establishment. I put my order in online and didn't go in until it was the said time they gave me on the order. When I went in my food wasn't ready and so I had to wait probably another 30 minutes. Staff was working hard though so I wasn't stressing about it to hard. Staff was nice and offered me water while I waited. I finally get my food head back to the car and proceeded to unbox everything. I gotta admit that visually the food looked very good. First up I had the Classic which is a Flatbread that consists of pepperoni, conecuh sausage, mozzarella, provolone cheese, and basil. This ended up being very good. Nothing crazy to wow about but it definitely got the job done. Flavors were decently balanced I think my only grip with this is the pizza sauce could use a bit more work. I still would other this again anyways so don't let that stop you. 7.5/10 Lastly I got The Ballpark which consisted of country sausage, chili, cheddar cheese, yellow mustard, scallions, and hugged tight in a toasted bun. This was probably my favorite thing. The chili was so hot and tasted as if it was homemade. If it's not homemade I want to known where they buy it because it was pretty darn good. I'd eat it on its own! The sausage was very flavorful as well. The only issue with this was the bun it's definitely well toasted it was way to hard for me and shredded the roof of my mouth I would personally change the bun to something else but that'd just me. Either way this bad boy is a will order again and I give it a 8.5/10. Definitely go try this place when you get the chance it was really good and I hope I can come back soon!“

“Guys yesterday I got the chance to try The Essential. Not going to lie I only came here because they made the list of 25 best burgers in Alabama so of course I hade to try it. However we had to get some other items to try. To start off the place was very nice and welcoming not a huge place either but not too small. A very nice bar, great place for friends and small family gatherings or even a nice date night. 8/10 I also really loved the open kitchen they had you could see the chefs working hard and getting the dishes out. Our waitress (forgot her name) was probably hands down one of the best waitresses I have ever had and even got some up sales out of me. Also got to meet who I think was either the manager or the owner not sure but he was very nice too. 10/10 on customer service. APPETIZER: BAKED MOZZARELLA (Lioni cheese, calabrian sauce, fontina). This was so freaking good its hard to explain but I'm going to do my best. It's baked mozzarella but eating it you'd definitely think it was fried but it was not. The sauce was so good its not marinara sauce kind of is but with a slight spicy kick. I absolutely devoured this thing. Probably my favorite dish of the whole night. 10/10 We also recieved free focaccia bread which is one of my favorite breads and it was so good. I was not a big fan of the ricotta cheese blend though it's just me I'm not a fan of ricotta cheese lol. But the bread itself was top notch. So fluffy and yet properly toasted and buttery. 8.5/10 Now for what I and all of you are waiting for: CHEESEBURGER (Bear Creek beef, big mac style, fries) This burger was so fresh and delicious don't let the picture fool you it was not very big but still very delicious. The Big Mac style sauce was good. The ingredients you could easily tell were very fresh but I feel like seasoning wasn't executed well and lacked salt and pepper. Fries were cut fresh very good and well seasoned. Do I think it deserves to be on the top 25 list? Yes but what they are charging for it I think it's a bit much for what you actually recieve. 8.9/10 Second entrée was: HALF CHICKEN PIRI PIRI (guajillo marinade, peanut-lime gremolata, fries) This was some flavorful juicy chicken Piri Piri definitely done right however correct me if I'm wrong but half chicken means half a chicken right because we only recieved a butterflied chicken breast. Maybe I'm missing something here and someone can help me understand. 9/10 Last but not least dessert: CARROT CAKE (swiss meringue buttercream, whipped cheesecake) The dessert menu wasn't very extravagant and very limited but I found out they own their own bakery so the cakes were made in house so we got the carrot it. It was very good and very moist however it had coconut all over it and I flat out don't like coconut it's a texture thing not a flavor thing. For the price you pay for it I definitely expected a bigger slice then what we recieved. But with that being said 8.5/10 Would I come back here? Yes! Do I recommend this place? Yes! However I think for what you're paying for some for the items I think the portions should be adjusted accordingly. Staff was spectacular food was great and I really enjoyed my time here.“

Service came out at a leisurely pace without feeling rushed or slow. The food was the star of the show. We ordered whipped ricotta, magic city mushrooms, and crab cake starters for the table. The mushrooms were on the highlight reel and so ,so good. Pasta course for the table was the pappardelle pasta and the lobster raviolo which were both perfect. We couldn't even pick a favorite. The sirloin was cooked perfectly medium rare and well seasoned. Dessert was the bananas foster cheesecake, which was the perfect ending to a decadent meal. Will absolutely go again and highly recommend.“

“They don’t call it soho “social” for nothing. It was very loud inside with all the “socializing” but with limited stops from the waiter/waitress, I feel if we sat outside this review would be better. Food was delicious though. But if you get the maple brussel sprouts be prepared for very crunchy and sweet flavor with very little brussel sprouts. I won’t order them again.“

“I decided to go here on Sunday after eating dinner. This spot is sort of hidden as I've driven by it a numerous amount of times and never saw it! Upon walking in it's certainly a small spot with a super cute theme! The servers were pretty nice too and the drinks were pretty good. The menu is easy to follow and the music was pretty good too! Cute spot for sure!“

“Had dinner with family and loved the experience so much. I started with a cocktail that was delicious, followed by an appetizer of oysters. The oysters were so tasty and so far Donald, our waiter, was very attentive and knowledgeable. I decided to try the noodle bowl and was not disappointed. The seafood in the bowl was seasoned and prepared perfectly. The broth was so yummy it could have stood on its own. I love the seating choices, (chef's counter, bar, table) the decor, the location, and the service. I love this place!“

“Took a shot on this bar and happy we did. Awesome service and the atmosphere is chill, fun and relaxing. We decided to order some food from the restaurant a couple doors down while we enjoyed our delicious cocktails! Our lovely bartender was so awesome and she even gave us glass plates and some silverware to use so we didn't have to eat out of the styrofoam containers!! We love bars that we can bring outside food in to while we get our drink on and this bar is in a perfect location to take advantage of the 3 restaurants within walking distance!! This bar is so welcoming and the bartender had a lot to do with that so a huge "Thank You" to Edwina!! We will be back!“

“Grand Cantina hits the marks. It's a nice sized restaurant with more seating than you might expect It offers two dining areas, a full bar and can certainly accommodate large parties. Ambiance is fine. Not a traditional style for a Mexican restaurant but is bright and clean. Service here was friendly and staff were willing to accommodate the requests that we had without any issue. The menu is large with a lot of traditional entrees to choose from. For an appetizer we had queso with beef - really good. Much bigger than expected, I would definitely order this again. The staff brought a big basket of chips which was great as we didn't run out while enjoying our appetizer. Each person at our table was brought their own bowl of salsa and they provided a bowl for each person for the queso. Little differences like this made the dining experience better - I appreciated it. Entrees were very good. Served with rice and beans which were "typical" but the entrees themselves were loaded with meat and had great flavor. Prices here are very reasonable and I thought a great value for the quantity provided. Overall a satisfying dining experience on all fronts and I would not hesitate to recommended to anyone looking for American-Mexican food.“

“I stayed here this pass weekend. The room was clean the staff was cool too. The location is within 5 mins of BHM airport and about 10 mins from downtown. The hotel was being remodeled while I was there, but I didn't experience any loud noises. The breakfast is $9.50 person, so I'd would just go somewhere else. Parking is free. The only problem I had was the hot water went out it took them about 45mins to get it fixed. They let us checkout late for the inconvenience. I would stay here again.“
