“Some restaurant menus make me feel good, prompted by good ingredients, spotless floors and a staff that understand that it’s as hard to keep a customer as to create a new one.Other places, and you probably know of a few, offer a lot of pastas and entrees, or maybe a few signature dishes that make a place unique, but disappoint when overpaying for a lower experience. I wish them well. But some restaurants surpriseme. I just had lunch at Basta, in Agora’s Whizzin Market and gotta say I’m surprised, and a little miffed.Sure the staff are great with each one genuinely happy I came in. They even smiled. The atmosphere is open, inviting, warm and has a great combination of Mexican blues, warm tones, and wrought iron.I’ve never been here before as Whizzin Market is a little out of the way for me.But in spite of all the reasons it should have all been in the feel good category, my lunch went another direction.I had originally thought to order one of the bowls which cater to veggie, meat, or fish prefs. The Jidori Chicken Bowl seemed my speed which I asked about. My server, Cruz asked if I wanted the roast chicken or the bowl?Roast Chicken is my comfort food and I lost my mind for a beat. Then committed a classic amateur restaurant goer move:The panic order.“Roasted, please,” I heard myself say. Cruz refilled my coffee and disappeared. The dice now rolled, I waited. The chicken was good. No, not just good, but magnificent. So good I felt a mix of relief, surprise and annoyance. None of this was directed at the staff, Basta’s management, or the even the poor chicken.First, being from a small town in Indiana originally, I’ve eaten chicken at least 23x a week since 1970 and I’ve never tasted chicken like this. From the light golden sauce to crispy skin, it was ideally cooked and served immediately. I had no idea. No exaggerating.Second, that this lunch in terms of price point is a super value. Check the menu when you stop in, but you’ll find Basta a wonderful value for the level of care and attention to it all.All that to say, I’m so mad I haven’t been here earlier. Regardless of the distance, it should have been on my list.Consider yourself warned you may feel the same.Parking: Get here early if Canyon Club has a show.“

“Surprised to find such a massive but cozy atmosphere behind the big doors. Smell of smoke in the air was enticing and food was tasty. Menu had a nice variety even for this vegetarian. The onion straws were crispy and I loved their BBQ sauce.“
“I had heard so many good things about Moody Rooster that I was worried it could be overhyped. Nope. Not at all. Amazing would be an understatement describing my recent visit to Moody Rooster. The place was poppin and really good energy on a Saturday night. The service was impeccable, and our servers recommendations were on point. I was feeling special so I ordered the ribeye special. This was by far one of the best steaks I've had in a really long time. It was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was so tasty. The duck fat potatoes have me drooling just thinking about them. The caramel budino was the perfect dessert to top off a truly delicious and impressive meal. I can't wait to come back.“
“I ordered lobster tacos. The lobster meat is cooked perfectly, the cabbage gives it a crunch, and I like the spiciness from the chipotle aioli. This atmosphere reminds me of dining out in Mexico. Superb service. I recommended all to try this place.“
“My friend and I came here for the 1st time. We had heard many good things. This place did not disappoint. The food was very good. We really enjoyed each item we got. I recommended this establishment. Please note because of the shape of the building it can get quite loud inside.“
“Came here every weekend with my husband. The staff was always incredibly friendly and personable. Beers are on point and I love that there's a healthy selection of non-IPA options. Really enjoyed all of the events they put on. Moved out of state and we really miss our favorite hangout spot!“
“Excellent food, I had the smash burger, my friend the blackened salmon. It was a fun and really loud crowd. No problem getting seated. The staff was very professional and no pressure.Parking: Valet fills up quickly at busy times. I was so full they had to close it before I arrived. Very little street parking at busy times, and the area looks a little suspect.“
“Ricardo at The Six consistently goes above and beyond. He anticipates our needs, remembers our orders flawlessly, and introduced us to the most amazing banana cream pie. His attention to detail and respect for our time during work meetings make every visit a pleasure. Highly recommend!“
“It's a good little dive bar. But that's it. Nothing more nothing less. Parking is crazy tight. They have bands and karaoke sometimes. Breakfast on Saturday/Sunday. Nothing special to write home about but it's a cozy little dive bar everybody knows everyone.Dietary restrictions: If you're a vegetarian or vegan although they have salads this is probably not a good option.Kid-friendliness: Not really kid friendly, they do come in sometimes with mom and dad but not at night.“
“I brought a friend from out of town here for lunch. she'd never spent any time on the West Coast and she loves seafood. We had a window seat and a wonderful view of the ocean waves. My friend ordered a Paloma cocktail and our waiter told her about their Paniolo cocktail. We learned from waiter that it was made with agave spirit. She loved it. I had to have a taste and it was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. I ordered the Mango BBQ Chicken Salad, hold the corn, and it was so good I finished the whole thing. My friend had the Chilled Shrimp Salad and was able to substitute the Thousnd Island dressing for something else, on the side. We had an enjoyable lunch and I look forward to my next visit to Duke's Malibu.“
“Summer Somewhere Wines is a very small wine shop near PCH in Malibu. It's located inside the Fred Segal store but offers wine tastings. The brand is family-owned consisting of a seasoned wine maker husband and an artist wife that make their wines in Santa Barbara County. They have different types of wine tastings including whites, reds, and a mixture. We got the surfrider tasting ($30) which included 4 of their white wine offerings. The staff was very friendly and it was a good place for an afternoon wine tasting.“
“Really beautiful restaurant and our service was very good. Our waitress was very polite and informative about the area and answered all of our questions. The food however, must be like this because of the demographic. But we were expecting a more authentic Mexican experience. It was enjoyable but not exactly Mexican food more fusion. Will definitely return for the atmosphere though!!“
“This place is absolutely amazing! The food is just incredible and the view is breathtaking. I can't get enough of the delicious dishes they serve here. The drinks are also top-notch and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. Overall, everything about this place is just great. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience.“
“Not only are the servers super attentive but the food never misses. The food quality is consistent and we always leave satisfied! I've tried a variety of the steak options but the steak Ranchero is by far my favorite! The garlic rice is a perfect touch with the refried beans! Awesome place, definitely one of my go-to's!“
“Love this place for when I really want to treat my family to something special. I had Spanish mackerel sushi which was was smooth and buttery. The waitress suggested the banh-something roll and I was quite pleased with the flavor... the spicy little kick at the end was good and not too spicy. The only hiccup was that the waitress forgot to put my mom's order in, so unfortunately it came much later, but I'm still eating it a 5 stars because the manager took care of it right away and the waitress did a great job otherwise, from answering all our questions, seeming very knowledgeable, and asking if we were there for a special occasion; it was my son's birthday and the free mochi dessert was a lovely touch ?“
“The food was good, but a little pricey for breakfast. The service was pretty good until the waitress went on break and didn't tell us. There was no backup coverage. I would have preferred to sit inside because it was cold that day, but we would have waited longer since it was busy when we arrived. This was my first time dining at Sunrose.“
