“We ordered one of their specials, Regular Chirashi Bowl, 2 types of sashimi and one Spider Ramen. The food was great. The Chirashi Bowl was spectacular. The Spider Ramen was quite interesting. Nice presentation with fried soft-shelled crab and shrimp tempura. The sashimi was also very fresh.

The restaurant was quite fancy yet cozy. The price was on the expensive side, but the food was delicious.

“Exceptional hidden gem sushi spot. So glad we found this place. Very small, only about 6 small tables inside. All the sushi was exceptional, wide variety of foods including a sushi taco which was not a gimmick or stunt food, so so good. Prices were fair, they had a range from simple to fancy based on what you wanted. Miso soup was also delicious. The water cups were made of heavy stone, the miso bowls were handmade wood. I almost don’t want to recommend this place since it’s so small I’m worried it’ll get too busy! But they deserve it. Best sushi in the Bay Area.”

“At first glance, I was disappointed by the place as it was take out only. I had the Falafelle combo plus vegan Baklava. There was so much variety and lots of food. Loved the falafel, dolmas, pita. The sides were excellent with tabbouleh, sauerkrauts, salads. Very scrumptious. I thought the baklava was ok but husband really loved it. In any case, was really happy to have one as I haven’t found a vegan baklava in years!”

I do not believe they charge my son $65 00 a head for only khorsht ,kabob kobedh and chicken kabob plus sald and soft drinks after the discount from $75 (.because we are old customer and my Husbend helped them at time to find place In San Mateo and all so advertised for the ) I believe they worked so hard to get were they are now they did beautiful job but not any more , every thing is not only Money I had the secand memorial for my sons in anther Iranian restaurant 190 people only $50.00 a head service and food was excellent fresh lots of food not even one complaint. “Honestly the breakfast bagel was okay, but nothing about it was remarkable. If you're just looking for sustenance this gets the job done. But if you're looking for something memorable that you would look forward to and want to recommend to out of town visitors I'm not sure this place would make the cut. The seating was not very comfortable and the table was very wobbly which is annoying when you're drinking coffee. Water was available upon request but not self serve, so you'll have to keep bothering the busy staff if you want a refill. Same for sugar for your coffee, they literally counted out two sugar packets and if you want more you have to ask them again. Just a bit strange these days when most coffee shops just let you help yourself.”

“This was my first time to try this restaurant I am from San Jose I ordered the sweet basil chicken. It was very delicious the price was reasonable. The cashier was friendly and recommended the dish to me I was not disappointed with the sweet basil.The interior of the restaurant is clean and there is parking outside the restaurant.”

“It is rare that I would give a 5-star review to a restaurant that scores 4 on the food. However, I'm giving VK an exception. Yes, restaurants are about the food, but also the overall experience and the value.

VK has recently emerged in San Mateo and we visited for breakfast. This is not your high-end fancy breakfast place. This is a down-to-earth every day local eatery type of vibe. Of course not commercial as IHOP or Denny's and definitely a step above. It also isn't an Instagram shot type of a place. It truly exists to serve hearty food. And that's what it does.

The atmosphere again is a standard eatery. Sort of a diner, sort of a vanilla look & feel. I had the Steak Omelet and instant I could feel that this wasn't your commercial grade quality. The chef had used great ingredients and cooked it with care. Seasoned well, it was tasty. The side veggies also were done right. The pancakes were not top grade but could absolutely stand its own. The only reason why I retracted a star away was because it just missed border of being "special". Great food. Great taste. Just a bit too vanilla. Oh, and one of my pancakes still had a bit of runny batter in the middle, but that's okay.

Service was great. Coffee was bold and good, considering they brew these in pots.

All of the above, at a price point that is surprisingly equal or just slightly above IHOP.

VK's is absolutely a solid addition to the neighborhood. It isn't a place you come for. It is a place you go because you can rely on it. It is a working class, every day type of spot. And they are not shy about it. Will absolutely return.

“Went to this Starbucks yesterday. Walked in to a huge crowd backed almost out the door. To my suprise, only two people behind the counter. They worked fast and hard with smiles to accommodate their customers. Customers didn't get angry as they knew this was a lot for only two employees. Impressive.”

“This is the best El Grullense so far to me. The menu is good and has more variety, and good selections for vegetarians also. The service is friendly and even though it's small the space outside is very nice and comfortable to eat in.
