Pupuseria! (Steve place) Salvadoran •
13592 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove

“We stayed next door at the Great Wolf Lodge and were looking for dinner that wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg. We found this Pupuseria next door and decided to give it a try. I must say that we enjoyed the pupusas very much. They were delicious. The pricing was good and the size is that of your average pupusa. Our server was really nice and helped answer any questions that we had. He came constantly to see if we needed or wanted to order anything else. We actually did order a few more pupusas and a macho banana with condensed milk (which was delicious). I would definitely come back to eat here if I was in the area, or when we come back to the hotel next door. If you are staying at the GWL, just walk over, it's next door. No need to move your car from the crazy parking structure.“

“It's an older building so it needs some little upkeep but. It's small space. The food is great. The pupusas are delicious I always get the chicharron with cheese. They're piping freaking hot, even after 30 minutes after they've been picked up they're still super hot yet. But they're delicious tasty and homemade. Service is great They're always friendly when I'm placing my orders. Definitely need to visit them they're good“

“I ordered take out by calling ahead on the phone. Whoever took my order spoke perfect English. Someone on Google Maps posted pictures of their menu. This was helpful because the link to their web site does not appear to work, and those pictures are what I used to order (thank you whoever did that). I ordered Pupusas de Queso and Platanos Fritos con Frijoles y Crema Salvadorena. The Pupusa was perfect, the tortilla dough was cooked through, the cheese inside was delectably melted, some spots around the pupusa were darker than others, some cheese had oozed out of the dough and crisped up. Overall the pupusa was not greasy and it was not dry, it was simply delicious and precisely what I expected. Whoever is making them in the back, has the touch and is supremely skilled. I don't put salsa on my pupusas so I asked the server to take it back, so she offered more curtido instead to take home with me and I accepted. The curtido is also perfect, BUT it is spicy hot. I prefer my curtido with lots of flavor (oregano) and no heat, however despite the heat, I could definitely tell that if the hot sauce or whatever spice they added to it to make it hot were removed, the cabbage, the carrots, the pickling juice, the spices and oregano would absolutely shine through and land on the palate crisp, clean, healthy, and very tasty. It's a shame most restaurants now are cloaking their wonderful creations in a gallon of hot sauce for no other reason than they think this is what people want (more spicy). Anyway, nothing a little crema or milk afterwards couldn't douse. Their curtido is excellent, just beware of the heat. The platanos LOOKED greasy and overdone, but then I took a bite and had a flashback to my childhood. What happened here is that this restaurant has someone that is patient and knows exactly when the platano maduro should be fried (just like my Mother). Flor Blancas platanos were not greasy or overdone, they were absolutely perfect. The dark color was all from caramelization, that is, the result of frying a very ripe platano at its peak of sweetness and deliciousness. All that "God supplied" sugar browning up under intense heat. It was a bite to behold, almost like eating candy but a 1000 times better for you and your soul. I dipped my platano in my crema, the way you're supposed to do and the bite just got better. It was amazing. Then I nibbled on the frijoles and went "WOW". I make refried beans all the time, so I am the worst critic of this food. Flor Blancas refried beans are divine. There's this very subtle hint of a green pepper flavor to them, not sure if it is Jalapeno or Serrano, but there's no heat just FLAVOR. How they pull that off is beyond me. I savored the silky smoothness, perfect texture, not too dry, not too wet, just right. There's also no hint (or aftertaste at least) of fats in these beans (refried beans by definition contain a fat (lard, butter, or vegetable oil to refry them in). The texture and the smoothness are the result of this ingredient, but it takes a special and disciplined individual to know precisely how much to use to pull off the masterpiece refried beans I had tonight. I gave Flor Blanca five stars because they deserve them. They're expert craftswomen who get the basics right, period. Based on this experience, I'm willing to come back and try some of their other dishes. I just need to remember to bring enough cash with me because they don't take credit cards.“

“On recommendation from an El Salvodorena acquaintance, went to get some grub. Ordered the pupusas made from rice. The revueltas were great with generous curtido and some tasty salsas. Also tried the yuca frita. Very generous portions. Also very kind and helpful girl working the register and hand delivering orders to the waiting customers. Everything was made fresh to order. Will be back again!Thank you!“

“My friend Tony Assili took me there and, on the way, was ranting about how good it was.He wasn't lying. I had the Carne Asada, and he had the Huevos Ranchero. His looked good. Mine was great. First of all, my portion of meat was quite ample, especially considering the price. There was a beautiful half of an avocado and a large amount of rice. On the side were freshly made tortillas, and I mean fresh. They were piping hot and soft and fluffy. Wonderful. I thought that was good enough until I dipped my tortillas into the refried beans. Wow, I have never had refried beans taste like this. The meal also came with a nice little salad. The servers were super friendly and ready to fulfill your request. Oh, and the coffee was pretty darn good as well.If you're looking for fancy and pretentious, this isn't it. If you're looking for warm and inviting like a hometown diner, you should be pleased. My only regret is that I forgot to take a picture but only because as soon as the food arrived, I had to dive right in.I'll be back again with friends.“
