“I recently moved to the area and this was our first time at The Proper Restaurant but it most certainly won't be our last. Everything ... and I mean everything was excellent! I started out with the Proper Clover Club cocktail and it was so refreshing and delicious. My husband and I then shared the white chicken chili which was equally delicious. For our entrees, my husband ordered the miso salmon which was out of this world and I got the chicken piccata. The chicken was cooked perfectly, lightly breaded and the pasta was tossed in a wonderful lemonny piccata. I also had a Malbec which was so smooth, I wanted to order the whole bottle (but alas, I did not). And since everything else was so good, we couldn't leave without ordering dessert -- the warm butter toffee cake. My mouth is still watering thinking about it. I can't wait to go back to The Proper Restaurant!“

The drinks were strong and good. Get there early because it's a neighborhood favorite and fills up fast. The space is cozy, and parking is very limited.Parking: I only saw metered street parking, and there weren't a lot of spots available. You may have to park down the street and walk down to the restaurant.“

“Went on a Sunday for brunch and there was a hefty wait around ~1-1.5hrs, which was completely expected for the area. We were fine with waiting as there's a lot of neat shops to explore and farmersmarket in the area. We ordered the breakfast burrito, spicy chicken sandwich, ceviche, and pepperoni pizza. The ceviche comes with homemade huge taro root chips - which was a nice touch! Everything was delicious but the chicken sandwich was really wet - to the point of needing to eat with a fork and knife. I personally would not order it again as it felt a bit too soupy for me but overall everything was tasty. Service was great and friendly. We sat outside as we had our husky with us - the place was very dog friendly outside.“

“A beautiful date night spot where you can sit beneath string lights nestled in an alleyway, listening to live music (plus, they have outdoor heaters!). Plates are tapas style and the bar is full, with an advantage for mezcal enthusiasts. Bonus- The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They recommended some drinks for us to try and gave us some suggestions on the entrees. The drinks were great and we recommend the sea bass! Nice atmosphere with good service and lots of mezcal.“

“Great views and yummy food. Menu is quite eclectic with an Asian and Middle Eastern twist. Our waitress Jambeth was nice and politely asked us when we sat down if we had a show at the Pantages. That was very thoughtful and much appreciated. As it was we were there for my birthday and so we were not in a rush and could enjoy the skyline and cuisine. Ordered the shrimp cocktail, chicken liver and charred carrot starter. Had Cacio & Pepe, Charmoula and Duck Confit as our main. Was given a complementary dessert as it was my birthday with a candle which was a lovely gesture. Would definitely go back for drinks on summer evening and enjoy the sunset.“

“Absolutely fabulous! The beef tartare was superb. I had the black truffle risotto and there is nothing better than that on the menu in my personal opinion, rich, creamy, earthy, simply delicious. My mom had the crab pasta which was so complex, but the lumps of crab added such a lovely ocean flavor to every bite. Our server was incredible! She was so attentive and kind and patient with us. But the best part of the meal was the tiramisu, not your typical tiramisu but the chocolate record decoration made the whole evening. Also the cocktails were worth every penny, expertly crafted and unique.“

“I made a Resy reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Street parking was accessible and convenient a few steps away from the location. Once we walked in, I was greeted by first name by the host behind the bar who directed us to follow Lisa, our server, to our table for two in the garden patio. Once seated, she asked if we'd like to turn on the heated lamp, which we appreciated. We ordered the Hunan BBQ Pork Ribs (so meaty and smoky), Chilled Sesame Peanut Noodles (which my wife commented would be an ideal dish during a warm summer night), Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi (served on a toasted, pillowy brioche bun), paired with a side of the Shoestring Fries. Lastly we enjoyed an unexpected gift from the kitchen - Shanghai Triple Onion Noodles, which was a warm dish in contrast to the other cold noodles. As a thoughtful gesture, the bartender, offered us two glasses of champagne to acknowledge our occasion. To cap off our unforgettable meal, we ordered the Hochija Tres Leches and Honeymoon Bread Pudding. The perfect conclusion to a delicious and well-thought out dinner. For a location with a history dating back to the prohibition era (informed by Lisa), I'm glad to see it's continuing it's life as a bar with an innovative kitchen. The patio is covered and heated, but you may find yourself having to talk over the nearby tables or road noise. Valet parking only, $8 at the time of this review. There is street parking available on Fair Oaks though.“

I've never hosted an event here, but seems like a great spot for a birthday party with friends on a Saturday or Sunday - Margs and tacos and lots of space for socializing. Also very kid friendly! They have a great kids menu with options for picky eaters, frozen lemonade etc. Recommend the mexi cali taco and the Philly cheese steak! So good!“
