“My favorite Korean spot in Los Angeles. Did some research online for good kimchi and discovered this place. Their kimchi is fantastic, but then I also discovered this entire meal. This is perfect comfort food. Sunday mornings. Rainy afternoons or pretty much anytime you need something soupy in your life.“
“Fusion Filipino restaurant with natural wine and Filipino beer selection. After trying many under-delivered fusion Filipino restaurants, Spoon and Pork easily takes the crowd to have the best executed fusion style dishes. We had the sinigang, grilled chicken, adobo chicken wings, pork belly, and garlic rice, and none of them disappointed.Sinigang's soup was rich and flavorful while the topping in the soup was cooked separately so they are not over cooked. The ribs came with a real nicely grilled flavored. The pork belly had crispy skin as expected and the fat to meat ratio was really good. The adobo chicken wings sauce was thick and sticky and not too salty nor sour, we kept the sauce for dipping Even after the wings were devoured. We are glad we took another chance in another fusion Filipino restaurant and we'll keep S&P on our rotation.“
“If you're interested in trying popular Vietnamese entrees outside of pho, head over to Be U! This woman-owned eatery is located in a prime hipster Echo Park neighborhood, and to me, it's a perfect blend of my culture superimposed on Los Angeles's colorful cityscape. The menu ranges from homey comfort-food entrees to popular street bites, and some new-age fusion items as well. Atmosphere: 2/5 As a take-out-only restaurant located on Hoover Street, there's no seating and it faces traffic. If only there were some colorful plastic chairs (like the ones you see in SE Asia) - the vibes would be immaculate. However, you're either standing and eating or taking the food back to your home. Service: 3/5 Wasn't bad but wasn't warm or friendly either - service was okay Flavors: 5/5 Highly recommend: -Banh mi trung op la (banh mi with fried egg): homemade mushroom pate is delicious, it inspired me to make some at home. The egg was crispy to the heavens. -Rau ma juice: in English known as pennyworth, extremely refreshing, herbal, and will cool you down on a hot day. -Tofu goi cuon (spring rolls): The peanut sauce offered with this was so yummy! The spring rolls were super fresh and all the herbs complemented the flavors. Parking: 2/5 Street parking only, very limited Pricing: 3/5 Definitely not cheap for Vietnamese food, however, LA is a high-cost-of-living area so I understand that the owner needs to maintain overhead costs and pay her employees a fair wage! Expect to pay $4-5 higher than what you're used to paying in the OC/SJ/SGV. The reason why I rate it low is because the portions are significantly smaller than what you'd get at a traditional sit down Vietnamese restaurant Overall I recommend Be U if you're unfamiliar with Vietnamese food outside of mainstream pho, but if you're willing to drive to SGV, Garden Grove/Westminster, you'll be truly immersed in the cuisine and culture“
“Excellent kabobs, probably the best I've had in LA in the 5 years I've lived here. It's located in the middle of a residential area, and I had heard about it from so many people so I had to finally try it. I got the beef and chicken combo plate, and the meat was very tender and full of flavor. There isn't really a place to sit down and dine unless you want to sit at the one table out front, it seems like more of a takeout spot. The staff is INCREDIBLY friendly. A true " your friendly neighborhood" type of feel. I really appreciated that.I will add that they are very popular, so I would recommend calling in your order in advance for pickup to save yourself what could be a 1-2 hour wait. Much easier to then just go pick it up when it's ready.Parking: It's located in the middle of a residential area, so you have to find parking along the street. Alternatively, there is a shopping plaza about half-a-block away, and you could just quickly park there if you're picking up.“
“Great Pan Roast. The dining room has 40 seats, a bar, or sit at the chefs counter to watch the steam kettle chefs cook your food without having to go to a Palace train station in Vegas. Plus, we didn't have a wait on Sunday at 3pm.Parking: Plenty of parking, plus there's an underground lot.“
“my friend bashes indian food and perhaps not just their food well let's keep that to ourselves shall we the problem is the price fundamentally an american may view this cuisine as exotic however i also view it as exotic but perhaps not worth the exorbitant fees they charge perhaps indian food in LA is a bigger racket than anything scorsese filmed about“
“The food was ok tasting (we ordered the seafood pancake, soft tofu soup, bulgogi and mackerel) and the wait staff courteous. The banchan options were delicious. The place is a no frills mom and pop restaurant located in a shopping strip center.“
“A very solid place, everything was good. Not special, but good. If I'm close by in search of food I would definitely stop by again. We've enjoyed Short Rib Soup and Sulga Bibimbap. I loved that they paid some extra attention to rice and added quinoa. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive.“
“Dropped in on a rainy day, was greeted immediately and was sat in a nice booth. We ordered a salad and the special of the day, "A Spicy Meat-a Ball-a". Great ingredient combo and had a nice thin crust...very edible ?. The house salad was fresh and with their unique dressing, it was surprisingly delicious. Will definitely be a repeat customer!“
“One of the best Korean places I’ve been to. I loved their Pork Belly and Baby octopus dish. It had tons of bean sprouts which seemed a bit odd at first, but completed the dish. Everything was perfectly seasoned. A little sweet and salty but not too much of each. Very big portions and great side dishes.“
“Amazing. The food is just so good every single time. From their burritos, to their rice balls and oh my god, the Thai teaaaa. *Chefs Kiss* Please try their Thai tea at least once in your life. It's so creamy and delicious. Hands down one of the best I've ever tried. Will continue coming back for as long as they're open. It's won my heart and my belly.“
“This place is pretty good as far as hot chicken goes. It's not the best but it's decent, I've ordered from here plenty of times. But Rays is still at the top. They don't really have much of a space for sitting in and dining. So if you want to eat you need to go down one of the nearby alleyways and sit at the tables there.“
“Didn't take any pictures, but there's so much variety with this place! Next time I'm coming back, I'm definitely getting their $27 box of 6! Oh, and their dessert Nutella + Banana Empanada was really good! Sorry! No pics!“
“Discovered this gem on Doordash and ordered as takeout. I'm so glad I found this place and surprised it isn't more well known! I really enjoyed the ox bone sullungtang as it was milky and rich with umami flavor. I didn't even need to add salt! I also really enjoyed the radish in soy sauce and thought it paired really well with the brisket. I wasn't a fan of their kimchi, however, but the radish kimchi was decent. I think the broth is the star part of the meal and hope to dine in at this restaurant one day!“
“I don't leave many reviews but I felt compelled because of the level of customer service that I received from the manager, Jarod. I had dinner delivered, an item was labeled correctly but when I opened the container it was something else. I called the restaurant. He apologized, no big deal. He said he'd refund the item. The following day he calls me back to tell me he can't refund the item on his end. I need to contact the 3rd party delivery. He will make sure I get my item for free and throw in a desert upon my next delivery. I just need to contact him after placing my order, he will guarantee to put them in the bag coming to me.It's not that I'm getting something for free but that he took the time to reach out to me to make sure I got the refund I was entitled to. The rest was above and beyond my expectations. I liked the food enough that this was my second order in as many days but this propelled them to the top of my favorite restaurants in my area. I will probably order again very soon. Thanks, Jarod. Forgive me if it isn't spelled correctly.“
“Well I went to “Sun Nong Dan” first, but experienced some terrible behavior from the server seating us. So I left and took a leap of faith and went to the restaurant next door. I was so happy with this decision! The service was amazing. Everyone was kind and attentive. The spicy beef soup was on point too. I will absolutely be coming back!“
“Not a particularly large interior but well spaced tables. You order on an ipad screen at your own leisure.Ordered the half green onion and half garlic bossam with the pork belly kimchi stew.I highly recommend the garlic bossam if you enjoy garlic. The garlic mince is slightly sweet and pairs nicely with the pork. I personally didn't enjoy the green onion bossam as much because it's topped with a fermented soybean sauce, and in my opinion, the meat tasted significantly more gamey. The kimchi stew was really tasty. The spice level was perfect for someone like me who often orders mild or no spice dishes. It had a kick without being painful. The only complaint I would have is that the pork was quite dry and chewy. Also, rice is not automatically served with and you need to request it.For the banchan, the radish kimchi was a highlight while the pasta salad was very disappointing (it kind of just tasted like whole wheat bread but in a pasta form). Our server did a great job despite being the only one working the front.Parking: A small to medium sized parking lot shared by all the stores in that mall.“
“By far one of the most authentic Taiwanese restaurants I've been to. I say this because they've nailed down classic dishes you'd find in Taiwan. The oyster pancake was spot on along with the sauce. Service is pretty fast. Definitely come here for delicious Taiwanese comfort food!“
“My dear friend from work and I go way back in the late 1990's. We had lunch a couple months ago to catch up on old times. It was a nice catch up... thank you my friend for your wonderful company and spending time with me! We didn't have any Pasadena restaurant of choice so we just walked down the street and happened to see Takuya Japanese Restaurant. It's a very small place with just enough space to probably fit about 5 to 6 tables. It's cute and cozy though. Nice place to take a date, but the people in the neighboring tables may hear your conversations... you may want to be discreet when you profess your love or not LOL. My friend ordered the Beef Bowl and I got the Salmon Plate plus an appetizer with Mackerel. I really liked my salmon... cooked nicely and flavor was on point. Mackerel was a tad salty IMHO, but had good fish meat... watch out for the bones. My friend said her beef bowl was good, but she would have preferred her egg on top in one piece and not scrambled into the bowl LOL. The miso soup that comes with the meals was very very good. Staff was nice and pleasant. It was a one person show so kudos to our server for keeping up with servicing all the tables. Thank you! Prices were decent. Ambience was cozy. I will definitely be back to try their other chicken and seafood dishes the next time I'm in Pasadena. Happy Takuya'ing!“
“The owner was amazing , great atmosphere love the music he was playing , The cook looks happy made the food very good there fries are delicious ? every bite the sandwich is Soo exquisite ?? I highly recommend this place and this has been approved by me Deysi Henriquez ..“
“Food was delicious, i wish i took a photo but i got yukgaejang with extra meet. And let me tell you they did not disappoint or skimp out one bit. It was kinda hard to find though and it's in la but besides that, there are no negativesVegetarian options: If you like mushrooms then they have vegetarian options for you.Parking: Street parking sucks but they do have a parking area that was pretty empty i just didn't know they had one and parked in the street“
“Comparing this one to the one on Pico/Crenshaw, parking is much much easier and closer to the freeway. The chicken indeed seemed a ted less spicy hot but all the favors are there. (Went to Crenshaw 2 days later and clearly able to compare) As usual, ordered the biggest 20 piece dinning in and it was hot and juicy, especially the breast. Busy on the chicken left the fries cold but still nothing left to take home. The chicken was fresh from the frier as one was bubbling on the table. Teared up one of the breast and juice immediately drip onto the plate. I wore eating clothes every time I go to GUS to refrain from having ruined clothes to regret later. They gave me forks every time but I had never used them. Go wash hands and get dirty!“
“Drove by this place a lot while we went shopping at Good Fortune Market across street. My husband is a big fan of pan fried buns so we decided to check it out. Before came here, I looked at their menu and it had extensive and authentic flavors for dumplings and pies. That’s how I knew they were legit!!We came on a rainy Saturday around 11:30am there were only two other tables. I feel on a nice day it would be busier. For food we got:- pork scallion pie (5/5). Wowwwww a must try!! It was so juicy and flavorful. The outside is perfectly crispy. This is our favorite and we definitely will try other flavors next time.- pan fried chicken mushroom dumplings (5/5). I love the dumpling skin as you can taste the slightly chew and that’s how you know it’s handmade!- cucumber salad (5/5). Very refreshing and balance out the richness of all the fried dumplings.- pan fried bun (4/5). This is probably my least favorite although it’s still pretty good. It doesn’t have much juice as I thought it would like the pie. So I’ll stick with the pies next time.No fuss service. You order via QR code and food comes out around 10-15 minutes. They have a sign to explain the 15 min wait due to all handmade to order which is well worth it!! This has become our new go-to for weekend brunch.“
“Love this small restaurant. Was recommended by my husband's colleague, since then we went again and again. Today our son came with us, we all agreed a great restaurant. Just to make you understand how much we like this place, we come all the way from Riverside just to enjoy the flavors and back home.“
“I was staying at a friends house and asked if any of his local places did proper wholesome food and he recommended here! He also said it was family run, which a major plus for me, as I like to support such places if I can.We went along and after a fun chat with the waitress, placed our orders. We had soup and salad for starters, with absolutely delicious bread! Then we had Beef Pot Pie, with mashed potato, greens and thick gravy (Just like back in the UK). I have to say, it was delicious and I never thought I'd be able to have a pie and gravy in the states, like back home. This was all finished with ice-cream and I have to say the Mint choc chip reminded me of the equivalent Viennetta from home. The taste and texture, identical, which was good.Overall, the experience was excellent and the food hit the mark perfectly. I wish we had a similar place back in the UK near me.“
“Got Abuelita's pie and it was alright. I liked the main chocolate part & crust. Didn't like the whipped cream and the food was pretty pricey at $7.99/slice... Service was friendly and there was a clean place to sit. Not a place I'd go out of my way to visit, but it's there if you like pie. Money-wise, I think Wanderlust Creamery (ice cream) in the same indoor plaza is better bang for your buck.“
“I've been coming to this place for years. Food (Cantonese stir-fry and cafe style food) is consistently good here and everything i've ever ordered is solid. Of course, service is average like most SGV mom and pop. I love that they have their lunch specials everyday (maybe except holidays though?), including weekends. Also, you can add on a drink for a few bucks more. It does get packed and very hectic during peak hours (this includes the parking availability in the plaza lot) like during lunch time so pro tip is to put your name on their wait list here on Yelp. It really cuts down the wait time. Trust me on this! Some of my faves: - Honey Garlic Pork Chop - Fried Chicken (not sure the exact name but tasty; breast pieces can be a bit dry but you know, white meat) - Sweet & Sour Fish Filet - Pork Belly with Preserved Veggies - Seafood Tofu Pot - Stir-fry Egg Plant dish (I love eggplant and the sauce is delicious!) - Beef Lo Mein“
“Came here for early dinner because we were craving our boiling point usuals. It was solid, as usual. I like this spot but it can feel kinda tight! However, I couldn't help but think there were some things that bothered us. Their Taiwanese spicy has noticeably shrunk in size, they never really refilled the broth for us, service always felt kind of slow or non-attentive. Some workers knew we were waiting on them because we even eyed them but I think I guess they were busy with something else, at the same time it felt like we were being avoided lol. Anywho will probably still eat here cuz it's boiling point! Park in the nearby parking structure!“
“Love Barney's Beanery. We had the Rueben Sandwich and Taco salad along with Boo Bear and Dogtown drinks. Unfortunately, while sitting on the side patio, staff from restaurant, the Kebob Restaurant, Lav Shash, decided to stand outside the patio and smoke. Ruining it for 4 tables. He was within 20 feet, which is against Pasadena Smoking ordinance. Don't recommend Lav Shash as the waitstaff does not follow city ordinances. But don't miss Barney's. This is a historical restaurant with Hollywood roots. Great food, great drinks, and a cool vibe.“
“Have passed by this place since they opened way back when. We decided to have Saturday breakfast here instead going to our usual places. We were not disappointed as we were seated right away and menus given by our server. Not too many ppl at 9a so lots of seating choices! Many regulars eating here as servers and bus staff greeted each other by name! Ordered the usual omelette and short stack which arrived quickly and was delish! Easy parking lot and we will be back!“
