“Portalupi offers a number of wines that diverge from most of what you'll find at the majority of wineries in northern Sonoma County. Starting with a Barbera-based sparkler (a little drier, please). After wading through a couple of decent dry whites (Arneis, Vermentino), and skipping some of the lighter reds, we moved on to some of the bolder offerings: Barbera, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo-- all winners. Dolinsek Pinot was a nice surprise; a departure from the rest of the (Italian) lineup. “"The best part of waking up . . Is Emilou's coffee in your cup!" Isn't that how it goes? Ha! Today I had the pleasure of fueling up at Emilou's Cafe. I went to grab my coffee order & get my day started. This hidden gem was located next to 'Hi-Tide Laundromat' right behind an oasis of plants. There is a large floor marker that reads 'locally roasted coffee' & I knew I had found the spot. A quaint space with a small ordering lobby & a couple of chairs, window-front. The small cafe offered an assortment of drink options, so I checked out the menu. After a quick study of the menu I went with the 'Whipped CBD Honey Latte' iced. Sounded like a nice way to get me a 'up' a little & down a little. Iykyk. My drink was carefully yet quickly crafted by a friendly gentleman staff member. I forgot to mention wanting to request a milk alternative but was asked just before it was added making it easy to adjust before receiving my drink. My gut thanks you, kind sir. I stepped outside to the plant cloaked patio to enjoy my drink. My drink [Whipped CBD Honey Latte] was tasty & refreshing. Perfect midday pick me up.. Rich coffee complimented with a hint of honey & ice to perfection. My only wish was that it was a little sweeter but otherwise this was 'the perfect cup'! I'll certainly be back to fuel up another day & will turn up the sweetness a notch. Thank for making a gorgeous cup of joe & for hosting my coffee experience! Cheers to a successful 2024!“

“I've been a big fan of Screamin Mimi's for years, and I still am in some aspects. After some internal debate I'm writing this review because the serving process and atmosphere have had a decline in recent years. I understand not everything can/should be the same as it was before, and while there may be some changes for the better I am disappointed with my recent visits.Starting with what I enjoy, the ice cream is delicious. I love that it's made in house with local ingredients, and it shows in the quality. The Mimi's mud is the best in my opinion, but the other flavors are also above par. The location is good and I'm happy that it's still a busy spot. My family is also glad the parking spots in front are available again. The employees are helpful and cheerful, and I have had zero issues with customer service. I'm giving 4 stars because I still recommend this spot to visitors and locals alike. If you're just in town and looking for a great ice cream place, you can stop reading here. The first thing I notice that I do not like is that the space to sit inside is very cramped compared to how it used to be. The whole dining room layout is overall kind of awkward, one of the corners is tighter than before because of the trash cans new home, and the two other tables are right next to the usually crowded line and waiting area. As for the ordering process, it is only one group ordering at a time as opposed to one group per employee. I know this is the norm at some ice cream places, but I always liked the way Mimi's did it. This also often leads to watching your ice cream slowly melt behind the counter while the other orders in your group are filled. Before, it was nice to be able to see the flavors and taste in front of the display (you can still taste the ice cream, it's just awkward in my opinion. They also have pictures of the current flavors on the wall). After inquiring we were also informed today that they no longer use reusable glasses for shakes and sundaes, which is a dissapointment after previously admiring Mimi's for being environmentally conscious (though they still have compostable cups and spoons). My main gripe is that the ice cream is no longer sold by the weight. I understand why they had to change their system in the beginning of the pandemic, but I don't understand why it can't be implemented again. To me and my friends/family, this is what set Mimi's apart. The flexibility of being able to get exactly how much you want for a fair price was unique, and satisfying to the stomach and wallet.Besides all that, there's just tiny, insignificant things I miss about the atmosphere. The pet contest, the world visitors map, the suggestion box, I could go on but I also can acknowledge things like this are not at the top of priorities and I'll accept that. As much as I enjoy this place, I felt the need to write this review in hopes that I can at least put my opinions out there that I know other regulars share.“

“Such a stunning winery to visit! First, the views are amazing, but it's a bit of a trek to get to the winery, but oh so worth it. They have several tasting locations, but typically many stop at their main tasting room deck. Again, you come for the views and wine! Tasting fees are reasonable and the wine is priced well. The quality of the wine is good, but I have had better in the area unfortunately. This is not a knock on them as competition is fierce in the area, but I'd give their portfolios a solid 3.5 out of 5 for quality. A favorite was their branded Pinot or Brut. As for their staff they have always been so wonderful, whether it be tastings or happy hours that they host during the warmer months. I would still recommend to others to give them a shot as it will not disappoint for many.“

Young & Yonder Spirits Distilleries • $$

“I was about to visit a different spirits place when our server at Matrix Winery said he liked and recommended Young & Yonder Spirits. I like recommendations from locals.I would pick 4 spirits for my tasting. The choices of absinthe and amaro intrigued me, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to taste them straight. I was lucky enough that there was just enough pour from the lime vodka so I chose lime vodka, gin, bourbon, and corn whiskey. The lime vodka was yummy and would be great for mixing drinks. I really liked the H.O.B.S. gin. It stands for Harbor of Broken Souls. Nice name, but with the juniper taste and ABV at 50%? This would be perfect for mixing since it’s a higher ABV. I was so curious how it would taste that I ordered an H.O.B.S. Gin and tonic for my wife. Yep, it tasted great. I’m a whiskey guy and I like bourbon. However, I actually preferred their corn whiskey. Perhaps because it’s 80% corn so it was extra sweet. The only complaint I had was that each pour was very little. It’s great that they use Glencairn glasses for tasting, but wish they had been more generous with their pours. As a home mixologist, I had a nice chat with the bartender about their gin, their local bitters. It’s the great conversation that takes the experience to another level. Buying a bottle would waive the tasting fee? Great. I got that H.O.B.S. gin that I really had my eyes (and taste buds) on! I would use 1 oz of their gin and another oz of Tanqueray to make a gin and tonic. Maybe next time I would come back and taste the absinthe.“

“This is our favorite winery! My husband loves their robust reds & I can't get enough of their whites & the Rosé, oh their Rosé, just divine. Their tasting room is cozy & inviting. The cheese pairing is a perfect compliment. It's also in walking distance to everything you'll want to do in Healdsburg. Right down the street from Willi's, I mean you can't beat that! We are a family of members, loyals. We love the staff they're the best, super knowledgeable about the wine and always make you feel welcomed! Go for the wine stay for the Deb“

“I want to go back and give this place another chance and hopefully improve my review, as we did enjoy our visit. However they forgot to bring our appetizer, our fries came out after we'd finished our burgers, the burgers were overcooked, and the service took a long time. Oh and ants kept walking across our table. We really liked the place, the food, and the staff though, so we'll come back and see if our experience was a fluke.“

COOKIE... take a bite! Pet Friendly • $$
430 Larkfield Center, Santa Rosa

“Tracy was responsive, professional and flexible in taking my order for 5 dozen of seven different cookies, yes, 420 cookies! Cookies included: chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter and chocolate crackles. She was knowledgeable and diligent in making sure all of the cookies were prepared, as requested, without milk products. She also emailed me the ingredient list for all of the cookies and sourced a diary free recipe for Lemon Madeline cookies. The cookies were all great and ready as arranged. She double wrapped the boxed to ensure freshness. We had a cookie table for my daughter's wedding and when I needed to pick up earlier than anticipated, on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, Tracy was so very nicely accommodating!I certainly recommend Cookie.... take a bite!“

“This was a nice surprise. The food was really good and worth the visit, prices are high for a burger place but the burger is so good you almost forget the price, especially if you add a yummy side dish. I had the fried asparagus, a little to salty (next time I would ask to hold the salt), but it was very tasty. My burger was very good! I will recommend this place.Btw, the waitress Michelle was very friendly.“

“What a great start to our vacation! Bri welcomed us with open arms and was hospitable, informative, and friendly. The grounds were beautiful and the wines, as well as the food pairings (Heidi's House Picks), were wonderful. We are not wine experts but we nonetheless felt valued and welcomed. We just hope we can make it back someday!“
