“This is an absolutely no frills restaurant with about 5 items on the menu, but they do them well. The monta (aka manti, mante) is the star of the show. Unlike other places that take a shortcut by using wonton skins, this place makes the dough from scratch and it really makes a difference. In addition to the baked monta, they also do a soup version in either tomato or yogurt. Their sou boereg ( Armenian cheese lasagna) is good also. All monta is cooked to order, so it does take a few minutes for your order to be ready, but it's totally worth the wait. Have an appetizer while waiting. You can also visit their sister restaurant in Pasadena, though it's tiny with only two tables on the sidewalk.P.S. I read some reviews saying that monta is supposed to be made with phyllo dough. Uh, no. I helped my mom and grandma make monta from scratch and they use the same dough you'll find here. And I was born in Lebanon, my grandmother was a Genocide survivor. “I contacted Misah regarding catering for my birthday party for 30 people. From the very start, Misah and his staff were polite, professional, and friendly. My wife took me to the restaurant for lunch to sample the food a couple of days before the party. Misah was very nice in person as well. The food was freshly prepared and very delicious. All the sides were good as well; the lentil soup, cucumber yogurt, and hummus. He offered us free desserts to sample. Their homemade baklava is so good. When they prepare your catering order, they cook the kabob close to your pickup time so that it is hot and fresh when you get home. They use very good quality containers for transporting the food. Our party guests loved the food so much that we barely had any leftovers for the next day. We will definitely eat at Chelo in the future. It is a small hidden gem in Van Nuys.“

I have had kabob so many times in my life, at some point you can't really tell if it's Persian, Lebanese, Armenian because the flavors are pretty similar. Here, there was no confusion or questions. The flavors of Armenian cuisine are very pronounced. I loved it. The beef shish was juicy, flavorful, cooked to perfection. It didn't have any beef smell or aftertaste. I have to be very careful where I eat and 99% of the time I have kabob taste in my mouth for hours. Not after eating here. Even left overs microwaved next day tasted great. The portions are perfect and so is the price. They even had home made lecho. (If you know, you know). Everything was perfect and I can go on and on. The tables are all 4-seaters but can be moved to accommodate larger parties - ours was a group of 6 and we didn't have to wait to be seated despite it being a somewhat busy Saturday morning. The wait staff was fast and not too chatty, which I liked, but they also didn't check on us at all so we did have to flag someone down whenever we needed refills. I would absolutely eat there again.Parking: The parking lot was full so we had to park on the street. There are multiple other businesses sharing the same parking lot, so that was a contributing factor.“

They quickly took my order for takeout and was told it would be about 20 mins. Food was ready by the time I came back and it smelled amazing. I got the mixed lule kebab plate and it had a beef and chicken lule over rice. Sides of salad, hummus, , pita bread, and veggies (separate in a bag). Flavor was on point, however the lule was slightly on the drier side but not terrible. For the price, it hit the spot. It was a huge portion and I ended up having a small portion of leftovers the next day. Not sure how it compares to other Mediterranean restaurants in the area, but it wasn't bad.“
