Long overdue review, last year it was my first time here, it was at 8 or 9 am in the morning. Super duper friendly folks first off. Very nice area outside of the cafe, as of course the painted ladies and the Alamo Square is right behind it. Superbly satisfying ripping the sandwich in half in my opinion. The atmosphere is very elegant, nothing too crazy, but tasteful, the menu is visible above the counter. Taking bus is very easy as there is just little steps to step inside. Would prefer the 22 Fillmore bus than the 21 Hayes bus as the 21 takes a long time to loop around, operating 3 buses daily. But you can walk if you have strong legs with these concrete hills. The taste is pretty amazing I must say, especially their iced coffee. Again, amazing people. Pricing is reasonable too in my opinion, though I get that some will criticize about it. If you're visiting San Francisco, please come on down here. You'll never be disappointed.

Loved the sandwiches at the cafe. Great place to pick up and enjoy at the park. I had the chicken pesto and loved it. Service was fast!

Store bought bagels, stale coffee roasts, nothing worth going out of your way yet nothing wrong with enjoying the convenience of standard cafe fare, but why not just stick to percolator coffee? Why offer drinks you can't make? Hot espresso insulated under thick froth is not a cappuccino, it's a sure way to burn yo mouth multiple times as you check to see if it's cool enough to drink

Gruff service instead of a warm welcome ; this cafe should be in a mall as its environment would fit its attitude. Coffee is adequate.

Cute neighborhood coffee shop. Free wifi. Bookshelf for reading inspiration. Ample tables and close to Alamo Square Park!

Cool vibe and quiet. Sandwich was a small/thin for $10 but tasted fine overall.

Great place to stop for a delicious sandwich and coffee if you’re visiting the painted ladies! My fiancé and I were visiting for an event and stayed nearby within walking distance. I got a salmon avocado sandwich on a whole wheat roll with a small cappuccino and my fiancé got a smoked turkey sandwich on French bread with a small iced black tea. Everything was great! The whole wheat roll was SO soft and all parts of my sandwich were seasoned, including the lettuce. I was pleasantly surprised and finished the whole sandwich. My fiancé also enjoyed his sandwich (finished it!) and his black tea was so good! My coffee was dark and foamed well, like a cappuccino should be.Service was great. There was only one gentleman working the shop and he was able to get ours and others’ orders out quickly. There are 6 small tables in the seating area, on either side of the front entrance and each space has access to an outlet with multiple plugs. Every table was clean and the space was well kept so we were able to choose any of the tables that weren’t already taken! Very much appreciated that. There was a medium flow of traffic on a Monday, late afternoon and a couple of people using the space with their lap tops when we were there. It was a chill space with a lively radio in the background, Drake, Lizzie, Taylor swift, etc. There’s local art work on the walls with pricing and a QR code for purchase too!I really liked this space and wish I lived nearby so that I could stop by more often! For now, I’d recommend to friends and family.TLDR: Unpretentious cafe with a chill vibe, delicious sandwiches, and lots of outlets.

The breakfast sandwiches were incredible and fairly priced. Cute local spot. We walked from here to the painted ladies and ate in the park.

I specifically walked to this cafe because their google page and website heavily advertised their gluten free friendliness. Before ordering I asked (just to be sure) that they had gluten free bread (as advertised in multiple spots on their website). The gentleman working the counter said no, they don’t have anything GF. I suggested to him that he really needs to update the website then because this was a huge inconvenience. He was adamant that it’s not on his website and told me I was wrong. I showed him his website since he seems to be unaware and he said “oh” with no apology. Not friendly and not at all as advertised!

Probably the worse service I've received while visiting San Francisco this far. The gentleman at the counter was super annoyed and rude and clearly didn't want my service. Only reason I got something was because it was my first time and wanted to try a sandwich and hit the park before leaving town. Tbh I don't even care how good my sandwich will be at this point. Won't come again but hopefully the food is a better experience then the service. I tip for those who provide quality customer service. He was far from that. And it baffles me that the register when you charge, the system asks if I want to leave a tip. With that kind of service? You should be ashamed to have it ask for a tip. I hope he wasn't the owner because he must really hate his business if that's the case

We stopped in to the Alamo Square Cafe before heading over to see the Painted Ladies on Friday. Every seat was filled, and for good reason! We had a short wait to order, but service was super friendly, and with only 2 people working, I thought it went quickly.I ordered the Pastrami on a Dutch crunch roll with provolone. This sandwich was HUGE and so so good!We also split a chocolate croissant that was as big as my face, and I also had a yummy matcha latte. This seems to be a pretty popular spot, and I absolutely recommend grabbing a sandwich and walking up to Alamo Park to enjoy it!Next time we're in San Francisco, I'm definitely coming back.
