I really loved the pizza here. "Detroit Style Pan Pizza" is similar to a Chicago style deep dish except the Detroit style has a crispier crust, almost like baked AND pan fried. I mean, the crust was good all by itself. But it was clear early on that the business management was weak. You would never know If they would be open or not, for one thing. I remember trying to order a pizza once and they told me they had run out of something... was it tomatoe sauce? Or dough? I can't remember exactly what it was, but I do recall thinking: "How could a pizzeria NOT have this?" The location was in the Inner Richmond neighborhood, which has few pizzerias and located near lots of USF students. Next to a popular bakery on one side and a very busy wings & beer joint on the other. Sidewalk tables on a tree lined street. Really, there is no excuse for failure... except that I imagine it was very hard to get delivery drivers recently. But all these places have that problem and most are figuring it out. Só, in sum, great pizza, nice folks, great location, but poor management. A better manager could make the place a big success.

The Chicago and Detroit pizzas here are actually I think the best in the neighborhood for pizza full stop. The sauce in the Detroit is is fresh and full of chopped veggies. The crust on the Chicago is fresh, rich, and has a nice cornmeal texture. And the toppings on both the Chicago and Detroit are great. Good for takeout or eating in the parklet outside. The beer list could be improved and I thought the California was meh.

The deep dish pizza here is pretty comparable to the other big hitters in SF. The crust is pretty similar to me. I order here when I don't want to wait an hour for delivery at the other places and to support a neighborhood joint. I prefer just calling and picking it up for the fastest service to ensure I can eat the pizza while it's still hot. I tried ordering the other night but no one answered the phone. I walked there to order in person but saw a "closed for biz" sign. I wasn't sure if it was just for the night, but I walked by again the next day and as the answered yelp question confirms, they are now closed for good :(

Best pizza and the prices are really way too cheap. They must be the only place that has not raised their prices. Staff was friendly and place is clean. I suggest that you call in and pick up the pizza because the delivery apps can't be trusted to get it there in time for dinner.

Don't listen to the reviews from Ahalya S. and Melanie K. One used to work for the business and the other is dating the owner. Theirs reviews aren't real. This place isn't worth the 3.5 stars it has now. Each visit I've had always left me disappointed. My pizza is either always undercooked or burnt. Delivery times sucks. I've always gotten a "sorry, not sorry" kind of attitude from the staff. I've stopped wasting money here. Maybe you should too.

BIG SLICES! Really nice experience here tonight. I was surprised by the price after ordering, and was thinking about getting a whole pizza instead of just two slices. I decided not to give the server there a hard time with modifying the order, and left to wait for it to be ready. When I came back the guy there gave me an extra slice. Half a pizza! I think maybe he overheard what I said about not wanting to give him a hard time, or maybe he was just being kind, but either way this inspired me to download this app and give a good review!

Wow so much garlic and so yummy. Definitely worth the wait, would recommend ordering over the phone and picking up if you can, can't trust the delivery times on the apps. Pesto tastes homemade and the ingredients are always so fresh.

Generous toppings on pizzas and salads! Simple outdoor seating, friendly staff, I like having Grinders in the neighborhood

Best pizza we’ve ever had, hands down. Both the deep dish and the Detroit were incredible!! Sauce was so saucy and delicious, tons of toppings on both pizza and salad. Crusts were perfection. Only regret not coming here sooner!

Taste like a hot circle of garbage. It’s really hard to make pizza test so bad and cut it in squares…

It's nice to have a shop in the Richmond that does both Chicago & Detroit style pies. Tonight my Dinner had been a Detroit style BBQ Chicken with Ranch on the side. Parking during off hour is not horrible, but this block gets very busy with Cinderella Bakery & Cafe next door. As for seating it's very limited outside, but Golden Gate Park is just 2 blocks South along 6th Avenue making it a great option on a nice day if you want to eat outside. Regarding my meal that I took home, the service was pleasant, and prompt. Btw it's important to note Detroit pies do not take as long as Chicago to prep & cook so add some time for the later. The pie was ample, the chicken a little dry which happens on pizza, and overall it was a bit sweet because of the BBQ sauce. Dinner was okay though because of the addition of the Ranch dressing that added needed moisture for the chicken, and helped counter the sweetness of the BBQ sauce. Overall a nice meal.

to put this 1 star in context, my wife likes all types of pizzas. she loves costco, dominoes, and the better pizzas such as gaspare's. as long as it tastes good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, she'll love it. we ordered a 10" pizza today. nothing fancy, just had spinach, mushrooms, and pepperoni. the crust looked pre-made and was undercooked. it was basically a soggy flat bread. when we got it, the pizza wasn't even completely heated, just warm. all the toppings also just fell off the undercooked flat bread / crust like it was slapped on top and microwaved for 1 minute. this was the first and only pizza that my wife didn't like. in fact, she cried about how bad it was for costing $21. actual tears streamed from her face. I wanted to try to chicago deep dish here in the future, but i don't have faith and won't be coming back.

Always love ordering from this place. Pizza is absolutely delicious

$30 something for barely any sausage, scarce mushrooms, barely a centimeter sauce, where is the cheese, five centimeters of crust wall with no toppings/ sauce on it. Not deep dish

We ordered takeout from Grinders Pizzeria. Really a positive experience. We called ahead, and the pizza was just about ready by the time we arrived. We ordered a Detroit crust. It was cheesy (but not too much) and the sauce and toppings were delicious. This was really excellent pizza. Now, I'm curious to try their deep dish and thin crust. This little neighborhood spot is surrounded by other tempting treats: Cinderella bakery next door, and a beer and chicken wing bar next door. This block of Balboa definitely has a lot to offer.
