“I have dined at a fair number of sushi restaurants in America as well as some of the finest in Tokyo. Kuma distinguishes itself by having served me the best Chirashi Bowl (I had the Chirashi Deluxe), that I have had in my life. What made the bowl better than some good ones I’ve had was not only the excellent fish on top… but the thoughtfully composed bottom of purple rice with tasty nuggets of egg, soybeans, pickled cucumber, braised tofu, sliced lemon, and tobiko. It was SO GOOD. So if you love Chirashi, or just love thoughtfully prepared sushi, this is THE PLACE!“

The caliber of sushi they serve competes with higher end places for a more reasonable price point with a super comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Love the local tofu, omakase nigiri tasting, Kuma roll, and any carafe of sake they recommend. Ryo and his team really puts in their best effort in all the food and service for customers. “I had dinner at Nakama with a girlfriend last weekend, and it was such a great experience. The food was delicious! We ordered a few rolls and some sake, and everything really hit the spot.

The restaurant was packed, so I definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. I’ve been here a few times during the pandemic when it was much quieter, so it was really nice to see the place busy and thriving again“

We got the top secret and hamachi carpaccio which I would definitely get again, then for main dish we ordered curry rice (little bit of spice, nice crispy pork) and mentaiko yaki udon (flavorful, not too heavy noodles were perfectly cooked) which were good but would want to try other items that also looked good on the menu. There was enough variety to incentivize you to try the different options, but not so much that you would get overwhelmed. We went during happy hour and were very pleased with the experience. The restaurant is not very big, but it was not busy during our visit.“

“The food was nice. Very tasty. I like when there is a sampler platter on sushi menus so you can let the chef pick. They had 6 of these and a sushi bowl. I went with combo A. I was pleased with the choice. They have the Kurosawa Kimoto sake here. I love thise stuff. I get the 300ml. I'd get the 720, but the fiance would probably be critical of that decision.“

“This was our favorite sushi so far in the city. The big lovers boat was really delicious, affordable and the fish was fresh and melted in your mouth. We also got a roll with some eel and tuna and one with lemon salmon cucumber and avocado. My one note for the lemon roll is i would prefer the lemon sliced more thinly as to not overwhelm the roll as much.

A highlight was trying monkfish liver for the first time. Im attaching a picture of a monkfish, they look crazy haha. The liver was delightfully presented - layered and but into perfect circles - and tasted rich and fishy. I didn’t like it at first but by halfway through began to enjoy the flavor. I think any taste can be an acquired taste if you try something. Id get it again“

“We just moved into the neighborhood and have been trying out new local restaurants — and wow, we’re so glad we found this place! This was our second time coming in, and it honestly reminded us why we couldn’t wait to come back.
The food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. You can taste the difference — they even use real crab, which is one of the many reasons we love it here. Everything we’ve tried so far has been delicious and perfectly cooked.

“Needed a quick but healthy dinner after a long day of travel. We opted for sushi and Sushi Toni was well rated and right around the corner. Turned out to be a low key place with friendly service and good non-fancy sushi. Tried the Saba and Hamachi nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, one of the baked sushi options and salads & miso soup. All were good!“

“Lion West Portal was an amazing experience! The atmosphere is cozy and the staff helpful. The star of the show is an entire dedicated page of the menu for vegan sushi with a 90min AYCE option. “The food here was definitely the highlight. Everything tasted pretty fresh and flavorful, and overall I would rate the food about 4/5. The ingredients seemed good quality and the dishes were enjoyable.

However, the service was a bit disappointing. The staff did their job, but they didn’t feel very welcoming or friendly. There wasn’t much interaction beyond the basics, and with the price point here, I expected a more warm and attentive experience.

The atmosphere was also just okay. It wasn’t fancy or fine dining, but it also didn’t really give a strong Japanese vibe either. The environment felt a bit mixed and not very memorable.

Overall, I’m giving 4 stars mainly because the food was good. If I rated the experience as a whole (food + service + atmosphere), it would probably be closer to 3/5. Still worth trying if you care mostly about the food.“

“The best sushi I have had, comparable to the best in Tokyo. The rainbow is my favorite. Lion king partcularly rich in taste. Salmon skin salad has some salmon meat, too. Softshell crab was crunchy and good. Golden gate and others are excellent, too.“

“I know this place for a many years. My family loves to come here for dinner. Their sashimi are good. My son doesn't eat sashimi, but he loves seafood. They have different types of fishes dish plates that he looks forward to whenever we come over from Livermore.

“I’ve been on the lookout for a “weekly family dinner” sushi restaurant for over a year, and I finally found it tonight in Little Sushi Bar! The 10-piece omakase was perfection: the right amount of (excellent) rice with delightful garnishes. The miso black cod was perfectly cooked. The chicken karaage was meaty - no fat! - with perfectly seasoned, light breading. We got a few other dishes, too, and everything was great. Will order again and again and again!“

“My girlfriend and I recently tried this sushi spot near us, and we’re honestly so glad we did. It was pretty quiet when we went, but don’t let that fool you—the food and service were both amazing.

We started with the hamachi carpaccio, pork belly skewers, and spicy tuna tacos. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, but the pork belly skewers were especially a standout—so good.

For our rolls, we got two spicy tuna rolls, a spicy salmon roll, and a dragon roll. All of them were delicious, well-made, and super satisfying.

To top it off, the staff surprised us with a complimentary dessert at the end (it looked like a rose and had a green tea/matcha flavor). Such a thoughtful touch and a perfect way to end the meal.

Service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The location is super convenient, and parking was easy, which is always a plus.

Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be coming back regularly. Highly recommend giving this place a try!“
