“I had heard about this hot restaurant from New York that I must try, but was reticent to do so because Carbone was the name of a character from Goodfellas that Robert Deniro's Jimmy Conway whacked when tying up loose ends after the Lufthansa job! Poor sap was hanging frozen in a meat locker. I'm glad I put that imagery aside because this place was amazing! Platitudes like wonderful ambience, fine service, flavorful food, great family style dining, are all applicable but just don't capture the full spirit of the evening. From the pickled cauliflower, to the signature spicy rigatoni ala vodka (which pairs nicely with their pinot noir offering Presqu'ile), to the Caesar salad (you must have those croutons!), and their delicious Italian petit-fours, everything burst with flavor and was resplendent of the authenticity of old Venice. And since you will be spending more than a few pennies here, one must luxuriate in the mid century environs replete with Murano glass chandeliers while being serenaded with a sound track of Italian crooners like Mel Torme and Frank Sinatra in the full bela canta tradition. If you have a special occasion, Carbones Miami Beach will make for a memorable evening.”

“Faux-makase! (Fake omakase) is exactly what it is. Self proclaimed “non traditional omakase.” Also know as slow-makase. Nossa deserves a noose-a. I was recommended this restaurant by my hotel concierge. Had a horrible experience here. Should have known since they require pre-payment online via tock which actually codes as professional services and not a restaurant so they avoid the credit card fees. By the way, they will ask you to pay a ridiculous and mandatory 20% service charge plus tax after your “meal.” After payment, you will receive an email which says “The day of your reservation you will receive an email with instructions to access to the speakeasy bar.” However, I never received any email. I put nossa into google and it took me to the filthy, run down Hyatt centric hotel. I went inside and asked where the restaurant was and they took me through a stinky alley next to the hotel trash room said to knock the door. This made me extremely uncomfortable and almost decided to just leave. Little did I know the horror I was about to experience. I knocked the door and a lady asked for the password so I gave my last name on the reservation. She didn’t open and kept asking for a password. I demanded she open the door and gave my last name on the reservation. She said I should have received instructions on a paper from another restaurant on the other side of the street which I was not informed of. She said I was late and that they already started so she showed me to my seat. The room felt like a sewer with too many people crammed around a dirty scratched up bar. I was in group 11 which means there were at least 20 guests there. The music was horrendous and unbearable. The ambiance was very creepy. The staff smelled really bad. I was offered a welcome drink which I opted for a sparking water which was not sparking at all as it was flat without bubbles so they brought me a bottle instead. They didn’t ask about any allergies and handed me the first course which I had to spit out because it contained alcohol which I don’t drink. The chef kept inaudibly shouting out the descriptions of the dishes for each course towards different corners of the room in an attempt for everyone to hear but you only hear and understand the words which were said in your direction. All the ingredients were old and not fresh. The food did not taste good. The portions were tiny so don’t think you’ll be full when you leave here by any means. The place is extremely unsanitary. The chef even wipes your plates using the same towel as the previous groups one after another. I was absolutely disgusted. Finally the last course came and again I was served alcohol without being told what it was. Luckily the chef caught it before I could drink it and replaced it with iced tea. I asked if we’re were finished and she said yes. The experience was a complete waste of time so we were happy to walk out and leave. The lady chased us on our way out and said there was an additional payment to be made for gratuity and tax. I asked if this was mandatory and she answered yes. Mind you this was never communicated before. She also said she didn’t have a wireless credit card machine so I gave her my physical card to go swipe and come back. The chef came out, handed me my receipt and credit card then asked: “Is there a reason why you’re unhappy.” I answered: Yes, I didn’t enjoy the experience. He shrugged his shoulders and replied: “I’m sorry but unfortunately not everybody does, I guess” I was shocked and just stormed out. Exit left next to the trash room, literally.”

Our waitress Elena came back and said they didn’t have any crepes or French toast. Asked for what I’d like instead, so I ordered a strawberry biscuit, and she told Mike she could see if they could do his French toast on regular bread. Took quite a while but eventually got our meals. Food was good and the waitress was great despite the problems that were beyond her control. We will go back again!”

I really hope they keep it like this for many more years 🙏there aren’t many places in Miami that are this well-kept, so I really appreciate that they’ve preserved it so nicely. Candidly, I am not a big drinker or scene guy, so my feedback is based mostly on how we were treated and the vibes. The NYC lounge was filling quickly on a busy Thursday, but we decided to wing it without a reservation. A friendly server told us we could sit on the central couches, which we gladly accepted. Shortly thereafter, the manager, Daniele Balsano, approached us calmly and apologetically, regretting that the server was unaware of a previous reservation. In short order, he separated a four-top along the street-facing windows to be sure we had a place to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. No belittling or sense of entitlement, just prompt, polite, and professional hospitality that manifested results versus excuses. Daniele was attentive throughout with his charming accent, dapper appearance, and warm demeanor. Furthermore, Daniele stopped us on the way out to personally apologize for the seating mishap, and even gave us his business card with his personal phone number, insisting that we reach out next time we wanted to visit. I cannot speak to the libations, but we ended up befriending the couple next to us and had a wonderful conversation. I can speak to the tasty snack trio they bring for all guests, which is a nice tip of the old New York hat to Bemelmans across the street. So, all things considered, while the aesthetic and prices are on par for similar places, the value is readily apparent because you feel welcomed and appreciated by way of the top-notch service. Dinner was amazing, the cocktails were even better, and the service made the night feel effortless. It’s one of those spots where you don’t have to overthink anything. “Disappointing Experience at a Once-Elegant Venue” I used to come here often for private events and lunches — my last visit was about 10 years ago, when the place still felt worthy of the Versace name: unique, elegant, stylish. Sadly, my recent visit ruined all those good memories. Despite sending out emails about the expected dress code, almost no one seems to care. Some guests were literally jumping into the pool in their street clothes, then sitting back down at their table soaking wet — as if that's normal in a supposedly high-standard restaurant. It's simply unworthy of a major fashion icon's name. The only redeeming part was the staff: they were extremely kind and attentive, and it was clear how much they appreciated finally having guests who were properly dressed. I honestly felt sorry for them, having to witness this circus on a daily basis. The food itself was delicious, and the lunch menu is good value for money — but unfortunately, that's not enough anymore. It's sad to see how a once-exclusive place can fall so low.”

Perfectly prepared pasta - one in a simple light sauce and the other clams (our daughter almost licked the plate clean!), and all followed with wonderful Tiramisu. The entire experience was even better when we interacted with the super warm and friendly Hostess, Manager (Anstasia?), waiter Roberto along with his associates! “For the price, you cannot compare to the effect and the service you will be provided. Think about a Barton G’s with a beautiful atmosphere. If you want a nice private ambience to hang out with your significant other or a friend to just have a nice conversation with some nice background music. The staff is all smiles and I can’t say 100% for all the flavors provided here but overall a great experience.
They spent the money on the hotel and you can see it here at this bar. And nowhere in Miami are you gonna get an $18 drink that takes six minutes to make. Most places for that price are going to give you a premixed drink with low quality alcohol…”
