“Today was my first time, I ordered a Jerk chicken meal, since I moved to Florida I have tasted so many Jerk chicken, this is the first place who knows and kept their Jamaican recipe, it was finger delicious ( might no be a word) but that how I describe it, well marinated with the jerk spice, even they gave me the extra jerk sauce, I didn’t even need it, that’s well made the dish was, so I gave the chef a 5 ⭐️, so anyone who want a great Jerk chicken should go there, even all of us might have our taste (spicy or none spicy) I believe you will like and don’t forget you need either water or one Jamaican ginger beer to cool it down. I will go back to taste the other dish on the menu, will keep you posted! Enjoy!“
“Update: A year later and I still consistently take out from here. Their food is very authentic like my Jamaican farmer food. They are also now serving natural juices my favsAre The peanut punch, lemonade and pineapple ginger. Friendly owners and staff. This is actually my go to, I’m here at daily or every other day... The food has been great very authentic. If your looking for AUTHENTIC JAMAICAN food this is a hidden gem. My favorites are their brown stew and their oxtail. I don’t care for their curry. Never really had an issue except this last week I went the rice was under cooked assuming I went to early or chef changed, but still unacceptable. I didn’t make it an issue no place is perfect. But I highly recommend giving them a try.“
“This place is busy but the patties are delicious and the best I've found so far in Broward. The ackee patties are what I go for and not sure if you can find them any place else. The cheesy beef patties are to die for. If you want authentic delicious Jamaican patties, this is your place.“
“I've always passed on going to this restaurant because the line is ridiculously long.. But now I understand why! The food is really good, and the prices/portions are even better. I would recommend ordering ahead (if possible) or going during a less busy time. Ask for the $5.99 meal!“
“The service is freaking incredible and the food is out of this world. Most jamacian restaurants are drab and depressing with employees who are angry and aloof. Not this place. The service was engaging, friendly and accommodating. The food was even better. We ordered the oxtail x2, the goat, fried chicken, curry chicken and brown stew. All were muuuuuuuccccchhhh better than the usual S. FLORIDA suspects. Well worth the hour drive. BTW- get her homemade drinks. They are so great.“
“Everyone enjoyed the meal but me. I was looking forward to this lentil soup but it was too spicy to enjoy. The delivery was more than an hour late and it didn’t help with the atmosphere at the table, everyone was hungry and gobbled down the food. It was very expensive and overpriced , not suitable for group parties.“
“My experience has been excellent in this place. I came one day with my mother and we tried one of their coffees, and the person who served us (Valentina) gave us good service, she is very attentive and was very kind to us. The truth is one of the best people to serve that restaurant.“
“My old coworkers always raved about this place so 15 years later I finally got a chance to visit. We were a party of 6 on Presidents' Day for lunch. The place is located in a strip mall facing Cypress Road. It's on the smallish side. The hostess had us wait about 15 minutes while our table was prepared. There are some chairs out front for this purpose. My daughter and I split the fish and chips. My dad ordered the fish roti. Judging by his longing gaze at my fish and chips, I quickly traded with him. The fish was bland but the roti with the curry base and bits of soft potatoes was very filling and tasty! My teenage son ordered the cheese burger and fries and wolfed it down with a root beer. There is a bar with a variety of domestic and imported draft beers on tap. My mom ordered a pint of Bud Light but it was too much for her to finish. The highlight of the menu (IMHO) is the homemade desserts. We all split a caramel cheesecake, a flan and a double coconut pie. Delicious! Our server was a college-age young man who is service oriented and friendly. Two thumbs up! BUT... If you are in a hurry to get a quick bite to eat this is definitely not the place. We were seated for 2 hours. If you have the time and the money, Calypso is an authentic old Florida establishment that is well worth the visit.“
“I felt transported to Trinidad from the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant. I happened to visit on a very crowded Saturday afternoon and was in a rush, so I couldn’t wait for the kitchen to make roti, but I had the chance to try the doubles. These were perfectly made and come two to an order. Thankfully, I was splitting the meal because one double is plenty. I opted for everything on top and slight pepper - that came out perfectly. For an entree, I shared the curry goat and rice (the kitchen was out of roti at the time) with dal. The curry goat was piping hot, tender, and seasoned well. We happened to nab a table just as some folks were leaving. It was so nice to see a wide variety of people at the restaurant. I am already looking forward to my next visit!“
