“I can’t compliment the staff at The Stag enough. We hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner on Thursday night and they executed to perfection. Avalon was a great host and the upstairs event room was beautifully elegant and perfect for our bride and groom. The food was great and selection of drinks were perfect for everyone. Avalon kept me up to date with where the open bar tab was at throughout the event which I greatly appreciated as we had a budget and she ended it below the spot I asked her to. Thank you all for a great event for such a special occasion!”

However, we were disappointed that we had to wait about 15 minutes before our server ever came over to get our drink order. Could have been new and training, willing to give the benefit of the doubt. There are literally no decent restaurants in Gainesville in spite of the fact that it’s a rather large city and has two major college campuses so this is a welcomed addition. “Went here for breakfast a few weeks ago. The atmosphere was pretty chill for a late morning. Ordered plate of biscuits and gravy with red hot sausage and an orange juice. The gravy was smooth and warm with the red hot giving a good amount of spice. Very curious to see what else was offered, I returned a few days later to get a burger to go as is advertised on their sign up front. The burger was surprisingly juicy and delicious. What even more surprising was learning that Mama Ruth’s has been around since 1975! With a diverse menu and friendly customer service, I can see why it has continued to thrive.”

If you're in the Oakwood area and craving some Birria Tacos, TIO LOCO is worth a visit! This nice little spot is tucked off to the side of the BP gas station on Hwy 53 (beside the COOKOUT), right off 985. The address might say Gainesville, but for me, this is Oakwood.

The Birria Tacos here are solid—juicy, flavorful, and sure to satisfy your taco cravings. They of course have your other menu items that you may want to check out, but I've been on a birria kick for a while now ? It's definitely a spot to check out if you’re nearby!

“I live in Flowery Branch but recently took over Auto Fitness in Gainesville and I have been looking for a place just like Sweet Magnolia's. When my daughter visited me for lunch I thought we would try it out and I am so glad that we did. The minute we walked in I thought the place looked great and felt so clean. Made it to the counter and was told that it was family owned an everything was made fresh. We were made aware of the specials, the bread and the soup of the day. I am a Rueben sandwich nut and it's so hard to find a really good, authentic one and they nailed it. Fresh corned beef the right amount of sauerkraut and the thousand island was perfect. My daughter got the Cuban and it was also made to perfection. I understand the importance of word of mouth and reviews and if you haven't been to Sweet Magnolia's you've got to visit, you won't be disappointed. Now that I have found them, it will be my go to when I am craving something healthy (great salad menu) or just a fresh sandwich. Oh, the potato salad was so fresh and great as well. Thanks to this great place for changing the way I will be experiencing lunch, I'll be bringing members of my team here weekly as a reward for their work. Looking forward to coming back. Tim Bunch, Bobby Joe Peck, Clemente’, and Sandy Stone have collaborated literally decades of food service experience to create a delightful hacienda for hungry Epicurians. However, it is hard to beat their hot breakfast pancakes, powder sugar dusted French toast, cheddar scrambled eggs, home fries with onions, country-fried steak with scrumptious brown gravy, french fries, fried grouper filets, delicious tiny green lima beans, fresh-brewed sweet iced tea, generous fresh-cut lemon wedges, tasty spaghetti with meat sauce, complimentary jalapeño and lime juice marinated cucumbers, juicy fried chicken legs, crisp corn muffins, home baked brownies, and the hard to find 18-item deluxe salad bar. Those crunchy croutons really rock! The refreshing bite-sized cut-up fruit dishes are an additional favorite, as well as a healthy dessert choice. The only entree I don’t personally care for is the fried salmon patties. ( In my culinary opinion. they need more chopped onions and lemon juice in the mix to cut the fishy flavor.) However, many diners relish them topped with white gravy. I just cannot say enough good comments about this fine eatery and the quality individuals who frequent here. Come sample their cafeteria-style offerings. Many local people frequent this hot spot daily with good reason. Their food is great. You will not be disappointed.”

“We got there right as the place opened for dinner and were politely greeted. We were seated in a corner booth that was intimate and in a nice little spot for a date, but the table had chunks taken out of it. It was a bit off putting for me not to be able to look around too, but I’m sure if I’d asked they’d have moved us. The table being messed up wasn’t a great impression, though. We were given ice water.
We ordered the Spring Roll & Tom Kha bowl as appetizers. The spring rolls came in a set of 2 & were the same basic generic spring rolls you’d get at many other restaurants- they were quite good. The soup was tasty and made me feel warm & toasty inside.

Masaman Curry is my favorite Thai dish and I try it everywhere I go to eat this kind of food. This one was a winner- the sauce was thicker than I’ve ever had it anywhere. This dish came with a first on the side for me (avocado) and the coconut milk base curry was sweet and mild with a hint of peanut flavor. In it was mixed potatoes, carrot and cashew nuts; I opted for tofu as well. My only regret is that I wish there had been more. It came with a heaping side of rice.
We got the Spicy Basil mild, and the stir fry came our tasting of a grill, mixed with onions, basil leaves, bamboo and sautéed mixed vegetables. I didn’t realize it wouldn’t have any kind of sauce. I asked about it and they advised it comes dry. I hinted at wanting some sort of sauce on the side to my date but he said we have sauce at home and so this dish is waiting in the fridge to be doctored up and eaten (we were full after sharing the other things).

There was Halloween candy at the front of the store. They charged a card fee, which I wish they’d told me about in advance. I didn’t use the restroom there so I can’t attest to that. The service was adequate and they were very nice, but nothing wowed me. The table being all chunked up was kind of yuck too.

Either way I would definitely eat there again- there’s not really any other options for Thai in Gainesville except one other spot with hours I never seem to make. Also the Masaman was really great. I spent a little over $40 which is decent. It was a truly okay experience.

“Please brush up on your Spanish before your visit. Thank God I had a friend with me that spoke Spanish. This is authentic Mexican food so be patient. It is prepared fresh. The menu is on a big chalkboard. I told my friend there was no use in trying to translate just order for me. He ordered the Gorditos for me. I also had the cucumber lime water. It is very refreshing. I must admit the green gordito was spicy. I drank a lot of my cucumber lime water to put out the flames. The red gordito was mild. I really enjoyed the food.

If you’ve never been to a Waffle House, don’t expect it to be super clean, because they are open 24 hours. What really struck me, though, is the friendly greeting, they take your NAME for your order, not a number!..asked everybody ordering how their day was going and how they were, and when everybody leaves, told everybody thank you and have a great rest of your day..that is SOOO rare these days...usually a short, insincere greeting and rarely a thank you nowadays at most places..this place is a breath of fresh air! Will be back..BTW, I remember Yonah Burger as a kid back in the '70's..and I know it has survived at least one fire, and has been grazed by a tornado during those many years..I hope it continues for many more!”
