“I had very high hopes for this place.A few weeks ago, I stopped by for the first time and got beef curry and gyoza to go. It was spectacular! Decided to go for the ramen next visit. And I did.I wanted to get the thickest, most robust flavored soup, so I got the "Special" tonkotsu black garlic ramen.I really liked the visual presentation. Very vibrant, neat and appetizing. As with most ramen takeouts, the soup and noodles were packaged in separate containers. Before pouring the soup into the ramen bowl, I took a little sip.It was a tad disappointing, as I had such high hopes for this shop. The soup was a bit on the bland side. I guess the fried garlic chips are supposed to carry the flavor but there's nothing else. What I did notice was a slight slimy texture and a hint of odor. This probably indicates that inferior pork bones were used to draw the soup stock. For those of you who don't know how tonkotsu soup is made, ignorance is bliss. If you knew exactly what's in it, you may be traumatized! So, I'll spare you the details. What I will say is that hours of boiling the pork bones is needed to extract the umami, but other ingredients are crucial too. Grated ginger, garlic cloves, salt and pepper are some of the common items that are used. Despite the shortcomings of the tonkotsu soup, I have high hopes that Rakumen could be a top contender in the ramen world if they tweaked their soup just a little bit. Use better quality pork bones would be one. Adding a bit more flavor would be the other. *I had some leftover soup, so I added a little grated ginger and garlic with a few drops of la-yu to it and already, it was about as good as the other ramen shops in town. I give them 4 stars despite the seemingly harsh critique of their tonkotsu, because of their prompt and courteous service. But most of all, I believe that they will only get better.Looking forward to visiting again to up them to 5 stars!“
“A very nice surprise when my daughter took me here today. The hot sour soup was excellent and the only thing I didn't like was that the noodles were super slippery and hard to grasp with the chopsticks. But the flavors were spot on and the fried calamari appetizer was Ono. No sauce needed for the calamari. The pancake (soufflé) strawberry dessert was also delish and don't forget the ice cream with the dessert. My daughter forgot to order the vanilla scoop for $2. This place is a must try if you're in Pearlridge.“
“The restaurant is run by a Southeast Asian business, and you choose your own ingredients, weigh them, go to the cashier, order your preferred soup, noodles, and size, and pay based on the weight of the ingredients.Children love this shop because they serve Taiwanese-style shaved ice ? after the meal.Parking: Since it is a restaurant area with many restaurants, there are many shared parking lots.“
“Stopped by here after seeing many of my Yelp friends checking in since I was in the area. Had a bit of trouble finding this place & had to ask a kind woman waiting outside of Safeway. It is located closer to Subway. I had many errands to run so only purchased roast pork today. I was sad that there was only a small piece of pork hanging in the window after the gentleman in front of me bought most of it. Not to fret, the counter person disappeared to bring out more. I wanted to make a knock off lechon kawali for an easy dinner as I had some very juicy vine ripened tomatoes and sweet onions. I generally do not eat roast pork because it is very fatty, but saw the pieces were very meaty. Dinner came out great served with some French Onion Soup. Cringe worthy, but I enjoyed my pieces of defatted pork with some balsamic vinegar since I didn't have any of the traditional Filipino vinegar. Btw, Po Sing does not sell any manapua or steamed buns. Although there was only a rubber duck hanging, the gentleman said he did have roast duck in the back. Only one customer is allowed in the restaurant at a time & there is no dining area...strictly take out. Lots of parking available in the Mililani Shopping Center parking lot.“
“Everything is delicious! Not only delicious, but affordable. May this small little gem of a restaurant always prosper may the hands that prepare these delicious meals have many more years of service to come. I'm not one to take time out to write reviews, but Garden Island Cafe deserves it. Thank you.“
“This place is amazing if your avid ramen lover. The food here is great especially their broth. The service there was great and the lady that served us was very kind. Also the place itself was very clean and pleasant. Would definitely go back with more people.“
“No frills, take out Chinese/local food located up in Palisades in a tiny shopping mall/gas station. Always come here when visiting friends closeby. Reasonably priced and you get your moneys worth. Havent had a bad dish here yet. The chicken katsu curry here is winnahs?“
“I've been trying to come here for months since seeing they were voted the #1 Roast Duck Shop on O'ahu. They didn't disappoint! Their roast duck was succulent, juicy, and perfectly flavored. I also got the roast pork ends and it was good but I'm going to try it again when it's nice and hot - I know it will be great. The char siu was awesome. It was moist and flavorful, not hard nor dry. Looking forward to it all again.“
“Quintessential Chinese-American food, full of refined starch, cooking oil and artificial colouring. People seem to love it! Granted, some of the dishes, like the Pekin duck, really were delicious.Service, no matter my food preferences, was excellent. Friendly, casual atmosphere that’s great for large parties or family meals. Also, it’s cold in here, so bring a jacket.“
“I ordered thru UberEats as this was my 1st time ordering from this place. I ordered the Crispy Gau Gee (6 pc), Mini plate Chicken Katsu, Mini plate Teriyaki Beef, and the Fried Noodles (Spam and Fishcake). The food was really delicious, and the portions were worth the value. I definitely recommend anyone wanting some local food, order from here.“
“My family and I eat here AT LEAST once very 3 weeks to a month. Food is awesome; staff is friendly/ owner is the BEST; service is great!!! This is also the place I take my relatives, friends and co-workers… not to mention, my potluck dish go-to place!! Love it there and call me a “regular” at Kunia Chinese “
“Great food and friendly service. Don't let the location or the outside appearance scare you off, this is an excellent place for a quick and cheap meal. We fed an adult and 2 kids for breakfast for $14 total. Can't beat that anywhere in Hawaii. We'll be back.“
“I have tried every Chinese restaurant in waianae and hui on its by far my favorite. They have reasonable prices, huge portions, and great customer service. I had ordered 2lbs of roast pork and it was so dry and burnt that is was unedible. I then called and told the people working there what happened and they replaced it for me and made it right. I never had any more problems here. Only the one and they rectified it with no questions asked. They have great customer service. Bottom line is I highly recommend hui on for your Chinese fix. Such great food and customer service.Parking: This restaurant sits inside of waianae mall so there are a whole lot of parking stalls available including handicap parking stalls.“
“An auntie neighbor took us here, she's known the owners for decades and we went out of our way that day to order a fried rice dish here (took them 10 min to make it fresh maybe less). Their fried rice is soon legit. Perfectly salty, full of shrimp, eggs, peas, etc. And best of all, not greasy at all! This was similar to home cooked fried rice which is soo different from restaurant greasy. I'm from SF area and grew up going to Chinatown. Fried rice is a staple but a lot of to go places will make it overly greasy, poor quality rice and hardly any mix in ingredients. It's a dish that will tell you if the place is legit. This place has fantastic! Can't wait to try more. Also the owners are so sweet! Really great hardworking family. We can't wait to go again.“
“This is a takeout place so the restaurant is nothing special but what it lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in food and value. The family and I went for dinner, grabbed takeout to head to the beach and watch the sunset. Portions are huge. You can easily get 2 meals out of this if you wanted (but we didn't because we like to eat). We got the thicker noodles which were garlic-y and delicious. The sweet and sour spare ribs are fall off the bone without being too sweet. Loved them. The pork is also very tender and delicious. orange chicken was probably our least favorite. Tender and fresh but not very strong in the orange department. The chicken katsu is ok, I'd skip it and get the pork. Beef with broccoli was also delicious. Great food as a whole!“
“They have a great variety of flavors for savory and sweet manapua! I tried them fried and my top favorites were: spinach mozzarella, honey garlic chicken, sweet potato, and Oreo. The owner is so friendly and we would love to come back again to try other items there!“
