“Where do I start? I came across this place on instagram. I was shocked, that I had been missing out. I didn't go right away. So, I decided to go one Friday and the service was awesome. Both bartenders, were very nice and attentive. The ambiance, was chill. Some people, were standing having their wine immersed in conversation. I took a seat, at the bar since I was alone. I cannot remember, the drinks I had. But, I enjoyed both! I visited again, the following Friday LOL! This time, a little earlier. I sat at the bar again, this time I went for the special "froze rose" with a shot of gin. Extremely good drink! So I had two lol Many thanks, to that bartender! Clientele is very diverse in many ways which makes for a good crowd and people watching. Beer prices are great and I even saw some high end spirits available. Bartenders were attentive too.“

I got the pistachio covered lamb rack when I last went, and it was phenomenal. The dish held up well, the lamb was moist, and the sauces complimented the lamb perfectly. I also had the mango cheesecake, and I can still remember how perfect the cheesecake was. It was a perfect amount of cheesecake flavor to mango flavor. I would highly highly recommend this restaurant as I have yet to see a better one in the surrounding area.“

“This place was AMAZING!!! The waitresses and waiters were extremely polite and helpful with anything you requested or asked. The Food was DELICIOUS!! I would highly recommend eating there and tasting their amazing Calamari and seafood soup!! Actually it may not have been soup but the juice of the meal which was Mussels with some vegetables in this phenomenal juices. They simply are creators of amazing flavors and Definitely worth the value of their meals. ?“
“Discovered this place while biking to catch the BNSF back to Chicago. Usually would bike past to hop on the train at Western Springs or LaGrange Road. But one day I stopped short and popped in here. Really impressed by the selection of beer, wine, and whiskey. Before the Derby, they had three different bottles of Blanton's Bourbon. I asked for a smell (it's not Jimmy John's, I know) and they obliged me without so much as a blink of the eye. Quite an impressive wine selection. They are serious about their libations and happy to share their knowledge. I really like this place. Good vibe and great drinks. Check it out. Not sure why some clown gave it two stars. “They only serve lunch only during the weekdays (no dinner and no weekends). However it is the best lunch around! It's like your mom went in the kitchen and made it for you. Soups are made from scratch and they are delicious. The BLT on rye is outstanding. And if they have it, you have to try the potato salad. This is a bar with a Northwoods atmosphere that has affordable prices but there are some tables to sit at. They also have a Friday fish special.“

Needless to say, I have been to The Works Tavern a few times and it's some of the best food in Chicago, especially on the south side. Mike is a culinary expert and my last visit proved it. I legitimately had the best Philly Cheesesteak I've ever had. The steak was juicy, the bread was soft and the cheese was super cheesy (10/10).The food is always fresh, the beer is always cold and my kids love the pizza! On our last visit, we ordered the fried zucchini, a pepperoni pizza, wings, and the Philly cheesesteak. Everything was delicious and we washed it down with $3 Pacifico beers. Can't beat that.“
“We were in the area and remembered that Two Chefs was down the street. We have emotional ties to this restaurant because they catered our wedding in 2011 and we were very impressed with their food. The waitress greeted us at the door and was very professional, polite, and well dressed. My husband ordered the chicken pot pie, it was very flavorful. The chicken was very tender and the crust was flaky like you would expect. I ordered the 1/2 chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli it was so delicious and brought back memories. We will be back for sure when we are in the area again. If your in the area, I recommend giving this place a try!“

Not to a point that I had to ask to remake the steak but enough for me to be slightly disappointed with the steakhouse signature menu. I ordered. Rare plus. Might be because of it ? But I ALWAYS order rare plus in all of my steak. No inside steak was cold. But I am very happy with the staff. I would return any time. It is a minor thing . Both of our cocktails were incorrect, but the bar order was rectified. Food was tasty and ample. The cioppino was way too spicy (hot). Chef went overboard on the red pepper flakes. From the initial planning with Sonia to the day of, we were blown away by the food, service and care we received. There is very little needed in terms of decoration [the space is beautiful as-is] and Sonia and her team did a wonderful job keeping everything running smoothly and on time. We even ended up needing to push our first course back by at least 15 minutes and they still didn’t skip a beat. Nothing felt rushed, behind schedule or off beat in any way. “The Newark Nook is one of the more famous speakeasy's on Chicago's Northwest side. While it is most famous for being Milton S. Hershey's preferred watering hole when he visited Chicago for the 1893 World's Fair, it was also the scene of several gangland shootings in the 1920's, and was built on the site of a civil war battle where famed wild Buffalo hunter, Col. Michael Gallen, was killed. Today the bar is mostly known for its extensive cocktail list and secret lounge area. The food is prepared by a former James Beard award winning chef but is a bit too fancy to my taste, but everything is very nice. The Colonel Gallen Buffalo Nachos are stellar and include a commemorative plate that can be taken home.“

“Smitty's ale house is at the location of the old stores, the spirits bar not the strip club. They really did not change much from the outside. The new owners updated the bathrooms, looks like they expanded the kitchen and removed the dj booth. All probably good moves, based off of the history. The aaa staff was nice and engaging. The crowd for a bears Sunday was a lot lighter than the places previously iteration . That may be due to the bears sucking this year though. There was also less staff but enough for the limited crowd. For an ale works they had pretty standard beers on tap. Looked like only one rotating tap out of the 10 on the taps. Not a very deep option for beer needs. I do think any bar named Smitty's should have guineas on tap . I had the steak quesadillas. They were solid bar food. Overall thisplace is worth the stop but needs a bit more to stand out.“
