“We visited Shipshewana this weekend for a concert, before we left Sunday morning we stopped at basically the only place in the town that was open for breakfast. Sooo glad we stopped!! This is such a cute little restaurant, very clean and owners were very friendly! We loved our biscuit sandwiches, we will definitely be back next time we’re in town!“

“We went for lunch and it was amazing. If I could give more than 5 stars for service I would.I had the apple burger and it was very tasty. I had a side salad with the oriental dressing and enjoyed it also.Even though the day was gloomy, sitting in the garage area with all the windows was pleasant. The area is heated so it was very comfortable.I had a whiskey and cola, the pour was nice.“
“Delicious, ordered Coffee, 1/2 order Biscuits and Gravy, 2 eggs over easy, and sausage. Omg, 2 full biscuits, sausage gravy filled the plate. Got 2 sausage patties instead of the usual 1 from other restaurants. It's in the Boonies along US 20, small place. But Well Worth the Stop! Oh, and the price was less than $15. But in this Biden Economy that's Dirt cheap for All you get... I'll definitely be stopping my next time thru. I hear the Ice Cream place in back has the Best Ice Cream along US 20...????“
“Its a rare occasion we are able to go out for a nice dinner and enjoy ourselves having 3 teenagers but when we do we like to try places we have never been! Tonight we chose the Backroads Tavern and let me tell you... we were NOT disappointed. A relaxing, scenic 45 min drive from angola resulted in the best meal we have had out in a long while. The cheese sticks were pretty darn close to "world famous" as our amazing waiter Chris stated. Followed up by the most tender waygu steak with crispy brussel sprouts and loaded fries! Not a single thing I could have done better had I made it myself at home! Drinks were nice and strong, atmosphere was pleasing. However... what made us want to rant and rave about this dining experience was the service we received. From the moment we walked thru the door we were greeted with a smile. Chris was attentive, personable, knowledgeable. He cared enough about his customers and the service he provided to the point we felt he had to be the owner! THAT folks is what makes me WANT to come back to an establishment! Job WELL DONE Backroads Tavern and Chris! Thank you for a very enjoyable evening!“
“We've been eating at the Hilltop Restaurant for several years now at least once or twice a month, we love it...BUT---the coffee is so weak! Our only other complaint is that sausage links for breakfast are like those little cocktail weiners---ugh. Wish they would change to a different sausage link more like traditional ones. That being said, eggs are ALWAYS consistent, so is the bacon. Love it that you get four strips when you order two eggs. Hash browns are wonderful, toast is great, too...I can count on a delicious breakfast each and every time, cooked the same way, no matter who is cooking in the kitchen. My sunny side up eggs are always perfectly cooked, unlike some restaurants that may over cook them depending on who is in the kitchen. So thank you, Hilltop, for great traditional home cooking.“
“My daughter and I stopped in for our first time on our way to see a show in a neighboring town. We were amazed at how good the food was. We started with an appetizer of very good homemade pie followed up by the best buttermilk pancakes I have ever had.“

Had the potato skins ( were delicious and came quickly), wife had the breaded chicken sandwich and fries( she said it was the best chicken sandwich she had ever had), I ordered the new York strip with potatoes an carrots( steak was over but the sides were delicious), good drinks ( wife didn't like the orange pieces in the orange boozy shake)“
“We visited for the first time tonight and were very pleased! My husband & I both got the smaller portion of the lake perch and both agreed it was some of the best perch we've had. The baked potato & green beans that came with it were good as well. We'll definitely be back to try more menu items.“
“Wonderful home cooking! Waitress was so accommodating. We called from Shipshewanna to see if they could have a table for 10 set up by the time we got there. Not only was it ready, they had us in a side room by ourselves. It was a special group of family and friends who had not been together for a few years. They helped make it a special evening!“
“I'm so glad this place has stayed afloat with so many owner changes in the past several years. The new owners have done a lot to improve the place, including the mini golf course, and I really hope to see the course finally repaired as it was a childhood favorite to play on. Outside of the mini golf, the food here is really good. They have a great selection of sub sandwiches and pizza. Both reasonably priced and very good. I also got to try the buffet that they are testing out last week and absolutely loved it and I hope they keep it around. I'm excited to keep seeing improvements and happy to have another good pizza place around!“
