That was so good. I was also recommended a cannoli that they are known for. I cannot remember the name because I wasn’t given a receipt. No prices were listed for these two items and I was charged $15 total. “I recommend nothing after seeing how terribly they treated a customer this afternoon at the medford sq location. guy came in to pickup pre-ordered cake that was paid for. he was told they didn't have the cake. no apology, no offer deliver cake in the morning.....NOTHING. THE customer finally asked for the only 2 cakes left which were much smaller than cake ordered. he wanted happy birthday written on the cakes and was told it couldn't be done....not sure why. 30 minutes before closing time. the beaten down guy said...I'll take those 2 cakes in replace of the cake I ordered that you failed to make. I was literally floored when the kid behind counter said ...we can't just give you those cakes. you have to pay for them. this could have been handled so many ways better. and again, not one we are sorry. none of the stuff here is anything great...the guy should have went and got a cake at the grocery store. when businesses mistreat and disrespect their customers that's it for me. modern pastry is a small business....I've seen customers treated much better at wal.art and Costco. shame on modern pastry“

“I love the people here; they carry a friendly, honest, warm attitude as flavorful as the pastries that are baked here. I have gotten a large oat milk latte and four pastries that are recommended by the staff. The latte was perfectly heated to combat the current Boston cold winds. The pastries were all not overpowering! I loved how light they were and how nicely they can be paired with a latte. (1) Blueberry muffin (2) Ham and cheese croissant (3) Cinnamon bun - a classic (4) Sugar Brioche bun I went to this inspired by my previous lab PI introducing the breakfast sandwich with light mayonnaise. The egg is so soft. I love the location and atmosphere of the cafe that is suitable for delightful conversations and studying with headphones.“

“The menu is quite expansive, so this is a good catering option. I love middle eastern/Mediterranean food, so I’ve tried a lot of different places in Boston. Compared to other places, I wouldn’t say Sultana’s makes the cut for my favorites, but it wasn’t bad.- Spinach feta quiche: The portion size is good, but the flavor was bland. I wasn’t able to finish it.- Cookies: The cookies weren’t overly sweet, which I liked. They were crumbly yet soft.- Fruit yogurt pastry: This was my favorite. I liked that they are bite-sized (though, this is also dangerous because you’ll end up eating a lot). The pastry was flaky, and the yogurt was sweet, which balanced the tartness of the fruits.- Caprice acma: I wasn’t a fan of this. The acma was too doughy. Maybe it would have tasted better warm.Happy to have tried a new place, but I probably wouldn’t come back.“

Timings don’t show accurately on Google Maps since the lady at the counter doesn’t have access to update the timings, so if you’re in the area - just go and check it out. Mango Mousse Cake

“We got the mango mousse cake for a birthday. It came in a big box tied off with ribbon and two little candles taped to the box. We opted for no writing on the cake because we prefer the fruit top. It should be pretty obvious to the birthday person whose cake it is anyways. I liked that the cake was barely sweet, there was no frosting on the outside! Just thinly sliced fresh mango. The combo of the mango and the slightly sweet cake is the right amount of dessert for me. The cake is slightly denser than Western cake— same texture as angel food cake but not nearly as sweet. The 9-inch cake was more than sufficient for 8 people. Highly recommend; it’s beautiful, tasty and unique.“

With that said, the place was very lively, and you can tell it's a staple to this neighborhood. Everyone came in for breakfast, which was quickly provided. Prices were very fair for the quality of items. The gals behind the counter are clearly hard workers. My husband ordered one of their tamales, and that thing could feed a family of 3. “I was in the area for several days for a work event and I have to say, we kept coming back each morning to try something new because it was just so fantastic. I will mention that it was quite cold outside at the time and there was no seating available, but we were picking it up and taking it with us so it was not personally a thing that we were looking for.Over several days I tried their:Maple Braids - 5/5 right mixture of soft and chewy. Great texture great flavor.Boston Creme - 4/5 Good balance of sweet and tart, also fantastic texture.Old Fashioned Chocolate - 5/5 again all around good texture and flavor. It's a good choice if you want something more simple but still some morning chocolate.Everything Bagel 4/5 - was a bit messy as the everything topping easily fell off, but was very good. Cream Cheese is already added for you, and is the right amount to keep it flavorful and chewy without making it too soft.Breakfast Burrito 4/5 - was much larger than I originally thought it was going to be (which is not a problem at all) good choice of ingredients that gives it a great texture without being too much to clash. And my #1 choice being above and beyond one of the best jam/jelly filled donuts I've had is the Raspberry Bismark 10/5 fantastic in every way. When I'm in the area again I will definitely try to come back and try some more options.“
