“Great atmosphere, staff are friendly too. Good food as well. I meet a friend from Rocky Mount there for lunch every other week. We enjoy the comfort to sit and talk without being lead to believe we are in the way by staying too long. The owner is down to earth and very sociable.“

“Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-N-Q is always a good choice! I'm never able to choose between their amazing fried chicken, and pork barbecue, so I always get a combination plate. Make sure to try their incredible Brunswick Stew! Service is always spot-on, and the dining room is clean and welcoming. I especially like the sink they provide for handwashing by their service counter. They've been providing this complimentary option since long before the pandemic. Kudos to Smithfield's!“

“Every time I work in Kinston, I swing by for the special. First of all, I noticed they changed their hours again and reopened on Monday’s. I always go thru drive thru. On the first day I had beef tips over rice which is listed as a special 3x in a week. I do wish they had more variety in the special of the day. I tried the bone-out fried chicken breast and it was just ok. I couldn’t understand why such a term was used on a menu. Either it’s cooked on the bone or you buy a boneless filet. Not sure why the felt the need to give you the same breast and just pull the bone off for you as if I’m not capable of doing that. Must be a local term. They serve the best homemade creamed potatoes and the cabbage always seasoned well. The side portions should be larger. I didn’t give 5 stars for service because the cashier forgot to give me my drink and I had to return to the restaurant.“

King's Delivery Services Barbeque • $
2405 N Queen St, Kinston

“When traveling to the NC coast recently I stopped for my first visit at Kings Restaurant in Kinston. I was first impressed with the atmosphere and history of this restaurant as soon as I walked into the front door. It was lunchtime on a weekday so it was pretty crowded as I had expected. However, I was seated very quickly by a friendly hostess and as soon as I was seated a waitress appeared with a glass of water and a menu. I was especially interested in sampling their barbecue so I ordered a small barbecue plate with sides of collards and friend okra. I also received hushpuppies. It was all very delicious. The barbecue was coarsely chopped, and the collards were seasoned (and contained small pieces) with country ham. Very impressed with my first visit and will definitely visit this restaurant the next time I travel in this area.“
