“Stopped here after church and was pleasantly surprised. The owner greeted us and sat us immediately. You can genuinely see his care and pride in the restaurant. The service was outstanding. Our daughter was the only child there but they all fussed over her. We really appreciated that. They also made menu modifications for her with no issues. We all loved our food. Portions were plenty and we all brought home some leftovers. Oh and get the beets if you are a beet person. They were fantastic!“

“Wow. The Black River Barn has outdone themselves again. What I remember growing up is an older pub feel with ok food, that has changed. It's now the most reasonably priced, delicious, kid and adult friendly food in a good part of Northern NJ. The atmosphere is palpable and full of life. Everyone loves their service, food, and drinks along with the prices. Can't say enough good about a restaurant I once wrote off as an older crowd. If you haven't visited in a while, give it another chance and they WILL impress you.“

“Hidden Gem we found on our way from NYC to the Poconos. The owner, Mattar, who has been running this great restaurant for 40 years, seated us. Very nice ambiance and a robust menu. The most difficult part was deciding between so many delicious choices. We settled on sharing the Goat Cheese and Beet salad, cheddar broccoli soup, mushroom flatbread, and the short ribs, followed up with cappuccino. We loved everything and can't wait to come back. “I've heard the term "out of body experience" before but could never truly say I've had one until I sank my teeth into a cheboygah (cheese burger for the layman's) at Village Saloon. Paired with fresh cut fries (fresh cuts for the hip) this cheboygah will change everything you ever thought was possible in culinary art. Their chilli is a meaty dense dark texture that warms the coldest souls from the darkest corners of the earth. My wife ventured into the land of poultry there by ordering a fried chicken special. All she lent me was half a wing in fear that she would run out of chicken too fast. Our server, I never got her name as she was also bartending / changing the lives of men and women who were experiencing the saloon, was nothing short of a messenger of God. Bringing food and drinks promptly and kindly and ensuring we did not faint out of pure bliss during our dining experience. All humans must enter this establishment and order a cheboygah. This is the only way to have the best in the universe. It will ruin all other boygahs for you at every place you ever get one. The fact that it comes with fresh cuts fried to superior excellence elevates your situation beyond your wildest dreams. Life begins anew when you leave here. “This local tavern seems to have transformed itself during the pandemic! The food is amazing! I was surprised at the prices however. We intended to stop in for a few beers and burgers, it was not a special night out but it wound up costing as much as if it were. The noise levels tend to get pretty high in the bar, so you may prefer to sit in the back dining area. Go and support locally owned establishments!“

If I had a knock, the chili could have had a little more chili flavor to it. We still liked it though. The volcano was the favorite. And the fries, you have to get the fries. Although I only had a Sambuco Black, it was served appropriately with three coffee beans. Would stop by this bar again. Maybe even do dinner here next time.“

“We have eaten there several times and it is always delicious. We want to give special appreciation to Rachel, your manager, for her special caring and sensitivity to our needs. In today's world, where one struggles, especially if old like we are, to speak to a live human being, when you are able to converse with a person who is actually listening to what you said, this is rare. Add to that delicious fresh food and you have a winner. Tonight we had fresh large shrimps with a most delicious home made cocktail sauce. Fresh crab cakes with a fabulous remoulade, and a chocolate mousse to die for as dessert. We ordered too much and have to save some for tomorrow. We live in town, and are happy to see the names of so many out of town visitors appreciate Chesapeake Tavern.“

“I grew up with my parents taking my brother and l to this Friendly’s location, usually a celebration or simply a night off of cooking for my mom. Because of this, l always associated Friendly’s with happy times and have a deep affection for the chain. I understand the intervening years since the 1980’s have not been kind to the company, but they continue on and so do we. Tonight my wife and l had dinner here. The food was simple and tasty just as it’s always been. Our server, Lis, was a delightful young woman, pleasant and efficient and on point. And what trip to Friendly’s would be complete without some ice cream? That l can enjoy a meal and the same Reese’s Pieces sundae l remember 40 years later pleases me immensely. I do hope Friendly’s can pull off a turn around. It would be a shame for this piece of Americana to vanish. If you haven’t been to Friendly’s in a while, why not stop by and support this local establishment? I’m glad l did.“

“Surprisingly good Irish food. We stopped in on a random Wednesday night while staying in the area. There was some bingo going on and it was not very crowded. I always feel the need to try corned beef or a Reuben any time I visit any Irish eatery. I asked the server how the Reuben egg rolls (yes Reuben egg rolls!) were and she said they are a big hit. So I got those as an appetizer and they were very good and something very unique. I also had the burger with corned beef on it and it was cooked perfect and the corned beef had just the right amount of tang to it. My daughter loved her fries and mozzarella sticks and filled up on those before she even got to try her Mac and cheese. Overall the food was delicious, the server was incredibly friendly and helpful and was extremely patient with a 4 year old that was a bit fussy from traveling all day. I'll certainly return the next time I'm in the area.“
