Cresskill Tavern Bar • $
29 E Madison Ave, Cresskill

“A great place to chill out and not as crazy as other bars, unless the bartenders and the patron's favorite team plays ??. I lived in Cresskill for pretty much all of my life, and I don’t know why I never went here. I wish they had food because the name “Cresskill Tavern” is pretty misleading; other than that, it’s a great place, and so far, I have yet to see any negatives.“

“In the area for an 8pm concert at Bergen PAC (3.5 mi away) - had seen Scotty's listed, I'd never heard of it. I used to be in Cresskill area a lot, not so much over last 2 years or so. Looking for a place to go before the show, we navigated to Scotty's and I'm glad we did. This is exactly the place the area needs! Very cool vibe, we were promptly seated in bar area (our choice). Greeted by a great young man, Shawn, he took some drink orders and let us settle in. When we ordered we got mussels for an appetizer (highly recommended) and both ordered burgers. Great burgers! I really, really liked this place!!! Since I'm inquisitive, I looked up the history of Scotty's and discovered they've been open for less than a year! I'll let you look into it yourself, but to the owner...thank you for your service! A+ place. Now that it's on my radar, it's a go to when we are in the Bergen County area!!!“

We started with the meatball and fried mozzarella appetizers and were full by the time the entrées arrived. The waiter was informative and the staff was on top of their game. Very attentive. Most important, we ordered drinks, I had a gin and ginger with lime and I must tell you that the bartender was not stingy.. We had a good time and I'm definitely going back.“

The Hamilton Bar • $$
998 Amsterdam Ave, New York - 9.59 miles

“I've never had whiskey before, because my mother always said it was an undignified drink for women. At the risk of appearing unladylike, I stumbled into The Hamilton with the intention of trying whiskey for the first time. As I was internally battling with my mother's judgement, a kind bartender named Ross noticed me looking troubled. He could tell immediately what my predicament was. I was surprised how intuitive he was. He assured me that women drink whiskey all the time, and it's completely normal. Ross allowed me to sample a few different kinds of whiskey, and I really loved how it made me feel! I'll admit, I did feel slightly more boisterous after consuming the samples, but Ross assured me that it was okay to express myself! At the end of the sampling, he fixed me an elegant cocktail, and I was again reminded of my feminine demeanor. I loved being able to let loose while sipping a delicate cocktail. Who says women can't drink whiskey??? THIS woman can and WILL! Thank you Ross.“

“$25 cover (unsure if this price changes per booking) for Amazing Band (sound needs a bit of work) but a great band knows how to work with what they got and bring the house down. I wish the tables faced the stage because how it is is killing my neck. Although drinks are on the sweeter side with a bit of food it helps to alter the taste buds (or wait for the ice to melt a bit. It always helps.) The small bites leave a bit to be desired but they do the trick if you've eaten a meal elsewhere and are just hankering for a small bite. Overall a great spot for an intimate or party night out (depends on the band really). Spots 100% worth a trek from all the way yonder.“

“My experience at the restaurant was a bit overwhelming due to the noise and crowded atmosphere, especially on a Friday night with live music. “This is one of those special brunch spots in Washington Heights we absolutely love. Our team, along with some of my friends and I, have gone here so many times, and we're always so obsessed with the food that I forgot pictures. They always have amazing pizza. Today my friend I went for brunch and it was everything. I think they make the nest pancakes in NYC. If you come here and don't try the pancake, you're missing out. It's delicious. Buttery, crunchy on the outside but soft in the inside. Everyone loves it here. The lentil soup with a side of sourdough bread was perfect, hearty, and fulfilling. The kale salad is my favorite salad. It's delicious. My friend loved her avocado toast with eggs on top. They also made the best cappuccino and Chai lattes. This is a must if you're in the heights from brunch.“

“This a 5 star review because it hit all of the check marks. You simply cannot get the same value you will get here anywhere else.Firstly, the staff is family, and very welcoming and accommodating. They Truly care about the restaurant, its legacy and there foodA very comfortable environment with 80's/90's country music playing and a homey feeling dining room. I felt like I went my cousins for dinner and coffee. Our waitress was one of the owners and helped me select some craft brews they offered. Very generous and appreciated. The Buffalo Wings are excellent. Cooked right and in a thinner sauce with a little zing but not overpowering. Our dinners were the Godfather Trio (Veal, Shrimp Parm and Eggplan Rollantini) and the 16oz Sizzling steak. The Italian Trio was a good portion and had a nice sauce, very filling and a very reasonable price. The Steak was better than some steakhouses and "higher-end" restaurants that like to charge $40-$60 for it.The steak was PERFECT! And for a price point under $30 is one of the best bargains you can find! Flavor was amazing and cooked expertly! We finished with coffee and the Chocolate Mousse Cake & Cheesecake. Well worth it and again; a price you can't beat.We even took home dinners for work the next day. It was that good. This is a Gem and a throw back to how things used to be and should be. Where your welcomed in and treated like a guest in a home and fed a wonderful meal.***Keep in mind - Cash Only But the have anATM on site. Not a big deal.Head in and enjoy. “2024, the year someone, anyone finally got me to read fiction consistently for an extended period of time. Acknowledgements to @tenanaan for her forever reaching third eye into the souls of readers. She and the staff at @thelitbar always push the envelope to find word seekers' arrangements of pages that defy their norms and push their brains into a separate reality. This morning I completed this work by the great #VictorLavalle . I somewhat read this book out of order after having read #LoneWoman January 20-January 25. I initially had not selected this work out of a group of 7 that Tenaja gave me to choose from. I thought I had already seen this on #AppleTv+. I selected Lone Woman, loved that, only to discover that, in reality, the series I thought I saw was not #The Changeling , it was M. Night Shyamalan's: Servant. The Changeling is a pounding thriller that will keep you guessing incorrectly from beginning to end. It will capture your attention with a rolling villain in all aspects of this real life/scifi/real life saga. Who is the bad guy/bad girl? Who should be arrested, hung, or given the Presidential Medal of Freedom? The question is: Who will make it? Is making it even an option? What is a win? Does "Happily ever after exist? It's worth stopping at The Lit. Bar to visit, read, drink, buy books that typical book sellers aren't selling. There is nothing in the world like being introduced to a world that has coexisted in the world you live in, without knowing it was there the whole damn time. Plan a trip to The Bronx, if you are already in the Bronx, make it your destination for new reading interest and a great reading vibe.“

“Early holiday dinner. We started with a bottle of the Super Tuscan Red Blend. Reasonably priced for a restaurant and delicious. For the appetizers we chose the Caprese Tower and the Calamari (we thought it was fried - instead it was grilled in the sauce). Still a satisfying dish. For dinners we had the Frutta di Mare - one over linguini, the other over the squid ink linguini. We were somewhat disappointed with the pasta being overcooked - this is home made pasta after all. (That explains the four stars.) The third main was the Chicken Scarpariello over penne. No complaints there. All dishes were flavorful and generously portioned. We had leftovers to take home. We finished with coffees and shared the Brownie Ala Mode special. Delicious! Divino's coninues to be an excellent dining spot with the helpful, friendly and cordial staff, pleasant ambiance and delicious food. We will definitely be returning soon.“

“I adore this place. I have ordered the margarita pizza with broccoli for delivery many times, and it's probably the best pizza I have found in the Bronx. Wood-fired, soft yet grilled crust, fresh mozzarella, really good tomato sauce, and generous with the toppings. Dining in is also a great experience -- it's warm and homey inside, and you feel like you have left the grind of daily life and are settling in for a festive, really good meal. Doesn't feel like an Americanized Italian restaurant but rather a small pocket of Italy in the Bronx. As for the rest of the menu, top notch Caesar salad, really good banana bread pudding, scallop/lentil appetizer is good but best to share because it can be a lot of the same flavor and filling for an appetizer. “The best pork cutlet restaurant. The best pork cutlet on the outside. I tried all of New Jersey looking for delicious pork cutlet. This is the best. I highly recommend it.Mulnaengmyeon is said to be a bit salty because it is made from pocha, but it was a bit salty to eat as food, so it was just that. The noodles were chewy and the soup had a thin ice.The boiled pork is perfectly moist and delicious. Highly recommended. The water ribs were truly disappointing. It was $45 for a small dish, but it felt like I was eating $45 bean sprouts. All I got were 10 pieces of marbled beef that looked like they were piled high on top.Inside is literally just a mountain of bean sprouts and nothing to eat. There are almost no other vegetables.Humanly speaking, that price is a waste of money. $45 is a rip-off.Still, I will go back to eat the pork cutlet stew.“

“I came here on a random late Saturday night with a friend looking for a spot to get a drink and maybe have some luck in finding a place still open to serve some appetizers. It was to our surprise that the kitchen was fully open after 10pm! My friend ordered the Salmon and I got the Ceasar salad which was very delicious, however, I regretted not ordering the mofongo. People that ordered around me had me craving it! The DJ was really good too; played old school music and currents ones. All the servers provided great customer service. What I liked the most was the crowd- it was almost empty and everyone was just living their best life dancing on their chairs and playing games. If you’re young and single looking for a place to meet people; I doubt this is the place. Everyone was in their late 30s and older hanging out after the brunch crowd went on their merry way. I will be going back again with more friends to enjoy good food, good drinks, and good company.Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor and plenty of space“

“Pretty decent spot, not too far away from 46 which is good. Handicap accessible as the whole establishment is on one floor I had the sweet Thai chili wings extra crispy, and Lord were they amazing!! I was obsessed and so sad that I was done eating them Lol. The Bartender and Bar were super attentive and helpful. “I am happy to say everything was excellent!! The last time I dined here I was disappointed and stayed away a while but I am so glad everything seems back to normal and it was just a one time off night back then. The homemade chicken soup was piping hot and spectacular like of your Grandmother made it!! The veal franchese was tender and just the right amount of lemon and wine. Broccoli Rabe with garlic and oil delicious not too bitter and not mushy it was made to order and very good. The dessert special was a Irish cannoli that was cannoli cream with Baileys and crème D mint in it and it worked, so delicious. I highly recommend for a fabulous dinner.“

“I'm surprised that I have been living in the area this long and have not been here until now! Went for the first time today and absolutely loved it. The waitress Melissa was very friendly and helpful. The vibes were as if I were at a rock bar without the drunkards. And the food was incredible! Rony made us the juiciest burgers (even better than what I was craving) and personally came to our table to ask how we were doing. 10/10, definitely recommend!“

“We had a great first experience! Deena and Laura are very attentive and made us feel welcome. It was hard to make a decision with the vast menu, but we both landed on good choices. Here's my Englebert Pumperdink with thick, fresh sliced turkey breast, ham, bacon, onion and tomato. Breaded mushrooms with horseradish sauce are great...and my friend loved his very tender shell/strip steak with an enormous onion ring and a side of mixed sweet potato fries and wedge fries. My favorite though was the side of garlic mash and gravy! Definitely worthy of a trip back to Horsefeathers ☺️“

“This place has a lot of mixed reviews so I was ready for anything. I came here last night for a Game Night meetup, and I will most DEFINITELY return. First of all, it's not divey at all in my opinion. And I wouldn't say it's "small" either! Plenty of space, a variety of seating choices and a TON of outdoor dining space as well. A word of caution, the kitchen opens at 8pm, and since I showed up with my folks after work, I had to tell my stomach to be patient and wait until I could order food. Also, amazingly, Happy Hour lasts until 9PM, which is UNHEARD of, and Happy Hour drink prices are as low as $6-7, EVEN for specialty drinks. I got the Sex on the Beach (per other reviewer recommendations) and I LOVED it. You could BARELY taste the liquor, but BOY, was it IN there. Even my sister, who initially declined, was sipping me and my mom's drinks by the end of the night. Once 8pm hit, I got my lemon pepper wings and fries and both were delicious! Fry-lovers, their fries pass inspection. (Note: Food is not part of the Happy Hour specials). The vibe the whole night was super friendly, and the bartender was AWESOME. Everyone was down-to-earth, non-pretentious, nothing shady, just here to have a good time. Also, the music selection was old-school Hip-Hop and RnB and it was on POINT. It was a little empty when we arrived around 6:30, but by 9pm the place got pretty packed. We played Scattergories with some peeps and had a great time. Also, expect a slightly older crowd; this isn't some college joint. I am now a fan!“

“Overall experience is a 4.5 stars . As a customer I don’t want to feel like I’m forced to tip servers . Furthermore I don’t want it to seem as if I don’t support staff for doing their job but a mandatory 18% service fee is ridiculous if that wasn’t included in my bill my waitress was seeing atleast 20% to 25% of my bill but unfortunately service fee being designed prior is not a stylish fit to the atmosphere. Wonderful spot butter chicken items have Indian touch perfectly drinks are poured amazingly dj is great can’t complain other than business seeming to want to force cash grab. I’m fortunate enough to afford to do this but if you saw this spot from instagram as me and wanted to take a date and wanted to dollar count just make sure you add 18% to your bill.“

“I absolutely love Mazzy’s! Cheyenne (the owner) is a sweetheart, and so is everyone she employs. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The decor is super cute, service is quick, and drinks are great. I’m also very fond of the electronic games they have. Last time I went was for a special event, and I can’t recommend going on a night like that enough. Costume contest, an excellent drag performance, crafts, and partnering with a local org that does good work: the whole package.“

“Oldest bar in the Bronx, bartender and all the regulars rule. Great drinks, borderline best value-for-the-drink on the basics in the whole friggin' city. I couldn't get ahold of anyone via phone or online to confirm they were open at 8 am like Yelp said (they were, turns out!), otherwise I would have been there earlier.“
