“With family out of town, I went here on Thanksgiving. I happen to love dive bars, but this place instantly became one of my very favorites. Absolutely love the decor and vibe, classic dive bar. “We went to the 101 Pub to watch a Knicks game and the bartender was extremely accommodating. Tim put the game on for us on the TV in front of us. They have many TVs at the bar. We ordered some spicy chicken tenders which were delicious! Tim kept replacing my beer as soon as I was done. Very chill bar for both families and just groups of friends.“

Our table also had the Linguini Alfredo, Cesar wrap and the Thai Sweet Chili Sandwich. We didn’t like the pretzel bun but otherwise everything was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. They brought out bread (including gluten free bread) with a dipping sauce of olive oil, garlic paste, and peppers that was incredible. We split the caviar topped tater tots, tuna crudo, broccoli (served over yogurt, so unique and one of the best veggie dishes we’ve ever had), and the limone pasta on a gf noodle (gf noodle made in house and my non-gf friend said it was amazing pasta even among non-gf. “I came here for my birthday dinner. The staff here were so friendly and helpful. They explained the tasting course thoroughly. The first course was a set of three little dishes and the rest was a sort of "choose your own adventure" type of thing. My brother, husband and I each ordered something different and we got to try most of the menu that way. The presentation was impeccable and the food was top notch. They presented me with a cute little birthday dessert with a candle. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.“

A little snob, but maybe that’s the vibe they want to share around. We had reservation but it was delayed, and we couldn’t have a drink while we’re waiting. The food was tasty, but not crazy to wait for delays. However, the place is cute if you don’t mind those details. Some people of the staff, great, others a little snobby and not friendly. Extremely loud place too, if you like to have a conversation, it’s not the kind of place I would recommend. You should try it at least once to find out tho, maybe it’s fine for you. I like lively places but not the ones with such much noise that you can’t hear the person next to you.“

Although it may seem a bit steep for a food court, this is a high end food court (spacious and spotless, surrounded by luxurious hotels and exclusive galleries), and they're serving premium ingredients. Just four of these courses on their own (Madai with Beet and Mandarin; Hiramasa with Golden Osetra; Lobster with Kombu; Eel with Foie Gras) if put on a bigger plate and served on white table clothes could make up a prix fixe worth $135, but because this is a casual food court, you get a lot of "bang for your buck." The only thing that prevented me from being completely comfortable here was the very loud music overhead, very hectic, very frenzied, WOOF.“

Let me set the scene for ya'll... 35 of my closest friends, Game of Thrones themed decor & fits, cocktails that made everyone say "I drink and I know things" and the most fire food in the neighborhood... the party was a SLAY. Tali, the company's event coordinator, is the sweetest, most hard-working, and detail-oriented, especially when it comes to your event. She even went above and beyond to surprise me with a GOT themed menu by naming my cocktails after details of life. For example, she named the spicy margarita after my dog, "Kevyn the Kingslayer." COME ON! How amazing is that?!Speaking of cocktails... the incredible bartender, Olivia, bartended Red Witch magic with the amazing cocktails she made for everyone. She even dressed along with the theme, with her sword, serving vibes that was giving Night's Watch combined with Red Keep of the Bar. Everyone kept raving about every cocktail she made with style and care.When it comes to the food, The Bonnie always delivers, so of course my hopes were high for Charlie's. AND MY HOPES WERE MET! “I pass the Penrose frequently, a block from the 2nd Ave Q entrance on 83rd. It is a perfect spot to meet up after work for drinks and snacks. Good music, friendly atmosphere. I tell everyone, my husband and I had brunch with our wedding party there. Great place. Recently my dad passed, and when trying to decide where to celebrate his life with extended family and friends my sister and I decided on The Penrose and emailed the events manager Chaya. She helped with everything, never got tired or short with her answers. We would think of all our questions after we signed off. Chaya made recommendations, helped our ideas come to life, and made a difficult moment easy. Day of memorial: Chaya and her team created the perfect atmosphere. Our server Emma and bartender Audrey were exceptional. The guests kept telling us what great service, atmosphere and food, but repeated to us how great the servers were. We had 30 people, in the back area with tables and bar seating. Chaya helped us choose the right amount of food, and beverages. Emma kept the area clean with out being intrussive, Audrey kept us “hydrated”. We had a buffet food area - food was great!They put to go boxes out for guest to take treats home. Thanks to Chaya we were able to truly celebrate dad, she had his play list, which we provided pumped in and a slide show with his great life moments on the screen over the bar. He served in WWII, a decorated war hero, with great taste in music. They also insured the Honor Guard ceremony, presenting flag and playing of taps went off seamlessly. As I said in my first paragraph The Penrose is a great place, but on this day it was exceptional. Chaya, Emma, and Audrey turned my dads celebration of life into a warm family moment that we will remember fondly and proudly. Thank you Chaya, Emma, and Audrey! I recommend the pigs in a blanket, fries, and coconut cake. The burger was normal, and there is a quinoa burger for vegetarians. It wasn’t dry, but it was a little mushy when means it’s hand made! Overall, I think you should try it! The majority of the high pricing comes from the alcohol, expect to pay a premium. Oh, and I loved the calamari.Wheelchair accessibility: They have an elevator! Despite the tight arrangement of tables making it difficult to move around, the food and service were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the vegetarian dish with pasta and plan on returning for it. My friends also loved their salmon dishes and couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. Overall, while the ambiance was not to my liking, the quality of the food and service made up for it.“
