“I've lived in this area for almost a decade, but had not yet found Latin food that could compare to what I had growing up in Union City and when I lived in the city and visited Washington Heights. Until now, that is! Surrender Cafe recently became available on DoorDash. I had never heard of it, but was drawn by the great reviews, tempting photos of the food, and many of my favorites on a menu with lots of my favorites. This is the first time I've ever ordered from a place, and then immediately again the next day. I especially love that so many of their dishes are available in smaller portions. Want to try the mofongo? Here's the mofonguitos! And meat-only portions can be had of just about everything in small, medium or large sizes, which made it easy for me to sample the beef and chicken guisado, red and black beans, pernil, so I ordered the bistec ecebollado for my main dish. Everything, absolutely everything is delicious, and arrived well packaged. Oh - and I almost forgot - the tres leches! Absolutely top notch. Not only some of the best Latin food I've ever had, but some of the best comfort food I've ever had, period.“

“Came in on a Friday with my brother and so happy to see my favorite bartender Jimmy. He went out of his way to make sure I had a sample of the seafood salad to make sure I liked it. I will admit the food is very good, but also very pricey. However, the people are so warm and friendly, very inviting. The live music is very fun and I love seeing the customers dance! “I finally had the chance to have a sit down meal by myself and was not disappointed at all. 5 stars in all categories is very rare for me to give but when its perfect its deserving. My server had me scan a code for a review of his service but i lost it. I believe his name was Manuel (my apologies if i may be wrong). I was there on Tuesday about 5pm party of 1 my total was $68. I had the Mary Mar with roasted potatoes along with sangria if that helps you figure out the server. He deserves special mention for exceptional service. From my dining experience i tend to remember the level of service before i remember the meal. Servers set the tone and create the dining experience from beginning to end. It's imperative they are well trained and understand the importance of the role they play for the restaurant. The food is outstanding in taste and presentation. The atmosphere is relaxing and the place is well decorated. Thank you for the perfect dining experience.“

“This place has very good potential to be a regular spot.They have the best quesadillas ever. The tacos were alright, to be honest. The meat was rather dry, in my honest opinion, but I feel like it could've just been an off day for them when I tried it.The lady who helped us was absolutely sweet and really took time to get our orders correctly.The birria is good but definitely did not have a good consomé.
