Restaurantji's Watchung guide: Where to find the best Mexican flavors.
“Don’t forget to always use your points. It helps to get free items once in a while you just gotta tell the person that’s getting your food to add a little extra rice a little extra meat sometimes they just do one spoonful like a large one.“
“I love going here. The food is always fresh and delicious. The staff is patient and helpful with my order. They help with suggestions for sauces. I always leave satisfied ..I love their burritos and their guacamole is my favorite around.“
“I just want to say the combination of Mexican flair with old-school steakhouse menu is absolutely refreshing. Chips, wine knowledge is superb, and the selection of wine that he personally gives attention to for the restaurant is probably some of the best.“
“We had an amazing time on our date night! Juan was an incredible server. He answered all of our questions and even gave suggestions for things we would love. The food was quick but they didn’t rush you at all. We can’t wait to come back!“
“I recently dined at this fantastic restaurant and had the pleasure of savoring their grilled chicken quesadilla. The flavors were exquisite, and the chicken was perfectly grilled. The friendly service added to the overall delightful experience. Highly recommend!“
“We went here with a friend. The kitchen was a bit loud like someone was banging pots. Decor is pretty sparse, we were the only people there on a Saturday evening. The tacos are good, don't expect any sort of side like beans or rice. Everything on the menu is less than $15 so expect the experience to line up accordingly.“
“The place is just fun to eat at; great lighting, fun decorations. All our food was great, and the create your own taco menu was AWESOME! Prices were very reasonable as well, and staff was on point. (Went here before a show at the State Theater)“
“Had such a great breakfast here today. The red velvet waffles were delicious as was the latte I ordered. My daughter had the huevos rancheros which she said was really good. My niece had the eggs Benedict which she said was cooked perfectly. Such a nice cafe with friendly staff. Will definitely be back!Kid-friendliness: They had high chairs available.“
“We went there for dinner and we definitely recommend giving it a try. The ribs were on point. The enchiladas were also very good. This place has won many awards in the past and has been around for a while. The service was friendly and accommodating.“
“Always a great time here, food is delicious and the alcohol is actually good. Never felt sick after drinking margs here even the next day. The food is large portions and always delicious. Recommend getting apps and margs then sharing tacos because we always fill up after we ate that. The wait typically isn’t bad and there’s always been space at the bar to wait. Would recommend it here if you are looking for good Mexican food“
“We went last week, based on these reviews, as I have been wanting Mexican food but a little different from the usual. This was it! Quite good, charming hostess/owner. Really loved the "sopes" which was an oblong open-faced tortilla dish with fillings.Parking: Was able to park on street right in front.“
“I tried their birria tacos when they first opened (1-2 years ago), and they were good but I remember the tacos were on the smaller side compared to others I've had (e.g. Chofi in Union). Granted, they were a new restaurant and I assumed still working out some kinks. In all honesty, I ended up forgetting about this restaurant. I just ordered through Uber eats today, and the tacos were bigger than last time, tasted amazing, and delivered hot. Flavor was on point for the tacos, consome, and green salsa. Happy to add The Birria Kitchen in my rotation of local restaurants!“
“I read the reviews online and went there based on their ratings. I was expecting a nice little sit down restaurant but this is actually more of a takeout place. They do have a few tables so we did eat in there. The food was fresh. I wasn't thrilled with the flavors. I got fish tacos and really the only thing I could taste was the cabbage. The guacamole and chips were very good and fresh. I probably won't go back. The people there are extraordinarily nice“
“This place is a gem in HP, quaint and charming, hands down, some of the best food I’ve had recently! They use the freshest ingredients and make sure each dish is done the right way. The Tacos al Pastor was especially memorable. Must try!!“
“Never knew this cantina was here! Such a great spot. Very cool interior decor, service was nice, food was delicious, and drinks were strong! They start you off with chip and salsa. The bacon wrapped jalapeños were a fantastic appetizer. They were spicier than expected and we loved them. The margarita flight is a must get. We love them frozen and our favorites were coconut and passion fruit. The burrito with bacon wrapped shrimps was delicious!! Definitely recommend stopping by here if you can!Now for my standard comments. The interior was very clean and they have patio seating outdoors.Wheelchair accessibility: Handicap parking right outside, no steps to get inside. They have a floor level and then upstairs.“
“My friend and I got together for some good Mexican food. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted by the host/server and sat. It was a dimly lit restaurant. I started with the red sangria, and that was tasty. I was a little disappointed because they had no red wine for my next drink, so stuck with the sangria. For my appetizer, I got the camarones scampi, but it was a garlic shrimp, and it was tasty. My friend had the fiesta platter and I tried it and it was good. We then had the shrimp tacos, which were delicious! For my meal, I got the red snapper, and my friend had the garlic shrimp dish. I really enjoyed the red snapper, and my friend enjoyed the shrimp. We then had the dulce de leche cheesecake, which was good. We really had a good experience!“
“Authentic Mexican Restaurant! The food was delicious and fresh, the place is very clean. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. I would recommend this place. It gets a five star rating from me.Dietary restrictions: They were able to customize my dish according to my dietary needs.“
“If you’re looking for savory food this is is the place. Had to try the menu and it’s been 3 times already jajaja. The tacos are loaded, great prices, the atmosphere is quiet and chill, and the natural juices are great as well. If you’re in the area definitely a must try.“
“If you are looking for place having Mexico food with nice vibe, it’s the great choice for you! Very colorful and detailed indoor decoration. Plenty of combinations, and you can customization, adding beans, lettuce, tomatoes, sour creamParking: Limited place for parking“
“When I say everything was top notch. I got the fried pickles 10 out of 10, the street corn also a 10 out of 10.To add to my madness I got the shrimp and jerk chicken fajitas. Babbyyyyyyyyy I was so surprised at how it came out. My food came out sizzling and I love it. The toppings were so fresh and so on point. I love this place it’s a new fav for me. 20 out of 20I had a margarita the mi casa is su casa it was so freaking delicious and I got one to go. It was made with casamigos. My first time here and let me just say I will be back. My waiter was sweet and attentive“
“I was surprised by how good the food was. I got a burrito bowl with carne and it was fantastic. The meat was tender and savory, and the combination of flavors left me wanting more. The atmosphere was really nice and casual. The dining area was semi outdoors with a sliding roof that they will open/close depending on the weather. I'll definitely be coming back and recommend it to anyone dining in this area.“
“When it comes to Mexican cuisine, this is the spot where you should spend your money. Small location but suitable for a party of 4. I mean, you just have to make a stop and try for yourself. The price is also great for the food you're getting. Try it out.“
“I found the chorizo to be extremely flavorful and full of spice and a great level of heat. I enjoyed it inside a burrito. You order via a kiosk and get a buzzer, and when your food is ready, the buzzer goes off, and you pick up your food at a separate window. The place has a cozy ambiance and efficient workers. No complaints.“
“Great food for very reasonable prices! Can’t believe I’ve driven past here so many times and haven’t tried it sooner— we will definitely be back! The owner even came up to us and chatted with us for a bit. He offered us a new queso dish he was testing out, it was “
“Stopped by after an event at Chatham. The atmosphere was relaxing/calm. The service/ customer service was great, we were greeted as soon as we came in and our food was brought in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the Molcajete and it was delicious with an authentic taste! We will definitely return.“
“The place is nice , good for quick breakfast-brunch. The menu is pretty big, but the food is not special. We got a flight of jams, it was served with mini croissants, corn muffins and biscuits, but it wasn’t fresh at all. It was warmed up, but tasted like it’s been standing for few days already. I’ve had the smoked salmon omelette that was served with home fries and a toast-it was great. Overall, a nice place but wouldn’t say that I loved it.“
“I had the Chicken Enchiladas (red) and it was wonderful!!! Fresh, delicious homemade Tres Leches!!! Best ever! Nice, casual, very clean, very friendly! The owner herself took my order. The food came out quickly and it was delicious!!!!!! Excellent Chipotle Chicken!Parking: Large public parking lot right beside it and also street parking.“
“one of the best places around new brunswick. not sure why it's 3 stars they have great customer service the chorizo, shrimp, and queso are beyond amazing this place is very good. MUST go to but don't go on a friday night as it will be packed with college kids.“
“Ordered via a food delivery service close enough to closing time to wonder if I'd regret wasting my money ?but was pleasantly (and thankfully) surprised!Instead of end of the night lack luster food, my flautas were crispy, street corn was ???, chicken tacos were perfect and guac was plentiful (as opposed to the condiment-sized container often used) !Y'all, I was so impressed that I called them today to tell them that I appreciated the quality of the food! I ride past this humble, unassuming establishment all the time not knowing the gem that it is. Will DEFINITELY be ordering again!“
“These guys are great, I came on probably their busiest day of the year (National Burrito Day), they got my order perfect and was able to make my food surprisingly fast considering how slammed they are. They are surely over worked and are being so brave ??Only complaint is the absence of the impossible meat :/“
“I came in here on a Tuesday unaware that this restaurant had a Taco Tuesday special. The taco orders come in sets of 2 and each set is $4, so $2 per taco. Compared to some of the other Mexican restaurants around, this was an exceptional deal to me. After being seated, I was given chips and salsa. There are 4 varieties of salsa that are freshly made in this restaurant and the chips strike the right balance between saltiness, crunchiness, and grease. I ordered 4 sets of tacos that day (8 in total) and stuffed myself silly. Needless to say that the tacos were delicious. I liked that they gave thick cuts of radish with the tacos. It makes them feel healthier in a way. Since I've first came to this restaurant, I've since returned and tried all of the non-vegetarian taco varieties available on Taco Tuesday. My favorites would probably be the al pastor, campechanos, and enchiladas, but all of them were good. I don't think I've ever countered tacos de campechanos or enchiladas before, so those were interesting to me.Besides the tacos, I quite like the interior design of the place. It's very colorful and they play all sorts of old school Mexican pop and rock songs. The service is quick and the staff is very attentive. Now until now I've done nothing but praise this restaurant up until this point, but there are a couple of (very minor) downsides I want to point out. One is that there's no beer or alcoholic drinks served here, which is fine I guess since I really don't need the extra calories anyways. The second is that this place doesn't have my favorite taco variety - tacos de lengua. To me, having tacos de lengua on the menu makes me feel like it's a real Mexican place, but not having isn't the end of the world. Oh well. Would be nice though.I'll be bringing my friends here in the future and hopefully they'll enjoy it as much as I do. Maybe I'll also come back on a day other than Tuesday to try some of the other menu items.“
“A no frill restaurant. We weren’t sure if the server was fluent with English. The service was adequate. We had a burrito bowel, one verde con pollo (chicken w green sauce) tamale, one mole con pollo (chicken with mole) tamale, and a chicken tostada. For drinks we had jarrito mandarine and tamarind piña.The burrito was standard. The verde con pollo was delicious and the tostada was generous and tasty. The mole sauce was more bitter than sweet; it’s different from most places. The tamarind piña was good too.Wheelchair accessibility: It’s a small place with upstairs, no good for wheelchairs“
“this place is truly great. we ordered a few things and ended up taking most of it home because the soup portions were nice and hefty. everything was flavorful and made when ordered. cannot recommend this place enough. as soon as our soups came out we were shocked at how big the bowls were and how aromatic the soups were. flavors and service were on point. hidden gem 100%“
“It was okay. Its a quiet place and the food was fresh. The shrimp were grilled excellently but the chicken in the enchiladas were extremely dry and bland. The cups were amazing and the service was decent. I'd come back, but I wouldn't get the chicken again.“
“Food came out fast and was delicious. Portions were more than sufficient. Very flavorful and just was a truly satisfying meal. Our waitress was friendly and the service was excellent. We will definitely be going back…soon. Big thanks to my friend, Ed, for recommending this place.Vegetarian options: Plenty of choices“
“I had the tamales with pork rather than chicken. The sauce was sultry and with just the right amount of heat. The corn shell was perfect and had a wonderful texture. The meal included a small salad and beans and rice. The server was attentive and polite. I would recommend you give it a try!“
“Fantastic brisket, beef and chorizo tacos. Choose your protien and add all the toppings you want. Very good value for the price.Very friendly and helpful staff.Con: learned that if you use the tipping feature on the checkout tablet that money isn't given to the workers. That is unacceptable.“
“This place has very good potential to be a regular spot. They have the best quesadillas ever. The tacos were alright, to be honest. The meat was rather dry, in my honest opinion, but I feel like it could've just been an off day for them when I tried it.The lady who helped us was absolutely sweet and really took time to get our orders correctly. The birria is good but definitely did not have a good consomé. It was very watery and not rich, and I think that made the birria taste rather plain a bit.But I think it's worth going back again for the chorizo, the quesadillas, and their amazing horchata :)Vegetarian options: Nopales (cactus)HorchataQuesadillas con quesoNachos“
“Ordered from here for the first time for delivery. It was very good! I ordered fish burrito bowl. The fish is shredded in small pieces. We also ordered the short rib tacos which were good and the cheese quesadilla. I would definitely order from here again.“
“An amazing place for a meal that feels like it was made from home. The location has great parking. Fresh food all the time but specials that rotate are a must. The chef took out order and took out food right to our table. Greeted us. Thanked us personally for coming and it was such a welcoming environment.“
“Tiny little place. Good food especially for the price. I got a pork special. Rice and black beans were really good. The small side salad was good including the dressing. Pork was thin cut and pretty good. For $11 this special was very much worth it.“
“On a random need for tacos and pizza combinations. This place is to go to their consommé is a little bit on the spicy side. I was surprised to see a birria pizza here so I gave it a try and I couldn't be more satisfied. I never really seem to see it again I guess it's a special request but I would love to try it again“
“Interesting hole-in-the-wall with unique twists on Mexican cuisine. The liberal use of canela (cinnamon) in select dishes, such as the sautéed mushrooms and beef tacos, might overwhelm some palates. While intriguing, the rare canela infusion lingered on our taste buds longer than expected.“
“I so every so often stop here to grab a quick bite either going to work or heading home. Last time I was here it was soso nothing much just in and out. However, stopped in to grab a quick bite on my way to work. The gentleman behind the counter was what service should be. Polite while he had to refill an item, his team member stepped up to help and greeted me asks what I wanted. Took my order all in good stride. He offered a promo for a beverage. But here is where this young man Chuck deserves a review. Once the costumers where seated he stepped out and checked on each one of us! I have never seen a quedoba employee go out of their way to check on their customers. Customer service, awesome and friendly attitude and atmosphere…WOW!!! This location has a amazing team hopefully management takes notice.“
“My husband and I usually get the breakfast box and an extra hash brown and cinnamon iced coffee. The cinnamon bites inside the box are very tasty and this is so affordable for people on the go or just not in the mood for cooking on a weekend or weekday.“
“Nice hole in the wall restaurant. It can get loud depending on how full the restaurant is. But since we were in the back we got a quiet spot :) One thing is the red lights and dim lit restaurant makes the place dark. I wish they brightened up the space with regular lights instead of the colored lights. Made the pictures come out dark too (see pictures for reference) The food was amazing! I loved the guac we ordered for appetizers. Nachos were okay, I have had better. The entrees both were good, flavorful and good portions. They served the rice/beans in tortilla cups so more food to eat! (Not that we finished it all) I took off 1 star because the service was really slow. It took them 45 minutes to give us just appetizers and another maybe 50 minutes for the entrees. We waited for quite some time for the food!! Also their fountain drinks are flat. Just order something bottled instead! When we went they were out of stock on most of the advertised bottled drinks.“
“The staff here are spectacular. By far the cleanest Qdoba I’ve been to and the food always looks fresh and they don’t skimp out on everything. Compared to Chipotle in town this is 20x better. It’s great coming in for lunch and seeing the same smiling staff members who always make sure you get what you want and more!“
“Sabores Mexicanos is an exceptional Mexican restaurant located in Manville, NJ. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu is a treasure trove of authentic Mexican flavors, offering a wide variety of dishes to suit every palate.“
“Very good Mexican and Latin cuisine restaurant in Bernardsville. We either eat or order from there all the time. It's a breath of fresh air in a town dominated by countless Italian restaurants. Good food, relatively decent prices, free parking in the back, and casual atmosphere. The braised short rib enchiladas with mole sauce and the Shrimp a la Diabla are the best. Our kids love the fajitas.Parking: The parking is shared with other businesses, but we typically always find a spot.“
“Wow. Finally. GOOD FOOD that can be taken to go. I’m beyond relieved I don’t have to endlessly search for other food options that aren’t fried or fast food. Even chick fil a is falling off these days.If you’re tired of the same old generic garbage fast food, then please take a shot on this Mexican food.I ordered the chicken fajita to go with a pineapple Mexican soda they had there. It was alllll delicious ?came with a house salad as well, and the staff were very kind and respectful. This spot is right next to a panera, wingstop, even a movie theatre, right off of 22.“
