This place knows how to highlight fresh seafoods in their raw tapas without overpowering their delicate natural flavors, and their house cocktails all have a maritime flavor profile that pairs well with seafood regardless of your choice. The atmosphere is charming as they repurposed the old architecture really well, and it is a perfect date night spot. We will definitely come back to this place in the future!“

“We had excellent service on Canada Day 2024 with our friendly waitress Pal. She was very helpful and kept checking on our party of 12 ages from 3 to 80, to make sure everyone had what they wanted. She put treats on the Robot and had the children go get their treats off the tray on it, which was a highlight for them. We could tell she enjoys waitressing because she does it to perfection. The food was delicious and plated appetizingly, too!“

“This is a more upscale restaurant and reservations are encouraged. First off the service was impeccable and the ambiance quite nice, including the dishware. As for the food: we were 4 people and 3/4 had amazing meals. They were accommodating of all our dietary restrictions, both celiac and allergies. One of us ordered the steak which came out cold but they immediately replaced it. Even the second time the steak wasn't quite the cuisson ordered but at least it was warm. “I’ve eaten here twice and both experiences were absolutely incredible. The dishes are so beautifully and thoughtfully composed. Ingredients are second to none. The kitchen’s attention to detail, execution, timing of courses and overall quality is truly impressive and so appreciated. Service has been delightful. Both servers were the same both times and just as kind, welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu, drinks, wine and describe the dishes perfectly every time. Halifax is lucky to have this incredible gem of a restaurant. The Ostrich Club would stand up beside some of the best restaurants in every major Canadian city. “This was actually my first time having Ramen that didn't come out of a package from the supermarket and it was amazing. The pork was so tender and a little sweet. The broth was incredible. We had the crispy chicken to start and I loved the pickled daikon so much they let me buy a container of it. Our waitress (I am sure I'm not spelling her name right but I think it was Shengshen) was so kind, cheerful and pleasant. I cannot wait to go back.“

“4 out of 5, would of been 5, however, the wonton soup recipe changed a few months ago, it is now a lot sweeter. Not a huge fan of this change, much preferred the savoury broth with loads of vegetables. Service and atmosphere are impeccable.“

“We stopped in at The Wooden Monkey while travelling from Calgary & Vancouver last weekend and had an incredible experience. Even without a reservation, we were seated right away and warmly welcomed.
The whole team was great, but Hannah truly stood out—friendly, funny, knowledgeable and so genuine. She brought the whole farm-to-table concept to life with such passion.
The food was outstanding so flavourful and thoughtfully crafted—especially the kale Caesar, lamb ravioli, and seafood pasta. As Italians we were surprised by their take on bruschetta but it was a delicious and creative rendition on their house made focaccia. If only we lived closer so we could come back regularly.
