I don’t normally eat outside fried chicken but I decided to give it try with rice & peas with oxtail gravy, callaloo. I enjoyed the meal for 2 days. Even my friend who ordered oxtail, she was raving about it as well. She said, “I should’ve ordered 3 more meals.” I’ll be returning there very soon with another friend who likes authentic Jamaican food. 🍱 However, improvement is needed via the phone line, it can be quite challenging.”

“This holy cow burger location is a really special one and it stands out from the other ones. The service is a 10 i asked them for extra sauce and they were so happy to provide it. The food itself was AMAZING, fresh quality the buns were toasted everything was fresh and hot even the tenders and the fries were so yummy cant explain how good this location is Very happy with the atmosphere and will definitely come back again a must recommend !!!”

“Ripe is truly a hidden gem in Mount Vernon. The food is consistently good, but the steak is absolutely phenomenal, cooked to perfection every time. The mojitos are also some of the best I’ve had.

The service is excellent, and the staff makes you feel genuinely welcome from the moment you walk in. What I love most is the atmosphere: simple yet elegant, with the feeling of dining in a cozy home rather than a large restaurant. The photos of back home on the walls add warmth and character, creating a sense of nostalgia and community.

As someone from the Caribbean, I especially appreciate being surrounded by people who feel familiar and share a similar culture. It’s a comfortable place to relax, enjoy great food, and feel at home. Highly recommend!”

“I drive past this place often and decided to give it a try. The callaloo was very good and fresh. I'm used to having it prepared with saltfish, so a side of saltfish was added to the order. Mixed together the saltfish overpowered the callaloo. I now understand why they do not cook the saltfish and callaloo together. The ackee was prepared with saltfish and was good, but a little too salty for me. They give generous portions and lots of yam, banana, boiled dumplings, and plantains. The side order of fried dumplings was very sweet. The server was nice and patient. If you're in the area and craving Jamaican breakfast, this is a good place. I'll be back and look forward to trying dinner options.”

“I visited this place twice and enjoyed the food on both occasions. On my first visit, I had the rice and peas and jerk chicken, which was solid. On my second visit, I tried the rice and peas and kingfish, which was also good. However, the price of the kingfish seemed a bit high for the portion size.

Macaroni looks appealing, but it wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Dumplings are good.

“We decided to return to this lounge for the second time because we enjoyed the first visit.This visit different but mostly fun nonetheless.We sat for maybe 5-10 minutes because the bartender finished her conversation to attend to us.During those 5-10 minutes we enjoyed the Karaoke that was two rum punches which was a whopping $30.That threw me off a bit because on our first visit we order 6 drinks total for $50.Anyway, the rum punches were good, one was STRONG, the other was sweet but you could still taste the liquor.We were then greeted by a second bartender who was more pleasant than the first and more welcoming.She asked questions and checked on us to make sure we were okay.The dj was good but you can tell he’s old school which is fine because the car attracts crowds off all ages.The regulars there participating in the karaoke had great voices, especially the men.I asked about a food menu but was told that the kitchen was closed, this was about 11:30pm Friday night.They recommended a food truck that was parked next to the building that was affiliated with the lounge.The bathroom was very clean and well kept.

“These are larger than normal sized slices! Don't let the first glance fool you. They're thin and crispy and another review said they're not as salty or greasy as other places and I 100% agree. Our chicken calzone was HUGE but perhaps John thought we didn't have enough food. The chicken wasn't flavorful but the marinara that came on the side was real nice. John and his daughter-in-law (?) were so attentive - extra napkins and forks for the kids, offered to rewrap our calzone to go, some little candies to go. As for ambience, you're not coming in here for that but with 2 kids, you don't need that. But if you're looking for the nostalgic pizzerias from back in the day, this is it. Just missing an arcade system. Also heads up, cash only.”

“I have been doing my self care Fridays dining using my Jetblue dining recommendations and this was the next restaurant in line. It was well worth the time and effort to go there. I had the fried calamari and the seafood rice. Both were very well done. I ordered takeout and spent the journey debating if I had a spoon or fork in my bag because the smell was so tantalizing. The portions are very large and could easily feed 3 people. The food was very good and I would definitely go back.”

“I finally came here after years of hearing about this place and trying many different options from places in New Rochelle all the way to Nyack. Although the atmosphere is minimal the food is delicious and plentiful. I felt as if I was picking up plates of soul food from my church ladies with the gospel music playing which I did not mind.

I ordered three dinners we tried the fried chicken, collards, yams and one order of mac and cheese that was a mistake we should have gotten more and order of peach cobbler. As my daughter described it she felt like eating this food was like getting a hug from a grandma! None of the food is overly seasoned which my husband and I prefer but seems to be the common mistake a lot of soul food locations are making.

There is a detour near the location which makes parking a little bit of a challenge however, that will not stop me from returning.”

“Came here on Wednesday night and I WAS SOOOOOOO IMPRESSED! First, everything is so clean and well organized! We had a party of 7 without a reservation and we were nervous that we wouldn’t be able to get our table. The manager was super accommodating and made room for our party despite already being packed. We were sat right away and service was quick to attend us. We all ordered drinks right away that were nicely garnished and the drinks were all freshly made (no pre-made mixers). We ordered the strawberry flavored hookah and were very pleased with the quality of the hookah and how attentive the hookah boy was. Our food came out fairly fast. I ordered the seafood platter and had 0 complaints, the amount of food for the price was a total surprise! Living in Miami I am used to the large price for a small amount of food. This was not the case! The flavor was very good! They obviously have a server that knows exactly what he is doing. This is my new favorite place and will be back soon!”
