While I wouldn't agree that this is the 'best in town,' they offer really good, reasonably priced sandwiches that are interesting for sure. The vegetarian is a bit richer and denser than most in downtown Toronto, probably due to the tomato sauce and cooked onions which are quite good. I'll amost always pick one up if I'm in the area.
This charming family-owned Vietnamese grocery and banh mi shop is an absolute treasure. I've been on the hunt for a classic cold cuts banh mi since arriving in Toronto, but have been disappointed by what's available in Spadina and Downtown. This one, however, is the real deal, with generously sliced meats, zesty pickled radish and carrots, homemade pate and butter, and fresh chili to add a kick. A family-owned business, and I found the owner to be a very nice lady. My family comes here to buy banh mi from time to time and we all enjoy it. They also sell some Vietnamese treats if you get cravings. :)
