“Our server was very nice and pleasant. It's a very busy place, and tables are quite close together. So it's a bit noisy. But not uncomfortable. Food was okay. The beef tartare was very good. Mains are small, decent enough but unspectacular. The burgers are the size of sliders. Fries were soggy. Desserts are crazy expensive, $20 for a small slice of opera cake. Granted it was good, but way over-priced. Not really in a hurry to go back, unless someone else is paying.”

Margaritas were amazing (not on menu but it is a Mexican restaurant). The ceviche was so good we ordered a second one. I never order pork at restaurants and rarely eat it - but it was amazing. “Tasty food, awesome atmosphere, smallish portions.Ordered bunch of dishes to share.Appetizers. Ackee & saltfish bites were quite delicious, but the fritters didn’t really taste like anything other than plain fried dough.Mains. Jerk chicken was very good, perfect level of spicy. Oxtail was super tender, melt in your mouth, rice and peas were also great. Curry goat was good, but not particularly special. Pan seared snapper fillet was the HIGHLIGHT of the night, big flaky pieces of flesh, sauce was so nice and creamy, vegetables and other toppings paired great.Overall fun and tasty experience. Although I understand why they include 20% gratuity for larger groups, I just personally don’t think a party of 6 was big enough to demand a surcharge.”

But they did offer a pasta that is dried from the sea breeze with the natural salt from the water / wind making a profound difference in the texture and flavour. Definitely worth the experience overall and the a la carte menu has great options for a great price.Great wine and caviar menus.Jeff the manager is the best!!!!Make sure you get a photo in the washroom with the window of the city as your backdrop ?”

The parsnip & carrot sides to the venison were wonderful. The rye spaetzle side with the boar chop was the only down note for me, which I found to be bland and an unusual texture pairing. We enjoyed three of the desserts on offer, of which the maple budino was the stand out. “Planta, the vegan restaurant, exceeded all expectations during my recent dining experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that perfectly complemented the restaurant’s commitment to sustainability and plant-based cuisine. The menu at Planta is a true masterpiece, offering a wide array of innovative and flavorful dishes that cater to both vegans and non-vegans alike. The creativity and attention to detail in each dish are truly commendable. I started with their zesty avocado tartare, which was a burst of fresh flavors that left my taste buds. What truly sets Planta apart, though, is their commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. Knowing that every ingredient on my plate was not only delicious but also environmentally conscious added an extra layer of satisfaction to my meal. The service at Planta was exceptional, with knowledgeable staff who were happy to answer any questions about the menu and offer recommendations. 505 College St, Toronto

“Bar Raval is a vibrant restaurant bar on College Street designed by the architectural firm Partisans. The design is a modern interpretation of Spanish Art Nouveau, while paying homage to the pintxo, the traditional tapas bars from northern Spain. Carefully cut from sculpted mahogany wood, the space was inspired by Gaudi’s biomimicry. The sinuous forms within Raval encourage mingling, keeping in the same spirit as Spain’s jovial pintxos. The nearly all day Raval is open from 11am until 1am, but my favorite time to visit is before sunset to witness the transition from a naturally lit art piece to a more dramatic look after dark.Bar Raval’s tapas game is strong, with delectable sharing plates like manchego, Catalan sobrassada, and marinated octopus. For drinks, bartender Elise Hanson has got you covered. The talented Elise, who recently won Bombay’s Most Imaginative Bartender, made me Raval’s iconic Bishop’s Garibaldi with Campari, fluffy orange juice, cinnamon, guajillo and pasilla pepper and nutmeg as well as her favorite (and mine too): White port and house tonic, perhaps the perfect low ABV concoction.”

We ordered the last one of the day, so it's possible if you order close to the late hour, they may not have food, so keep that in mind. The flavor was delicious and was very filling. It's 4 slices, about 5"x4" and thick! Prices were reasonable I guess, but def worth it. They have some cool and unique flavors as well. I'd recommend.Parking: Busy street parking with trolly. Better off finding some on the surrounding blocks.”

Although busy, we got the chance to speak with them both and we also personally thanked chef Masayuki after the meal. Thank you for a wonderful experience. “There are many fine sushi restaurants in the GTA and Kibo is a franchise chain, but it consistently delivers. Temper expectations to good sushi and maki at reasonable prices and it is worthy of a pretty solid review. Does it stand up to singular and dedicated sushi chefs? There is a reason why we have so many Michelin-rated Japanese and sushi restaurants locally. So Kibo isn’t competing with those … but it’s still good.”

August 8 Chinatown 331 Spadina Ave., Toronto Sushi • $$
331 Spadina Ave., Toronto

“We definitely enjoyed our meal at August 8. The food was aesthetically pleasing, tasty, and properly prepared.I rated the service only 4 out of 5 stars because our table was often overlooked, and we didn't receive all of our first order until we had asked three different servers (20 minutes after the first part of our order was delivered to the table) if it had been forgotten. They also only give you 90 minutes to eat lunch, 90 minutes goes very quickly, especially because they control the time in which they bring out your meals. Therefore you're not getting quite the value of your money, and feel as though you have to dine quickly. The restaurant is very clean, as are the washrooms (in my experience, this is usually Telltale sign whether or not the kitchen would be clean!)There are tons of food options, and from what I saw on our plates, as well as other tables the food comes out fresh.I would definitely recommend this restaurant.Ps, don't let your eyes be too big for your belly. If you don't finish the food on your plate, they will charge you extra for it. Drinks are also an additional cost to the "all you can eat" mealWheelchair accessibility: I don't imagine this restaurant would be wheelchair accessible as the only bathrooms that I saw were in the basement. Otherwise, a wheelchair could come in to the restaurant, but the area is tight with tables.”

“If I could give service 10 stars I would. A friend and I went for dinner and our server was so sweet and attentive. Just one example of the excellent service we received: while we were sitting in the back covered patio, she noticed I put on a sweater. She immediately turned on the heaters and came over to let us know, in case I was feeling cold. It’s small moments like that, that really make you feel taken care of. My only regret is not leaving a bigger tip. I’ll definitely have to return and offer more next time.As for the atmosphere, the place was full and lively but didn’t feel overly crowded or loud. The space itself I would describe it as unpretentious but still felt refined. Finally, the food. We ended up getting a main AND an app of the beef tartare since it was so delicious, as well as the trout which was cooked beautifully. To be honest pretty much everything on the menu called out to us. We also got a salted chocolate mousse that we shared and it was a perfect way to end our meal. They also had a great offering of wines and drinks.Overall: fabulous staff, great food, lovely atmosphere.”
