10 Best Ice Cream Shops in Erie

The Freezerie Ice Cream Shop • $
4393 W Ridge Rd #1460, Erie

“This is definitely another one of Erie's hidden gemsI've discovered this local spot last summer, when I was disappointed with other places for not getting my order right, repeatedly. This tiny icecream shop is owned by 2 lovely owners, Kang & Gary Garnic. They offer homemade ice cream along with various flavor options for Dairy-free/ Gluten-free people as well. I have not had any flavors that I do not like yet, though my favorite is their "Sea salt" ice cream, a nice vanilla ice cream with a little twist of salty taste that is just perfect not to mention the blue color that makes it instagram-worthy).I love their subtly sweet taste that does not scream "There is a bunch of sugar added in here". and it leaves you wanting more after you finish your scoop. There are a couple of tables inside the shop as well as on their small patio. There is parking onsite, though I believe it can be a little challenging if you come on a hot day where everyone else also wants ice cream.I am so glad they are here. Definitely one more reason to love Erie❤️“

Mad Millz Ice Cream Shop • $
443 W 8th St, Erie

“I was here a few times when it was Fat Lenny's and I happened to be next door and was surprised to see it open. And so I treated myself to some rolled ice cream! The price is fair and the ice cream is pretty darn good. I quite enjoy it and will have to return there soon for another. I'm hankering for some Oreo Cookies & Ice Cream and assume they have this. They make the rolled ice cream in front of you and have a large selection of toppings. They also sell some food there which I don't believe happened when it was Fat Lenny's. If you want some solid ice cream in Erie then hit up Mad Millz.“

“This is for the West Gore location. I had the Swedish Fish/Cheesecake Misto shake and it was fantastic! There's plenty of options for a cold treat. The staff here was extraordinarily kind and helpful and knew the menu very well. Parking here isn't great but that's my only criticism. Hope you Enjoy!“

“Overall a good experience and fast service. The amount of toppings on the peanut butter sundae could have been a bit more, but the amount of toppings on the dirt sundae were very generous.Would do again for sure if the opportunity presents itself.“

“Always love coming over to Denny’s ice cream stand. It’s nice. This place is still in business after all these years. The younger employees are always polite. And the prices I feel like are better than cream land on the west side. Which I’ve always been a huge fan of that place anymore. It seems like their prices have went up a lot plus you hardly get any portion anymore. Believe me, ppl notice these things That’s OK yeah it’s more yogurt ice cream so it’s not like consistency like blueberry cheesecake, ice cream chunk. It’s also really nice they do a pup cup for Doggos. Be sure to tip the young employees if you can! Only suggestion is maybe I wish they did a punchcard such as buy 15 ice creams and get one free or something. That would help out the impoverished families a bit for fun. I also understand the reviews that say the place is sketchy. I mean. It’s parade street and Erie. But so far we’ve been fine. I could see homeless people starting something or even some trouble breaking out. I’m not sure how they would minimize this. Just keep a family vibe and environment as much as you can. Thanks“

“My husband & I have been eating dinner on a Saturday night at this location since they opened. Staff is wonderful we have made a few friends along the way. Food is not always consistent. I only get 2 different meals & sometimes it's good and sometimes it's done wrong even though I state clearly what I want. Overlooking that, we have been fairly happy with the meals. Since they reopened Saturday evenings we just went back last night. Unfortunately, our bill was 15% higher than before. Our bill was 7$ higher than our average bills a few months ago. We can go many other places for that price instead of a cafe'. Really disappointed in the new prices.“

Whippy Dip Ice Cream Shop • $
2527 Chestnut St, Erie

“Love Whippy Dip OG & 2. They are Erie staples every summer. Their portions are on the larger size, which is never a bad thing with ice cream, and there are many different options to choose from, soft serve, sundaes, milkshakes... all good. Their known for their Blue Moon flavor softserve. I would easily give it 5 stars, but the wait time might be a smidge longer than you expect, but should not stop you from going. Check them out!!!“

The Ice Cream Shoppe Ice Cream Shop • $

“Fast service; nice, patient employees. My son has sensory issues and it can take him a small eternity to decide on a flavor of ice cream, and we've never felt rushed or had an employee get impatient with us, which sounds funny, but means a lot to us“

“Sara's is the true hot spot on the peninsula on Lake Erie. Pretty much everyone who goes by Sara's heading to one of the beaches or on the way back....you have to stop at Sara's. The atmosphere is hopping but service is constantly moving so it doesn't take long to get your order placed or served. There is food and lots of ice creams and milkshakes, etc. Delicious! The decor is all retro so you feel like you stepped back in time which adds to this fun experience. Make sure Sara's is in your bucket list or better yet make it a regular stop each time you visit the peninsula on Lake Erie!“
