“My family used to call this bakery “The Crabby Woman Bakery” back in the 1980s. That’s because at least one the regular women who worked behind the counter was unusually crabby. I used to ask my parents to pick up a birthday cake that I had ordered ( or for whatever occasion) and I would cook the dinner for my extended family. My dad would arrive with the cake, but he always seemed a little unhappy. One day, I asked him why. He told me “whenever you send me to that bakery, I always tell the woman behind the counter that I am picking up a cake that my daughter ordered. I give the woman your last name…..she becomes irritated and asks “I need to know the size of the cake and the cake and icing flavors”. When he admitted that the only thing he knew was the last name, the woman would become very annoyed. This should be a short pit stop always turned into a very long process. The bakery woman would always figure out which cake was mine but it took a lot of time and many questions. Eventually, my dad changed the bakery name to “The Crabby Woman Bakery” and that’s what my family ( and friends) called it for the Emanuel years. The baked goods are all AWESOME. Especially the sour cream cookies and strawberr6 shortcake!“

Should have stuck with Dunkin Donuts bc after eating an everything bagel w/cream cheese from there, I’m addicted. “The man working behind the counter today was a KING. My friend and I stopped by for the first time and it was really close to closing. I was expecting to just kinda get in, fuel my sugar addiction, and leave. But this guy was LITERALLY. SO. NICE. “Had an amazing experience for our child's birthday party. We reserved the playroom for our 3 year old and his 8 friends plus parents and some babies. The kids (ages 1-4) all had a blast in the play area which had a playground, lots of toys, and endless entertainment for the entirety of the party. They could have played there all night! There was plenty of room for all of the kids to sit and eat at a table and for the adults to relax and mingle. There was also plenty of room for us to setup food, beverages, and coolers in addition to what the bakery provided (pizza, juice, cupcakes). The staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating! “I can't say enough good things about Meg and her work! She was absolutely fabulous to work with for my geeky 1950’s wedding. She was sweet, professional, and up to whatever challenge I could throw at her. From start to finish she was amazing to work with, our trial was delicious and we spent months anticipating getting to taste the amazing cake again. On our wedding day I was so excited to see our Doctor Who themed cake and cup cakes, it was more then I could have ever imagined it to be. All night people commented on the design of the cake, and once it was cut people commented on the taste. I am so glad I was able to save a few cup cakes to take home, I’m not sure we would make it a year to taste the cake again. “Great, old time ice cream place. This would be the perfect spot to visit after a baseball game!I took my kids for an ice cream on a lazy Sunday afternoon this summer. The place was packed! However, the line moved fast.My younger son ordered the mint chocolate chip ice cream and my older son tried the moose tracks. (I took a taste of both)The mint chocolate chip was so delicious, it reminded me of ice cream I got from a little candy shop up in Northern Wisconsin when I was a kid. My older son said that their moose tracks was the best he's ever had.We will definitely go back!Only wish they had some gluten free cones or cookies.“

“We orderd a very large quantity of heart shaped soft pretzels to give to out of towners staying in Philadelphia for a wedding. It was easy to place the order, the cost was reasonable, the pretzels were ready for pickup as scheduled (and they even offered advice on how to freeze them to keep them fresh for our guests), and most importantly, they tasted exactly the way Philly soft pretzels are supposed to taste. “Frozen pastries? I've been coming to Le Petit Mitron since Rick Nichols wrote his 2001 review praising them to the skies and I can vouch for the fact that they, too, froze their pastries. I can also vouch for the fact that Angela and Andrew have made spectacular use of the baton Patrick and Isabelle passed to them, adding canneles to the mix. I can also vouch for the fact that their pastries (like LPM's) freeze well. I buy in bulk and always buy over 100 dollars worth on every visit, as many pastries as will fit in my freezer. If it's a nice day I'll have a few to eat outside with my daughter with a cup of their excellent Herman's coffee.“

“We had walked pretty much all the way through Reading Terminal when we came upon this bakery. As we love sourdough bread, we reached for a loaf, and as we were searching, we couldn't help but find several other items that tempted our tastebuds. We did purchase a loaf of sourdough ($6.99) which we found to be very tasty but maybe a little denser than we like for sandwiches. It has made very nice toast in the mornings. We also could not resist the loaves of orange-cranberry and cinnamon breads ($7.25 ea.). They were both very tasty and moist. In fact, because we had purchased so many goodies, I was afraid the cinnamon loaf might spoil before we could consume it and so I froze it. After thawing, it was just as good as the orange-cranberry! We actually resisted all the donuts, but I think next time we are in Philadelphia and the Reading Terminal, I'm sure we will indulge.“

“My mother & I came here for breakfast while we were waiting for my chinchilla to have a procedure done at the vet close by. Wow! We both had the Waldorf salad. I had mine on sourdough bread & she hers on a bed of lettuce with the tarragon chicken salad as well. Absolutely amazing. The chai latte was also great. I did not catch the barista’s name, but she was very helpful and friendly as well. All around great experience at the elegance cafe!“
