“My wife and I went to Sovana on reccomend from the folks at Phillips Mushroom Farm. We are very glad we took did! From the semi-twin ladies opening the doors for us, to the fun atmosphere, to the great food. They compt' my wife's dessert 'cause it was her birthday and made a GREAT Bloody Mary! But even better than all of that was our server, Racquel T. She was fantastic! She was very friendly, made us feel right at home, was chatty but didn't waste time, she knew the menu very well, even though she said she was relatively new. Absolutely delightful...the kind of personality that makes you want to come back. Thank you all for a wonderful time. John G.“

“Had a great dinner here while visiting the DuPont properties. Everything we had was fabulous. Presentation was lovely especially with edible flower petals etc. The thyme whip cream on the lemon ricotta cake was a pleasant amazing surprise!Vegetarian options: Mushroom meatballs, vegetarian pasta option, lots of vegetarian small platesDietary restrictions: Vegetarian, Vegan, GF markings on menu make it easy to order.“

“I’ve been to the whip twice and enjoyed it both times. It was well worth the 45 minute trip from Wilmington De. The scenery along route 82 is incredible and the food and atmosphere are great. I can’t wait to return when it’s warm enough to sit on the patio.“

“The long wait for our reservations was well worth it! Everything was fresh and beautifully prepared and presented. Service was 5 Stars! It was such a nice contrast to the noisy, generic eateries with ubiquitous TV screens. It provided a relaxing environment to have meaningful conversations. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.“

“I love the comic art on the walls. Bonus to the awesome staff in accommodating for handicap needs. Forgot to mention we loved the hummus appetizer. The portions were HUGE! Was not expecting that. BBQ mac and cheese and the green goddess sandwich hit the spot. Thumbs up to the kombucha.“

“Nice atmosphere in between the Harley Davidson drivers craving attention like loud teenagers on State Street. Portions are meager and you’d think pasta wasn’t a dollar per pound. I figured I’d play it safe and order the most expensive seafood/pasta entree on the menu, but it was mediocre. Should have ordered the chicken parm. You know something is wrong when you’re given a roll and pungent humus in an “Italian” restaurant. Then you have to ask for salt and pepper, then ask for butter, and ask and ask and ask and some of the servers act like they’re doing you a favor. There’s little value here.“

“I went with my group on a Thursday which was a very light evening which allowed my group to enjoy our whole dining experience. Our server had time to explain the menu and make recommendation to our group that included a 4 year old. Why is this relevant? Because, she gave her the same respectful service as she did the adults. Thank you. Now let's get to the food. I had the Chicken Picatta. I had to take the picture because at the first bite I new it was about to be destroyed. I left nothing on the plate. The Impossible Sloppy for those who need a vegan option also got a thumbs up. The food comes out hot hot! No one complained! I will be back the next time I am in Delaware.“

“The Back Burner has a gem in Patty. The food is always dependable, and the wine list is surprisingly reasonable for some good quality wines. I think all of these things contribute to the restaurant's staying power in Hockessin.“

“Went for Easter brunch. Excellent Bloody Marys! Just the right amount of spice. Creole Crab Mac and Cheese was outrageous. Again just the right amount of heat. Wife had Avocado Toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. Again excellent. Our server Hussain was excellent. Pleasant but not hovering. A great experience. Highly recommend!“

“Absolutely love the outdoor seating area. The restaurant is dog-friendly too! We ordered some fried pickles, a breakfast platter and a crab cake sandwich. Food was pretty good and service was prompt and attentive. We like the fact that the restaurant is just before the busy part of Main Street of UD.“

“The manager was extremely kind and helpful. We arrived very late and the kitchen was closed but he offered us a few pizza options and we were more than grateful!! Pizza was delicious and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu and really appreciate how customer friendly everyone was.“

“Our attentive waitress made the visit very enjoyable. Drinks came out quickly. Food was good, no complaints from anyone in our party. Portions were good for the price we paid.A bit noisy inside even at lunch time but not overbearing.A nice place to have lunch with friends and catch up on old times.“

Our food was hot, tasty and brought out at the same time for our large party. We also visited on a Thursday which is a busy night on college campus but the restaurant was able to accommodate us all.“

“They were very busy, and the waitress let us know that, and that was absolutely fine. The food was some of the most bland I've ever had at a restaurant. My sister had to add salt, SALT, to her roasted beet salad because it was so lacking in flavor. The roasted pears weren't even cooked all the way, the pistachios on it were overcooked, the Brie was thin and mostly the outside shell with very little taste, and the bread slices were completely burned. The crab cake on the sandwich was tiny, and ice cold in the middle. The turkey apple grilled cheese was not even cooked all the way. The turkey and apple were as cold as ice, and the cheese wasn't even melted. I sent it back to be cooked better, and it came back the exact same temperature. I asked to speak to a manager, and they just took my meal off the bill and didn't even offer to compensate or do it better. The chef is a lazy person and needs to be put in line. someone call in Gordon Ramsay please!“
