“Walking in here is like walking back in time. It's a super cozy restaurant, kind of like the feel of Grandma's house. Food...AMAZING. One price for an entree included soup, salad, entree and dessert. Portions are generous. My Delmonico steak was perfectly cooked, the onion soup was very rich and flavorful, and the strawberry shortcake was homemade and the perfect ending to my delicious dinner. Service was super friendly and attentive. It does get busy on the weekends, so be sure to make a reservation if that is when you are planning to visit. And trust me...you want to visit!“

“Prices were a little high compared to most smaller bars I’ve been at. Bartender was a bit slower than I’m used to for service but she was super sweet. Good variety of Skill Machines and redemption machine, which was nice. Street parking only, little hard to find a spot. Pool table could be kept up a bit better but it was alright.“

“First visit back here in quite awhile. Place has been here in Luzerne a long time. Food was great as was the service. Menu is very large. Lots of options from bar food, entrees and pizza along with apps and great salads. Old school bar with great bartenders who know what they’re doing. Chicken cheesesteak pictured. Great time!“

“My review is nearly 50 years late, but I have fond memories of eating here as a young child on our biennial trips to the Hanover section of Nanticoke to visit my grandmother who lived across Espy Street from Ruby's Inn. I vaguely recall a bar a door or two down where we used to get steamed, spicy blue crabs, too. Also, a great place for kielbasa (Swantko's on Pine St?) that closed down around 2005 after 80 years in business shortly after I had them ship a box to my father for his 80th birthday. Then there were the candy stores on Front St we used to walk to; both started with a "P" if memory serves. And the hikes up the mountain to the reservoir, eating wild berries on the way. Does the horn at the old firehouse across the street from Ruby's still blow every night? I really need to plan a trip back to Ruby's to bring back all these good childhood memories through their pizza! Maybe I'll finally get to see Concrete City, too!“

“This is our second time here — although the first time was just “the vault”. Our first experience was not good, but it was years ago. So we tried it again with our friends along as Guinea pigs. We were pleasantly surprised. Our server was kind. The pizzas from the oven were actually outstanding (we had three different kinds on the table, and all enjoyed quite a bit). I had a short rib grilled cheese. What I got was unexpected. There was a TON of meat and a little cheese. I may have used more cheese and less beef. The beef was good, though. It was well cooked and seasoned. We got some appetizers (calamari was a bit under seasoned but cooked well and the breading was appropriately crunchy). The Brussel sprouts app is very good and also recommended. We also had a chicken quesadilla (it was good. Nothing outstanding) and a truffle burger which my teenager said was “ok” whatever that means. We were warned that the pizzas come out when they come out (stone pizza oven). So they came out way before the entrees for the other guests. The kitchen food did take a while to come out. The wait staff was apologetic. So maybe it was atypical. No big deal. We were visiting with friends and the bourbon and blood cocktail was very tasty. We are pretty picky with our food, but I was happy that our second experience was much improved. Perhaps there's different management. We will likely be back — at the very least for the pizza, which is worth the trip by themselves.“

“I had booked a party with Pam at Broadway! She was super professional and super helpful. I paid for my party in full, and the next day due to unforseen circumstances. we needed to cancel. she returned our entire payment no questions asked! would definitely deal with them again!“

“Can't pass up a Irish Bar and glad I gave Maddy's a try. The Budweiser bottles were ice cold The bartender and people at bar were very friendly. And there's a awesome huge pool table. I had a great time there. Very nice fun friendly atmosphere“

“Went for lunch on Father's day and didn't have to wait for a table at the bar, which was fine because my Dad and brother loved playing the games while waiting for our food. I ordered the turkey wrap and it was gigantic! I asked for everything on it and they sure did! The wrap was grilled to a pleasant crisp so it didn't get soggy. A large pile of hot fries and a pickle came with it. My Dad ordered a pizza as usual and it was perfectly done. Our bill was reasonable and our waitress was friendly and made sure we were happy. Glad we chose Checkerboard for my disabled Father's special day. Thank you :)“

“So was recommended by lisa at the pilot. Definitely grateful she did tell me to go here instead of miller ale house. Called, asked if they had Bears game trixie (hope i spelled it right) politely told me they have every game. I asked for nachos jokingly and of course they had. So i parked just my tractor across the street. Plenty of room. I and of course ordered nachos, ordered the small. Omg it was huge and delicious. Way too much lol The bar has lots of locals and everyone is beyond nice and very approachable. I had fun bantering there teams as they did with me. I felt very at home and as if I became part of the community. Of course i had beer , cold and refreshing. Ordered some chicken wings and wow. Cooked right, tasted delicious. Food is all fresh from what i ordered and good Bathroom was super clean I highly recommend and your probably going to have fun. Met the owner , what a guy. If you want a good time and good food this is the spot . I will be back when indrive thru again. Thanks everyone for making me feel beyond welcome“

“We were a party of 6 . Everyone agreed-food was excellent! Everything we got was fantastic!! Service was outstanding!! There were at least 3 girls at our table making sure everyone had what they needed. Sarah ; our main waitress was the most upbeat, happy person you could meet. “My wife and I stopped in over the weekend and enjoyed it. Kester's is a great local bar. It's been around forever and never changes, and that's a good thing. They have a full bar up front and a large room with tables in the back. There is a patio and a few tables in the rear outside. They serve shots, mixed drinks and beer and they have snacks like chips etc. The bartender is very friendly. It's very clean including the restrooms. It is a smoking bar. They have off street parking. The prices are very fair.“
