“If you are looking for a larger Indian restaurant with a hostess, fancy decor, and some scheduled belly dancing for entertainment, this is not it. If you are seeking really well prepared, authentic Indian food, in a cozy neighborhood spot, then this is the place you seek.I've seen this place when it first opened. I remember making a mental note to go in then just kept forgetting about it. Well, seeing that it still exists about 3 years later, I was convinced there is something special about it so this time, I headed in.Chennai Express is hands down, the best Indian restaurant in RI. Step into the small spot for ordering to-go or dining in, and your nose will be treated to the fragrant, mouthwatering aroma of dishes being prepared in the kitchen. I walked in and sat down on an empty table to peruse the menu for a to-go order. It was a challenge picking which dish to order as the menu presented a host of delicious options--from the more popular Indian dishes, to very authentic sounding appetizers and entrees. I wanted them all. Ultimately, I decided on Shrimp Biryani, Butter Chicken, and Nellore Fish Curry. These did not disappoint at all. The rice and chicken were not dry and the sauce were so flavorful. While waiting for my order, I have witnessed how busy Chennai is for take out. There's a quick cycle of pick up orders on the counter. A small group sat occupied two of the four 4-seater tables. I cannot help but look at their orders, taking note of the dishes for my next visit (yes, I was already planning coming back even before getting my order).Tip: Bring some cash so you avoid paying a surcharge. They take Venmo, too.I get home and excitedly open my package...mmm...worth the wait. Chennai Express is the real deal.“
“This was my first time visiting and I was really impressed. My bowl was delicious. The employees were helpful in selecting the items for the bowl and answering any questions I had. They offer bowls, wraps, salads, and tacos. They also have samosas, chips with hummus, and a variety of gourmet drinks. There is some seating inside and 15 minute parking is offered.“
“When it comes to Indian food, I'm a bit of a snob. I've had the good fortune to travel all over the world-sans India unfortunately- but have always sought out Indian restaurants- Be it NYC, Boston, Chicago, London, Amsterdam...and so on. Rasa can hold its own against any Indian restaurant. I am blessed that this fine eating establishment is only 5 minutes from my house, so they know me well there. Between taking many friends and visitors to dine in-house to my countless take-out orders over the years, I can attest that I've never had a bad meal here. Though I did make the mistake of asking for extra spicy on my selections once and discovered that this level of spice is a bit much for me and my family. Bear in mind that I love spicy food but the extra spicy at Rasa is for fire eating patrons. We usually get a couple of order of Vegetable Samosas which come with an onion relish, a brown sweet sauce and a green sauce. Then we almost always get a couple orders of Cauliflower 65. When dining in-house we often get the mussels and ask for naan to dip into the delicious broth it comes with. We've tried most of the main dishes, though I do love their mix grill and their lamb curry. The bottom-line is that you simply cannot miss here. Outstanding and speedy service and always with a smile. Tried this place as I believe they serve the best Indian food in the state. Salud!“
“Came here for weekend buffet. Loved the food, the atmosphere and the new management. Goat curry was out of this world. Chicken biriyani and Dessert was too good as well. Loved the food so much placed a carry out order for a small get together at our place the following day.“
“The absolute best Indian food in Rhode Island. We tried every Indian restaurant since moving here from California 2 years ago where Indian restaurants are plentiful. The service is excellent and the food is absolutely fantastic. I recommend everything they make. The food is fresh and flavorful. My faves are the tandoori chicken, veggie briyani, mango chicken and many more. The Naan is perfect. We've been eating here for two years and have never had a negative experience. Love this place. Try the chicken mushroom soup and thank me later.Vegetarian options: Excellent option for flavorful vegetarian dishes.“
“OMG!! Their lamb biriyani was so good. We ordered last night on uber eats. We came to providence to attend a conference and we 3 are from Bangladesh so we were looking for some biriyani. And we saw that this restaurant had good rating and we ordered goat, lamb and chicken biriyani. I had the lamb biriyani and it was just so perfect. The price is a bit higher but i was so satisfied with the food. I will definitely recommend other people to try this. 10/10 ?.“
“Delicious food, tasted super fresh and flavorful. Our party of 7 was very satisfied with the dishes we tried and the service and staff was great!! We ordered both types of Samosas, the vegetable and chicken momos, the bread basket, several main dishes and a few drinks. The mango with yogurt drink was delish too. Will definitely come again and recommend to friends and family. Picture of the kabap sampler (came in sizzling and delicious)“
“I came out of this place full and satisfied! Had some Saag, and samosas, filled with potatoes and peas along with come cauliflower 65 which is just chicken wings, but vegan! My saag was delicious and my friends enjoyed their chicken tiki masala and biryani, where we all took bites sharing~ the Biryani had kick, a bit spicy, but in my opinion mild~ mango lassi is always a must at Indian restaurant~ we were recommended some warm bread bites, soaked in a type of light sweet soup. We didn't catch the name, but it was a nice end to our already filling food. Server was funny, helpful, and gave us great recommendations, especially to my friends who were new to Indian food. Everything was chill for a Tuesday evening. Slow pace and peaceful. Bathroom was super nice, clean, and had plenty of mirrors space. Informative too because it had posters of their specials for the weekend. I am coming back to try those specials! Their ad placements helped“
“Delicious and fresh Pakistani & Afghani food! The naans were excellent and soft. The chicken karahi, butter chicken, and kabobs (both beef and chicken were all excellent). The kabuli was also very enjoyable. Decent amount of seating, including a carpeted floor seating spot! Friendly service. For more information on halal food in New England, follow us on instagram @newenglandhalaleats“
“Punjab is an awesome restaurant featuring Indian and Himalayan cuisine. The authentic food, decor, and reasonable prices makes this place a great spot for a meal. Punjab feels like a hole in the wall and is a great place to taste Indian food for the first time, or try something new!“
“My kiddo and I had a very lovely early dinner here after a day of shopping. I'd been here before but only for lunch. Dinner was exquisite! Easily the best vindaloo I've ever had, and I have been to a ton of NYC's best Indian restaurants. My kiddo had samosas and the malai kofta and loved it! We both walked out stuffed to the gills, and the sweet server even offered my kid a couple of chocolates. Love this place!“
“I visited on Sunday during the buffet and couldn't believe how many different foods were available. I chose to get the buffet to go and was presented with a large plate with about 10 sections so I was able to try a lot of different dishes. The food was absolutely delicious! I really enjoyed the usual tikka marsala choices but my very favorite dish was the ginger fish! I would go back just for the fish! Luckily with the buffet you will get to try over 20 different choices! Dessert was amazing and the people working there were extremely friendly and helpful! One of my new favorite spots for Indian food!“
“What a great place and attentive, efficient, smiling waitstaff! The menu is extensive and varied. We were a group of 23, and everyone loved the meals they chose. The prices are moderate, but the portions are large. Many of us brought home 1/2 of our meals. The Naan is extremely large and delicious, in numerous flavors. I highly recommend this lovely Indian restaurant!“
“The best items on their menu are undoubtedly the Chicken Biryani, Samosa Chaat, Chicken Karhai, and Kheer. The Samosa Chaat has the right blend of sweet and tangy which is very rare to find in most of US. Chicken Biryani is very authentic Indian/Pakistani type. The Kheer is to die for. I’ve been a regular customer for the last 3 years and the owner is also a really nice person. He remembers what I order and sometimes sends free samples too! :) it’s rare to find that these days.“
“I cannot even begin to emphasize how good the food is here! The absolute best indian food i've ever had! I went during the weekend buffet and the variety and authentic indian flavors are unmatched. such good food for such a good price!! the workers here are also very friendly and make sure you're well taken care of. the atmosphere here is also great!! I will definitely be back! 12/10 would definitely recommend!!“
“I had to pick up and order for doordash and asked what the drink was that came with the order...I was told it's mango lassie ( which ive never heard of but it looked deliciously creamy like a creamsicle) and was offered one for myself! I of course said thank you and gave it a try. My goodness I'm so glad I tried it! It's AMAZING!!! Think creamy and sweet without being "too much" subtle but fantastic! I guarantee this will be an all the time stop in for me! Can't wait to try the food!!!“
“Thank you, Chaska team!! We ordered several party trays this past weekend for an important family event! Despite the fact that we were without power due to the storm and expecting guests any minute.... we were able to serve hot delicious Indian food! Everyone at our party loved the food!! It was above and beyond! And we are still eating amazing leftovers!!! Thanks also for your attention to our dietary restrictions! We will be back soon!!!“
