“Amazing food! The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because the chips & salsa were lacking, & the rice didn’t have much flavor. The main dishes more than made up for that though. The drinks were on point & the food was delicious. We came after a Tech game, & it was definitely busy. We waited about 25 minutes which I thought was great for how busy they were. Once we ordered, the food came out so quick! Our party had quesabirria tacos, barbacoa, quesadillas, tacos, & enchiladas. The house margarita was just what I wanted, & my husband said the michelada was on his top 3. There wasn’t a bad dish.“

“My family has eaten at the Lubbock location many times. The food has always been delicious and the service excellent. Last night our server was Landon and I cannot even properly express how fantastic the service was. My whole family was impressed. We thought he was a waiter trained at a large city five star restaurant. We were incorrect. He became a server at a Country Club in Lubbock, left there and started at Abuelo's. The food was excellent as always and Landon is a superstar waiter!“

Had a lady up front where her only job is to make tortillas and she nails it. I can't wait to try some of the other items. The place was packed and thats when you know you should try it. “We stopped here last month when we were traveling through Lubbock; we were on our solar eclipse chasing adventure. We love supporting local, and these folks did not disappoint with their amazing Texas hospitality and their yummy food! We had cheeseburgers, bacon-wrapped hot dogs (definitely get the pico de gallo and jalapeno on top), corn in a cup - awesome stuff, and agua frescas, which they kept refilling! We finally had to tell them no more because we wouldn't have time to stop every five miles down the road to go to the bathroom. Anyway, aside from the great food, we can't say enough about the hospitality we received; it blew us away! We had been in the car for a while and really wanted to get out and stretch our legs. We would have been content at their outdoor picnic table, but it was SO WINDY that day, they cleared a table in the shop building and insisted we come inside out of the wind. How awesome was that?!?! Lastly, this place is so affordable! We wanted to sample a little bit of everything, so we were expecting to pay $60-$65 for all that we got for a family of four. We were shocked that we paid just under $35!!! This trip was so memorable and amazing, and the folks with Fruteria Vega were the first ones to show us how wonderful Texas and its people are! “The fiesta salad with steak is so good. The flavor of the steak is outstanding. It’s a little expensive, but so worth it every now and then. I forgot to request romaine, but they corrected it for me. The cashier at the window was very neutral. She didn’t say hi, bye, kiss my ass—nothing. I had to ask for salsa and forgot to ask for a fork and as usual—no napkins. The salad was superb except one piece of the lettuce core was present. If the food and service had been mediocre—I wouldn’t be too happy, but since the salad was delicious—I forgive little miss at the window.“
