“My husband and I visited this place on a vacation. We typically try as many local Mexican restaurants as we can when staying a few days in a new town. After trying Mi San Luis, we didn’t even bother- we came back 3 times during our stay in Lufkin because you just don’t find a place THIS good very often. If they were located in our home town, we’d eat here all the time.“
“I wondered what "The Best Mexican Food in Lufkin was." This place is good! The prices are great. I ordered chilaquiles although it wasn't on the menu. They brought out delicious housemade chips and salsa while I waited. The place was legit too-- the side chips even had a tiny potato spring in it. My breakfast was delicious. There were sadly no eggs, but the chips, beautifully crispy hashbrowns, well seasoned beans and hot corn tortillas were an AMAZING breakfast. 10/10 would definitely return.“
“Just stopped by to see what they have. Just moved out that way and pass it 12 times a week. Good little convenience store with Mexican restaurant. People were super friendly and helpful. Will use it for snacks and such going forward instead of the corporate giants and hope to get a meal there soon too.“
“As someone who loves unique foods, this place is a huge sinful pleasure for me. I desperately love Rose ice cream and they have it! It! They have so many unique flavors, there's no way I can try all the ice creams. And that's not the only kind of dessert and foods that they have. Everybody in Lufkin and the surrounding areas definitely need to go to this place and enjoy everything that they have. If I could go here daily, I would.“
“Well, what a change from 3 color Tex Mex! It's a kind of build it yourself burrito with lots of fresh, colorful trimmings just like like you have it at home. The food is fresh, the services friendly, and everything isn't pureed beans of some kind, tomato sauce, or cheese in a plastic bag/gun. They don't have the standard menu items but this is worth a try. I'm just really tired of TexMex beans, chips and red sauce cooked ninety ways from Sunday, then given 90 different names. Sweet tea is better than average too“
“Good food. Great service. That being said: I wouldn’t choose to pay to eat here. The food is good but not spectacular. It’s a small location nestled down a one way dirt road and it’s the only Mexican restaurant in a 20 mile radius so considering all that-it’s great! But not as good as other places that are IN town.“
“We stopped here on our way home from houston. We were pleased. Our order was correct, tacos had a great taste, were warm, perfert sizing, overall 10/10. We ordered to go,fast service and great customer service. This was our first time and will definitely stop again when in town. Thank you!“
“With all due respect to Cafe Del Rio, Herradura's is better. Salsa is fresh and perfectly spiced. Chips are thicker than average Mexican restaurants and obviously freshly fried. I had a combo meal (forget the name) but chicken enchilada smothered in mushroom sauce, a steak enchilada, 4 chicken cheese flaunts, smoked beans and rice. My wife had Pollo de pablano, and the grilled vegetables were divine! We won't mention how good the margaritas on the rocks are. Overall, best Mexican food I've had in East Texas“
“After eating here twice I can say this is one of the best, if not, THE best Mexican food restaurants in Lufkin, TX.The salsa is good and that's always a great indicator. They serve it warm which I like. You can also request a spicy green sauce and they have it.I had the combo platter and the waitress, who was very friendly, allowed me to swap out a couple of the enchiladas and get one cheese and one chicken and have them covered with enchiladas verdes sauce. It's hard to find good enchiladas verdes and these were great. The combo platter was huge and I love the way they prepped the taco because they kept the lettuce and tomatoes separate, allowing you to add them to the taco right before you eat.My wife ordered the nachos especiales and they are pictured in one of the photos. The beef was tender and seasoned just right. My wife states, "the nachos were full of flavor and the beef was tender, not chewy."The staff seemed friendly and the place was clean, but felt a little stuffy. We will certainly visit here again...likely many more times.“
“Awesome Mexican food! And El Coco Loco is inside too! Go for a good meal and get you some fresh fruit for dessert! I'll go by there and get fruit all the time. Don't forget your tamarinda powder!Vegetarian options: You can always get your plate with no meat on it.Kid-friendliness: They have fresh fruit and ice cream and yogurt! The little ones love going in there to get their ice cream cones.Parking: They have a pretty small parking lot. It's worth it to go there and eat though!“
“I absolutely LOVE this place. It has been my favorite restaurant for years and I go almost every Saturday. The staff never fail to talk to me and remember who I am and the food is always amazing. As someone with a lot of social anxiety, I feel comfortable eating here because everyone is always so amazing. I bring all of my friends and family here and have never heard a bad word about it from anyone. I wish happiness on everyone who works here and know that those who eat here will experience that happiness as well.“
