Athens is one of a handful of great downtown lunch options if you work in the area like me or if you get stuck doing jury duty and don't feel like eating the County's cafeteria food. While a little on the pricey side, the portions are absolutely enormous so you will likely get two meals out of a single serving! I've had the falafel, chicken shawarma, and gyro, and I can recommend all three. I especially like the gyro meat, which always turns out juicy and flavorful and is so good when wrapped in their extra fluffy pita bread. The chicken, while it does have a tendency to get a little dry, has a nice roasted flavor and the dryness isn't something that a little bit of their zingy tzatziki can't fix. And the falafel is great in that the fried exterior is nice and crisp and the balls hold together very well, but the inside is light and springy so you don't actually feel like you've eaten a fried dish. Combine one of these proteins with solid basmati rice done well and fresh salad that's never overdressed, and you've got an excellent and unique lunch ahead of you!

I had number 7 here for lunch on February 11th 2020 and started having food poisoning symptoms 4 hours later. I was there for lunch during the jury duty lunch break and the rest of day was miserable. This was the only food I had all day other than the breakfast I made myself at home. Food was tasty while eating it. Watch out and make sure a restroom is nearby

Food is great, price is good for the amount and quality of the Food, owner gives out samples if asked along with extra sauce sides for free. This is the shop that made me use yelp to write my first review. Pros: well worth the time and money Cons: parking sucks and my plate is empty

Only Greek food place downtown. They have lamb and gyros. They are to die for. When I'm in the mood I go here and geT my fix. They also have baklava.

Fast, efficient service with friendly, smiling staff. The Greek salad was the best I think I have ever had... wonderfully fresh, crisp, and tasty. The gyro was great. I feel some places use too much salt in the making of gyro components but this tasted great with what seems to be less salt than most.

You have to be a true 'down-towner' to know about Athens! One of the best AUTHENTICO greek places in town. I've only had the #7 which is the double meat plate and it never disappoints.

Great quick lunch while I was trapped in a horrible day of jury duty. It was super close to walk to from the courthouse, nice places to sit and eat there as well. The food was fresh and super tasty! Each dish includes a drink (and pita) and it's easy and quick to order and get through the line. It's hard to find great Greek places here in San Antonio and this one hit the spot for me.

Best Greek food in the city. The salad comes with a lot of meat and is amazing. Definitely recommend.

Got a to-go falafel wrap as a late lunch. The service was quick and pleasant and the meal was really good. The falafel had great flavor and wasn't too heavy. The pita was also very fresh. I would definitely recommend this place for a fast yet tasty lunch. It seems like a family-run business too, which is always nice.

The quality has slipped badly in recent months. The fries went from the nice thick steak style fries to thin McDonalds style fries. The meat was cold and the table still had bits of meat on it from the last person who used it. The bathroom was overrun with ants around the sink and toilet. Overall It went from a 5 to a 2.
