Chips and salsa with guacamole and cheese was the bomb. Drink bar and service was on point. Also, as a bonus, it was the cleanest I've seen this place in a while.

New review: new staff is really good.Old review:I usually love cafe rio, but this was one of the most painful experiences watching these employees put our meal together. We walked in with no line. And it took us 20 minutes to leave. Homeboy was one of the slowest workers ive ever seen. People behind us asked him to put there items back in the heater cause it was gonna be cold from sitting out too long. They messed up the order as well. They forgot to give the guy in front us one of his salads too ?Step it up.

The portions keep getting smaller, the service is below average, and the restaurant tables are always sticky regardless if they are busy or they have employees able to clean. I also don’t like that they are asking for a tip when there is no extra work or service rendered. Please pay a decent wage and don’t make us subsidize your payroll costs.

We had an incredibly positive experience with a recent catering order and I wanted to make sure that the hardworking team received some well-deserved credit! A 25 person catering order, placed only 3 hours before pick-up, is a fairly daunting challenge, but everything was ready and prepared when we arrived. The packaging ensured that nothing would spill and we had everything from car to table in 10 minutes. It really was the most convenient way to order dinner for a crowd! I was blown away with the portions and the gratuitous amount of chips offered with the sides.Perhaps the most incredible part of the entire experience though, was the extreme attention to detail displayed by staff members. I had ordered creamy dressing with the meals and had accidentally selected that as an additional sauce as well (instead of a bottle of vinegarette). Instead of just packaging things up and not thinking about it, they clarified the confusion about a double order of dressing and luckily caught my error. I was so grateful that the team was so thoughtful and thorough in their packing and preparing of our meals. Truly a testament to some incredible employees and a culture of service.

Consistently get skimped on how much food they give you at this location compared to others. Customer service varies greatly depending on whos working, can be very slow at making food, and sometimes run out of food early in the night. Overall the food is great but portions are inconsistent.

Usually a good location but I'm now on 2 different poor service experiences so I'll finally say something. This most recent wrongly made order pertains to a burrito that upon checking the bag, had no lettuce or Pico when it normally should. I asked for it to be added into the bowl, yet they decided to add lettuce and PINTO beans into the bowl instead. Why anyone would think they'd want extra Pinto beans in a burrito made with BLACK beans is beyond me. Thankfully my partner is moving out of the area soon so we can just deal with the more consistent Layton location.

Live large katydid grasshopper in my salad! Yep, staring right at me and moving up through my salad. Eating food for the last 45 years…this was a new experience. Immediately took it up to the cashier and told her I needed a new salad. I expected her to be startled, apologize, offer a refund or something but nothing. Like it happens everyday. Who is training people there?!This Traverse Mountain location from the beginning when it opened 5-6 years ago has consistently been the worst Cafe Rio of the 20 or so locations I’ve been to over the last 15 years. They have to work hard to be this bad. The franchise owner should be stripped of his location.A perpetually slow line that is being held up due to wrong orders, poor English and a cashier that should not be operating a register during a rush. Basics people.Last thing, this is the only locations that goes to great lengths to not restock napkins or plastic utensils or clean their eating area. Perpetually gross with workers making $20 per hour that are indifferent to it.Word to Traverse Mountain Cafe Rio management; no need to respond to my message here with a copy and pasted message like your other templates comments on here. Save your time and spend it closing up shop so we can get a competent restaurant in there. If you can’t figure it out after 6+ years…you never will.

I ordered the finely chopped lettuce for my vegetarian salad and there was way too little lettuce for a salad. Bean to lettuce ratio was very high. I will give more instructions next time.Vegetarian options: You can order a vegetarian salad.

Went at 6:45pm. Waited 5 minutes for someone to take my order even though there was no one in line and only 2 other customers in the restaurant. Then when I ordered a grilled steak burrito, they said that they don’t have steak. I asked how long it would be for it to be ready and they said over half an hour because they hadn’t prepped it at all. At check out, they asked if there was anything else and I said no, sadly cuz they didn’t have steak and the girl had and attitude and said ‘well, sorry’ and shrugged it off. Cafe Rio is definitely going down in customer service and experience as well as not having all their menu items because this is not the only location that this has happened in. Super disappointed and recommend you to AVOID AT ALL COST!

Food would have been ok but they are doing something new where they are putting a lime seasoning flavor on top of the salads. YUCK. Way too much. I just wanted the original chicken salad.

Food is pretty good, but the quality and quantity varies a little too much. Sometimes you get the dregs of the container and sometimes it's freshly refilled. And because there is usually a rush to get people through the line the server usually doesn't wait to make it right.
