The Tavern Reviews
Eating at The Tavern is quite an experience because when you step into the restaurant you step into history. The building that The Tavern calls home was built in 1779! It has hosted some famous folks in it's past, including King of France, Louis Philippe, and our own President Andrew Jackson. Today, Max Hermann, runs around making certain that all is well with guests and employees alike. The food is quite good (try the crab cakes and stuffed filet mignon), and the service is excellent....read full review
We are traveling and asked Google where the best restaurant was. Couldn't have asked for a better meal!! It was delicious!!
This has been our family reunion restaurant for decades! Absolutely love the food and the ambiance. We love the German fare and the steaks. You must try the stagecoach steak and spinach appetizer! Very unique and delicious! Peanut butter pie is the best dessert.

The Tavern offers outstanding food, service, and atmosphere with beautifully prepared dishes. The historic building, dating back to 1779, adds to the special dining experience. Street parking is easy to find, and the free parking lots are within walking distance. While more adults frequent the place, children are welcome. The Biscuits and Gravy and Ham and Cheese Omelette are spectacular for brunch. The patio is cute and comfy, perfect for enjoying dishes like French onion soup, duck, and bacon-wrapped scallops.
A short wait without a reservation is often worth it for the great service, but it is recommended to make reservations if guests want to sit inside or under the covered terrace. The food is exceptional, and the wine list is divine. Guests have enjoyed appetizers like Smoked Norwegian Salmon and Oysters Rockefeller, and entrees such as Springer Mountain Chicken and Risotto. However, service can be slow during busy times, and some guests have found the dining room with stairs to be noisy and disruptive due to the wait staff running up and down. Despite some drawbacks, many guests return year after year, thanks to the top-notch service and impressive experience.
