The chocolate almond croissant from Sub Rosa is the best one I've ever had..period. Also, the ham and cheese croissant and the tart was incredible. Knowing that we were saving our gingerbread cookies for later in the day, we knew we had the perfect reason to order some fresh baked donuts to start our holiday morning, and promptly requested both a lemon filled donut and a cream filled donut.As soon as we got home, we neatly divided each donut so that we could share our breakfast, and each experience the flavors and textures we were so excited about! These donuts were both baked so nicely, with a delicately crisp but tender outside, with a light, fluffy but still doughy inside. What made these donuts sing was their balanced composition, as each was filled with just the right amount of creamy filling, ensuring that each bite had the proper ratio of filling to donut. As for the lemon filling, it gave the perfect amount of “pucker;” it was a well-balanced, sweet and sour flavor with a rich and cheerful attitude. I would have been happy with the cookie batch coming out as I've been used to over the years from family members. “Lovely little bakery on a cute street. Stopped by on a Saturday morning to get the best selection and they had so many tasty-looking items. It was hard to choose! I selected the chocolate-almond croissant, the canele, and the supreme of the day (coffee-chocolate). We moved to Richmond from Charlottesville and I am a big fan of Marie Bette and the late, great Bowerbird Bakeshop. Idle Hands is definitely on the level with these. The supreme is a unique offering, and I'm so glad I was able to try it in one of my favorite flavors - coffee. It was huge and had tons of coffee pastry creme - so good. The canele was good, although I prefer the mini ones from Marie Bette - the smaller size makes a better ratio between the caramely outside and the soft inside. The chocolate-almond croissant was the star of the show. So generously filled with almond cream that it weighed nearly 12 ounces! Light and delicious pastry. A perfect treat!“

We had to accommodate dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free and gluten-free dietary restrictions and not only was the cake INCREDIBLE, but the service was so good. I emailed my inquiry and got a response quickly. I had a change the week of my order and it was accommodated with a smile. Our birthday girl, who had the dietary restrictions, could not believe that she could really eat the cake. We had one guest day he thought the WPA cake was better than the other one we had that was the same flavor but had gluten, dairy, egg and soy.WPA will now be our go-to bakery.
