“My friends and I had a fantastic time indulging in multiple rounds of Lemon Drop Martinis, along with delicious appetizers like cornbread and wings, followed by a delightful dinner. Our server was exceptional, making the evening even more special as we celebrated my friend's birthday. To our surprise, they treated my friend to a complimentary glass of Prosecco adorned with a birthday candle. We couldn't resist sharing our entrees, which included smoked brisket meatballs, pan-roasted shrimp, and fried catfish, all of which were incredibly tasty. The portions were generous enough for sharing, and the fried catfish was simply the best we've ever tasted, prompting us to order some to take home. I wholeheartedly recommend this place for a cozy evening with friends or family!“

“This place has a great atmosphere and the staff is wonderful. We were just driving through Richmond and decided to stop here for a bite. My husband had the brisket sandwich which he said was fantastic. I had the trainwrek that was so large and outstanding I couldn’t finish it and have leftovers. The food is fresh and has exquisite flavor! If I’m ever in Richmond again I will be returning.“

“The restaurant was very open and spacious with a full bar. I thought it might be very noisy because of the incredibly tall ceilings, but it wasn't. Service was prompt and efficient, our order of chicken sandwich and beet salad arrived promptly. Both were good quality and quantity roughly $15 each. Great beer, wine and cocktail selection. Wasn't impressed with the rib egg roll, they were popular though. Street parking could be a challenge during peak dining hours.

“I waited all week to get a meal from Mama J ! I was very disappointed, my order was wrong no corn muffin ,got cabbage when I order collar greens. Waitress wrote collardgreens on my order but someone didn't read and gave me cabbage. Also gave me a teaspoon of potato salad .I came from Chesterfield to be disappointed. A 40.00 meal 0“

“One of the top three meals I've ever had. My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we always try someplace new. This has been on the list for two years but it's hard to get a reservation. I wasn't too keen on the special drink menu (I don't do gin or bourbon) but they all looked interesting. We got the stuffed quail and coq au Morocco. Deeelicious!! Plan ahead and go! Very worth the experience.“

We went on a Saturday night without a reservation. I would recommend having a reservation to others because I felt like we got lucky. Waited about 20 minutes to get a seat.
The hostess was helpful, and the wait staff was attentive. Food came out relatively quickly.
The inside of the restaurant was lively, very attractive, and all of the patrons looked to be completely enjoying themselves.
Started with the basket of cornbread, and could see immediately that it was dripping in butter. Light, tender, and slightly sweet. Probably the most enjoyable cornbread I have ever had. My wife had meatloaf, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, and mac n cheese. She enjoyed all. I found the mac n cheese tasty, but not noteworthy. I had country fried chicken, mashed potatoes with chicken gravy, and stewed tomatoes. Mashed potatoes were excellent, and stewed tomatoes were a revelation on how well they could be prepared. The disappointment of the meal was the chicken. It was drier and tougher than I had had at nice restaurants like this in a very long time. I should have sent it back, but I did not.
Overall, we were both very happy with Southern Kitchen. We will be back.“
