“MEKENIE FILIPINO RESTAURANT In the large Filipino community that has come to South King County in the last 20 years you ask the question: Is there Filipino cuisine in Renton? It seems like a tall order. But it isn't. You just have to ask. And the answer is Mekenie's! Opened in 2018 by Monna Lisa Perez, the restaurant is run by her daughter Jonnarae greeting you in the front of the house and son, ChaRly in kitchen making up your tasty fair. Located in the Cascade neighborhood of Renton, Mekenie is housed in the Cascade Mall. Although unseemingly quiet, it quickly gets packed on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, and sometimes on Sunday. The restaurant is also available for private bookings. On a technical note, their food and hospitality has aspects from the Pampangan region of the Philippines, known for its rich culinary heritage. This tradition was on display in this homestyle decor with homestyle tastes that any diner will recognize, and where Filipino Americans will find comfort. All are tasty. As an appetizer, I had the fresh, hand rolled, deep-fried pork lumpia - which came out piping hot out the fryer (awesome). I also had a traditional pork Sinigan with just the right amounts of tamarind, lemon, and tomato - making a nice clear consume broth. And just a little bit of Philippine style fish-sauce for taste. One note, no Coke products here. It must be Pepsi - Definitely a Filipino thing.Philippine brand snacks and drinks are also available to round out the experience. Stop by. Have Pepsi, and prepare to order! Mabuhay!! #supportrentoneats #mekeniefilipinorestaurant“

“If you like Filipino food this is the place for you.I’ve eaten at many different pinoy restaurants and this was by far the best.If you want the ube pancake (you do) then you must go on a Friday or Saturday.Do not miss out on this place. There was a scary looking line out front. But even so I only had to wait 10-20 minutes.“

“Order at the front and find a seat, don't skip over the homemade green sauce ready for retrieval on the side table. You cannot go wrong with any of the menu items. I have been searching the greater seattle area for a nice place of Filipino food and I am so so impressed with CheBogz. Personally tried to the longganisa plate and the chicken inihwa plate and... sheeeeeesh. That was amazing. Parking is a bit tough but try the neighborhoods around the restaurant, street parking is most likely.“

“we stumbled upon this filipino cafe while walking around chinatown. the reviews looked good so we gave it a shot.first, such cute decor and nice lighting. we were greeted warmly by the cashier and i knew this would immediately be great. sadly they ran out of decaf, but i'm willing to compromise for getting the dangerously delicious ube latte.no idea how they got such a stunning color, but damn it was addicting to look at and to drink.“

“We really wanted to try this restaurant as it is one of very few Filipino restaurants in this city saturated with other Asian cuisine restaurants. We ordered the Pusit, Beef Mechado, Balaw na Hipon and Adobong Sitaw. I was quite surprised that rice, which is the staple starch for Fiipino and Asian meals, was not included as part of the price for the main dishes like Beef Mechado which costs $32.00, and Balaw na Hipon, $30.00. The Balaw na Hipon was the best tasting of all the things we ordered. The adobong sitaw would have been a side dish at other Asian restaurants, here it costs $18.00 and the serving was very small, it was also very salty. We were charged $8 for 2 servings of rice, which, again, should be included in the prices of main dishes which cost $30 and $32.Our bill for the 4 dishes plus two servings of rice, Before taxes and the 22 percent service charge was $114.00. With taxes, service charge of 22 percent (and tip which was optional)came out to $158.75, which I think is quite overpriced compared to other Asian restaurants in the area. A family which lives on minimum wage in Seattle would never be able to afford to eat here. They should consider including at least one serving of rice with dishes that cost $30 and $32, and if customers want more rice, they can pay extra.“

“Saw raving review about this place so decided to drive all the way to pike place to order take out (not knowing there is some open seating). The food was delicious, I got a range of different things including longanisa, Salmon Sinigang (not pictured), pancit, and pork adobo. The best was the fried Bangus Fish. Others were just okay. Service was fast and you can kill time by reading all the fun signage. Parking was difficult as you can imagine based on where it's located so be mindful of that. I've been to Philippines many times, having family there, so I do crave authentic Filipino food from time to time. The restaurant is certain a fun place to check out and food is great but I would argue that the place is super authentic. Lastly another reason for 4 stars is the price. All this costed $70+. Almost $20 per dish!“

Lumpia

“This is a great restaurant, the people and the food are great for the most part. A lot of people have an issue with the weird times this place is open and with the price of the food. I understand that the pandemic hit hard, and it's hard to run a restaurant. However, there are definitely things to critique. The food is good, but expensive for small portions. They are also having a menu change at the end of August (that's what I was told last time I came here). They changed the vegan lumpia to only have vegetables in it (tasted like a spring roll), and are getting rid of the adobo burger (no longer on menu) :(. The current menu does not have any lumpia besides the new vegetable one, no dessert, and no potatoes. I thought the lumpia was a favorite? I used to visit every now and then because we love the lumpia, but I don't know how often I'll visit after the change. Maybe it will be good though, I can update later. This place was great, sad to see a decline because of the pandemic or other issues :( If you have the money, it's a good place to support!“
