“I have to start this by saying I almost don't want to leave this review because I want to keep this place secret to myself, but because I'm disabled and have rarely been treated so well despite the issues I have I needed to leave this review.I have brain damage and it can sometimes be very difficult for me to understand what's going on around me, My first time coming here I was not able to get a drink because they are cash only, the man behind the bar repeated himself for me many times so I could understand what was going on, he was incredibly kind to me even though he knew long before i did that I didn't have the means to pay. Great experience.Then the second time I came I knew to bring cash and again the man behind the bar was very nice to me and made sure he understood what I wanted to drink. (Which can be hard because of my speech)On top of all that the atmosphere is very nice, giving the feeling that you have been to this bar a million times and made many great memories there, the pours are HEAVY, you don't want a double lol, and the other guests are respectful and kind.I really enjoyed the fact that I could come here alone and just be left alone which I find to be harder and harder to find in a bar. Sometimes you just need to be alone with your thoughts and this is a fantastic place to go for that too. In the end I really can't say enough good things about this place and highly recommend everybody to come have a drink here.“
“Breakwater was the right place to celebrate my dad's birthday party. Hollywood and staff provided excellent service and food at reasonable prices! The party room was set up beautifully and Hollywood provided welcoming and bar signs, a large screen to project photos, lovely table settings in a perfect setting! Guests loved the food and everyone had a wonderful time! Great food and atmosphere. Highly recommended!“
“I came here for my birthday dinner and had a spectacular experience. They suggest you share plates, which is what we did. Our server recommended the "Big Dill Energy" cocktail, which was very refreshing. My partner loved the beef tartare, but the all star dish of the night to me was the jerk rabbit. It was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. Will 100% be returning.“
“WOWWWW! As a non-vegan, I was definitely skeptical of this restaurant, but that was my mistake. This is one of the very best restaurants in all of Madison. It was so good that I went twice in one week because I couldn't stop thinking about how fantastic the food was! The service was excellent and Juan, the chef, made our experience super memorable. Make sure to get the chickpea paneer and the bao, they are both to die for! I'll be coming back (maybe again next week haha) and plan on taking all of my friends and family there to impress them. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough! Thank you to the staff for such an amazing dinner!!“
“I've always enjoyed RED but haven't been here in a couple years. My friend does not like raw fish and yet as her first time here she had a delightful experience with the cooked items offered. The reservation process was simple and by chance we were seated at one of my favorite tables (by chance? Hmmm) Service was brisk in the best possible way - our drinks arrived quickly as did the appetizer we wanted to accompany them. A favorite has always been the vegetarian shiitake tempura roll and was well received by my friend as was the California roll with king crab. As I had my raw fish she had king crab nigiri which was a hit. This was the perfect place to precede a performance by our wonderful symphony orchestra at the Overture Center a few blocks away. My date thought our server was both cute and charming and he was thoroughly professional - we could have not asked for better. Bravo RED“
“We were in town for a hockey tournament and a friend recommended we try Heritage Tavern. The alcoholic and NA cocktails were on point. We all loved the deviled eggs. The entrees were delicious and unique. We will definitely visit again if we come back to Madison.“
“Madison's on King Street in downtown Madison is always a great place for food, drinks, and hanging out with friends or coworkers. It's one of my favorite spots for happy hour. They have a great happy hour menu and it's from 4-6pm Tuesday thru Friday. Their spicy margarita and dry rubbed wings are delicious!“

“Hard to give a rating - I want it to be 5 stars, and for Madison it perhaps is, but when comparing versus similar price points in major food cities around the country or in Europe - the food falls short.All the dishes were well presented and generally good, but there wasn’t really a standout, special dish - which at this price point is a disappointment. The dishes are comparable to other good restaurants in Madison, just in the form of a 13 course menu and a little extra creativity in some of them.Service and chef are exceedingly kind and good hosts, and the drink menu is good/unique and pairings matched well - so definite positives there.Constructive feedback for the restaurant would be to pair down the quantity served with each course a little bit and use that saved time/money/effort to introduce more ‘gastronomique’ refinement to the ingredients. The quantity can be a bit too much - we were served 4 dessert courses which were each about the size of a normal dessert plate elsewhere. This was far too much and took me from feeling comfortably full to just gorged and still ‘needing’ to eat a ton more super sweet dessert because it was next up on the course. Four times. Looking around, most of the guests were barely eating these desserts because it was just too much. Focusing more on the distribution of courses (a stronger balance towards lighter/whimsical courses at the beginning of the menu and having truly “unbutton my pants good” savory courses mid menu, and fewer, less sweet dessert courses) would really improve the pacing of the meal and give more flavor/textual/sensory variety to the meal as a whole.“

They have a toy corner for kids too!I'd wish the toys were cleaned once in a while. They were very sticky and had crusty dirt on them. “My husband and I went here for date night. As soon as we walked in, it was super loud but nearly every table was full - a good sign for great food. Our server was so sweet, I wish I remembered her name. Started with a C. We ordered some cocktails and my husbands mind was blown when they came out with a smoker with his drink in it. Our food was delicious, he had the filet that melted in your mouth. I had the Thai chicken bowl and that was delicious as well! We’ll definitely be back - hopefully before the outdoor dining closes for the season.“
“I like the place a lot. I've been there in the evening before but never for brunch. My potatoes were wildly overcooked, but the breakfast burrito was delicious. We waited a LONG time after we got our food for our server to return, but he never did until I called out to him. As if we'd disappeared. So that was weird and a little irritating.“

Maybe the best I’ve had anywhere in the country with all due respect to all the Baltimore/East coast and west coasters. Obviously always comes down to choice but really nice balance of viscosity and flavor without being so creamy all it becomes is cream soup with potatoes and chunks of clams. I almost cancelled the fish and just got more soup…lake perch was a little undercooked but I knew I should’ve said ‘well done’ cuz they were busy, but didnt. Call that my fault. This place has a good variety of pizzas that you can choose and if you don't see a pizza that catches your eye, you can place an order for free.
