“Korean sushi place on Edmonds. Parking is available inside the strip mall lot, as well as on the side streets. Place looks pretty bright and cozy. Staff are friendly and quick. The chirashi don I had definitely scores points on the presentation (cute little wooden basket). However, the portion size is definitely on the small side. Besides an ebi prawn, this dish also comes with a peeled whole prawn. I was able to gaze into its eyes while devouring its body. Ingredients were nice and fresh. Salmon, tuna, snapper, mackerel, surf clam, octopus, tobiko, ikura, and some other bits and a nice chrysanthemum flower. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point to try their other stuff.“

“I had the Deluxe Chirashi Don which came out with huge portions of fresh sashimi. Their sashimi is high quality and delicious. Uni and Toro were my favourite! All the nigiri and rolls were amazing, with perfect ratio of rice to sashimi/ingredients. Fried salmon sticks were so tasty. The service was outstanding, the servers were so friendly and attentive. This place will be my go-to if I want fresh and delicious sushi.“

“This place is so good that I want to gatekeep it… but a girls gotta share!! As students, this is literally our new favourite sushi place in all of the greater Vancouver area. We’ve tried an assortment of rolls and they’ve all been absolutely out of this world delicious!! Not only is Salmon Wave affordable, the staff are SO lovely and the hours are incredible (especially for students in the area… it’s a great place to study or fulfil evening cravings!!) I’d easily recommend salmon wave to anyone!! ???Pictured is the volcano roll, the French kiss roll, the baked salmon roll, and two cups of heart warming miso soup :)“

“This place has EXCELLENT, fresh food and the staff were SO friendly! The reason why I gave 4 stars for atmosphere is that the seating area is very small (but CUTE!) and so you may not be able to plan to be seated when you go. We had takeout and it worked very well. Would definitely go again! I order the salmon oshi and it’s probably the best tasting dish out there! Loved it!“

“First time at sushi box, very impressed. The sushi is fresh and tastes awesome. Got the tiger roll, spicy sashimi, Alaska roll, and a few pieces of nigiri which was packed with tons of flavour can tell fish is fresh and high quality. Amount of food and quality was worth it for its price. Service and atmosphere was great!“

“Must have been here a 50 times over the last 10 years. It’s our all time go to favourite sushi restaurant in the Burnaby. Volcano roll, Holdon roll and Las Vegas roll are always a crowd pleaser in our house hold. The owner (I think) is the collector of actions figure, so lots of displays around this mini but cozy place.“

“Auntie is so kind! The Teppanyaki is authentic Taiwanese style. Abei is very good at frying steaks. I ordered sirloin and filet during my first visit. They were super tender and delicious! The bean sprouts are also super fragrant, and the sauce is neither salty nor greasy and goes very well with rice.“

“Phenomenal!... I have eaten at o-Sushi-ya all over the world. Tokyo, New York, Honolulu, San Francisco; and outside of Japan, this is the best. From the briny ponzu kissed Miyagi oysters to the rich and deep-nuanced Chawan-mushi to the creamy smooth Yamaimo drizzled Maguro to the perfectly done butter-soy grilled fresh local squid - all were the best I have had. Then to finish, the matcha, fruit, lychee kanten and ahn parfait was light, sweet perfection.“

“Kilala offers super fresh sushi at reasonable prices. Eat in is nothing fancy and service is very polite reminiscent of my time in Japan. There is maybe 2 parking spots available in a very tight awkward underground parking (best to find street parking). The japanese creme caramel is a must try if they have it available.“

“Simple place, good food and reasonably priced. Presentation is great but taste good as well. Service was fast too. There are so many choices which are unique. Not a typical Japanese restaurant. Our favorite is the salmon tartare, salmon carpaccio and club salmon poke. We tried the aburi salmon shikoya - salmon with zucchini roll, its just okay for us but not outstanding. Will definitely come back again to try the other dishes.“

“A cut above AND great value! Stopped in here for dinner because we were in the neighbourhood -kind of a random pick. Their take on dishes common all over the city was consistently unique and subtly complex. We will make a point of going back.Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options. I always like to see an umeshiso roll on the menu (not every Japanese/sushi restaurant has it) and theirs did not disappoint“

“This is a restaurant that I would like to evaluate as fusion Japanese food rather than authentic Japanese food. The price is a bit high, but the overall taste and quality of the food is good. When I visited, I saw that most tables were eating cream pasta, so I ordered it and it was delicious. In the case of Yuza Chashu Ohsi, the taste of yuzu at the end balances out the greasiness of the pork.In the case of Spicy Tuna Ohsi, red pepper paste sauce was used to reduce the greasy taste of the tuna, but it would have been more delicious if the red pepper paste tasted a little less.Overall delicious food!“

“this is my favourite place to eat, ever. the sushi is always tasty, always super affordable, and I love the guy who works here! Super hard-working and friendly. They’re fast, cheap, and delicious. I would say ignore any mediocre reviews, try them once, and form your own opinions. But I highly recommend and think you’ll come back!“

“A Gem Tucked Away in BurnabyThis past Friday night, I stumbled upon a hidden gem in Burnaby: Makoto, a charming little Japanese restaurant with a warm, family-run atmosphere. Stepping inside, the decor was unpretentious, focusing on clean lines and a comfortable ambiance. It became immediately clear that the focus here was purely on the food.Despite being a two-person operation, the service was surprisingly swift. The husband, who skillfully doubled as both bus boy and server, was incredibly efficient. While the wife worked her magic in the kitchen, he expertly handled the floor, his genuine warmth adding to the homey feel of the restaurant. Now, onto the star of the show: the food! I started with the agedashi tofu, a classic Japanese dish that can be a true test of a restaurant's skill. Makoto's rendition was nothing short of delightful. The tofu was perfectly cooked, achieving that delicate balance between soft and firm. The light, flavorful dashi broth it was bathed in was a symphony of umami, and the accompanying crisp panko crumbs added a delightful textural contrast.Next up were the crispy California rolls. I have to say, these are a must-try for any California roll enthusiast. The seaweed salad (a delightful surprise!) added a touch of freshness and a delightful crunch, while the avocado and cucumber offered a cool counterpoint to the savoury crab meat. The true star, however, was the tempura batter — perfectly light and airy, it encased the ingredients without overwhelming them. Finally, I couldn't resist the ten tama don, a dish featuring plump shrimp tempura and a perfectly cooked, fluffy egg. Each spoonful was a delightful combination of textures and tastes, with the delicate sweetness of the egg and the savory pops of the shrimp. The entire meal was surprisingly affordable, which only added to the overall satisfaction. Makoto isn't a place where you go for fancy ambiance or a trendy scene. It's a place where you go for delicious, authentic Japanese food prepared with care and served with genuine hospitality. The husband-and-wife team at Makoto are clearly passionate about what they do, and it shines through in every aspect of the dining experience. I left feeling happy, content, and already planning my next visit. If you're looking for a hidden gem in Burnaby that offers fantastic Japanese food at a great price, Makoto is definitely worth checking out!“

“It’s been a while since I last visited Isami Sushi but I had made a special trip to the Metrotown area so I could try the new Soft Peaks location and figured it’d be a good idea to stop off for some sushi while I was at it. While their address is on Kingsway, this Japanese restaurant is actually located around the corner on McKay Avenue.I ordered the Special Assorted Sushi ($16) which includes a tuna roll as well as 9 pieces of various nigiri sushi. They do a really good job with their fresh fish here and the temperature was perfect. The chef’s selection of nigiri included real crab, ikura, tobiko, tuna, salmon, hamachi, scallop, and ebi.If you’re looking for a solid sushi place around the Metrotown area, check out Isami Sushi.Update: Mar 2024. It's been another 5 years since our last visit here. Glad to see the food was still good. Their lunch menu isn't as big as I remember it to be.Ordered the chicken teriyaki and the unatama roll (unagi and tamago) which was nice and creamy.Fresh assorted sashimi with scallop, tuna, salmon, hokkaigai, and maybe tai or madai?Finished our meal with appetizer tempura and spinach gomae. Food came out fast and quality was good.“

“Take out only but a hidden gem. The ingredients are fresh even down to the wasabi. The rice is properly made. The roll has just the right amount of rice and it is rolled tightly. We had a dynamite roll and the prawns inside are still crunchy. The house roll are filled with sashimi and only little amount of imitated crab meat. This for quality is exceptional for its price. Please keep it up and we will revisit often.“

“Amazing food. Served quickly and fresh. Close to joyce skytrain station. I was waiting for my laundry to be done across the restaurant and come by here for lunch. The portion is also quite big and not too expensive. They do have a lunch break for 30 minutes I believe it is around 2-3pm ? But great quality even though the place is not that big. Calming vibes and enjoyable. Must try hereee it is just 3-4 minutes walk from joyce skytrain, when you see trees cafe and coco go straight until you see Wellington Avenue then it will be on your right ?“

“I ordered through their website for pickup on a Monday afternoon. It was very easy hassle free process. I followed up through a phone call to remind them of allergies. Mixed veg tempuras were good. California rolls and veg roll also did not disappoint. The chicken karages were ok, I was not impressed. Family enjoyed the food. Price was reasonable. Will try dining in next time.“

“Went there for Friday lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday, party of 4. First time back since their renovations and it's now brighter and more spacious, giving an inviting atmosphere. We had the lunch set A and lunch set C and an order of the soya sauce marinated salmon rice. All the food was delicious with great portions. We especially enjoyed the marinated raw crab and shrimp, the assorted sashimi, and bulgogi. Service was great, and ordering and asking for anything was very easy with the tablet at tableside for ordering and requesting anything from the servers.“

“I love this place. My parents and I have been regular customers for quite some time now, and I can say that nothing has disappointed me yet. My usual would be a teriyaki bento meal with a kappa roll, and every single time I have been met with the smell of delicious food and really good taste. The servers are very nice, treating us very kindly. They greet us with a happy smile and are cheerful. Would come here again and again. Thank you for the amazing service !!“

“I decided to drop in here after my gym. For some reason I never tried this place but decided to give it a try today and had an awesome experience! I ordered assorted donburi, salmon spicy crunch roll and some nigiris. I was amazed to see how fresh the fish, rice was and prices were way too reasonable for covid standards. I’ll be coming back all the time. Really appreciate the chef for giving me an extra piece of fish on my toro nigiri when I asked if it was okay to eat 2 pieces while I was waiting for take out. My family member also said this place is awesome! ????????쉐프님이 너무 친절하셔서 너무 기분이 좋았어요!! 엑스트라 토로 너무 감사합니다, 자주 올게요!“

“It’s been little over a year since my time in sfu and during that time, I sought out for the best possible food in campus. As I wonder around hopelessly not being able to find anything that I can call food, I came across Togo sushi. Sushi has always been my favourite food and it was so convenient that it was so close to the place I was studying. I ordered chicken yaki udon as well as house roll. The food came out very fast and the servers always had smiles on their face. And the food did not disappoint either. I highly recommend anyone that enjoys sushi to take a visit here. Yums!!“

“I got take out from here over the weekend. The wait was longer than stated but still reasonable for a Saturday night. We tried it because Uber constantly has a BOGO deal for their saba aburi (among many other BOGO items) and also we were craving sashimi. The food is okay but definitely not the best sushi out there. I might not even order the aburi again if not for BOGO. But we were absolutely blown away by the portion and price. The bento box A has SO much food: 2pcs prawn tempura, 2pcs yam tempura, teriyaki chicken on rice, 8pcs California roll, salad and miso soup!! And it’s $10.95!! I really don’t know where to find these prices for a meal anymore…I feel like the price is comparable to a fast food meal, maybe even cheaper than recent grocery prices!Overall, everything else was decent and fresh too. So definitely recommend if you’re craving sushi but trying to save $$, just don’t expect anything fancy!TLDR: pretty average sushi place, made up for by the very generous portions and extremely affordable prices“

“I came at a weird in between hour (4 pm), it looked closed from the outside due to blinds down - but there were five tables with customers with engaged conversations, music was not too distracting or too loud. Good atmosphere.Service was good, came and checked in on how I was liking the food. It looked good, tasted good and had decent portion. Maybe a tad saltier than my preference but I didn't say anything up front and for North American market it is tame.“

“The food was top-notched and we ordered a lot of food & sushi, every one of them is delicious. Wonderful atmosphere as an izakaya as well. Also, special thanks to one of the kindest waitresses I met in my lifetime. I dined in tonight and accidentally left my phone on the table for my first time ever, and she ran downstairs just to give me back my phone. So grateful for her help and I wish I could give her 30% or even more for tips. She is my lifesaver tonight and has my sincerest thanks.Definitely would visit again and looking forward to having great food.“

“Pleasantly surprised by this sushi joint in Burnaby. I ordered the teriyaki Bento box which can be ordered at any time during business hours. The Bento box comes with a side of miso soup. I also ordered wild salmon maki rolls. Everything was fresh and delicious. The teriyaki chicken was surprisingly hot and tasty. Crispy perfection. I paid a total of $23 and change (including tips) for the entire meal. The customer service was a bit lacking, but don’t let that stop you from trying this authentic sushi restaurant. Highly recommended!“

“I love that the gomae comes as a roll. The spicy agadashi Tofu could be spicier, but the Tofu itself was bouncy and fun to eat like mochi if you're a texture person. The flavours for the garlic and jalapeño on the oushi were very intense. Black cod was delicate and tasty and tempura fantastic.“
