“My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner this week. I knew it was associated with Jinya downtown, so I had high hopes. We had a new server so we probably could have gotten our drink order taken sooner and not have to wave him down. We ordered pork gyoza to start, disappointed to find out they were out. Ordered spicy tuna mini tacos. Reminded me of over mayoed tuna salad with little spice. Ordered our ramen. Was supposed to come with thick noodles. Was given thin instead. Ordered fatty pork only to be told after our order was taken that they were out. I called the manager over and asked about the noodles (it was written clearly on the menu under the ramen we ordered that it was to come with thick noodles). He agreed the chef should have known better. So I get my ramen redone and miraculously they just got a delivery so the fatty pork was available for me and my husband! I get my new remade ramen and look at the “thick” noodles. I was expecting udon thick. No dice. Think about angel hair pasta and then spaghetti noodles. That was the difference. Kind of disappointing. But the broth and pork were good and because I do love noodles I wasn’t crushed but it just wasn’t what I expected. The manager took 20% off our bill for our troubles which was good. The ebi mayo app was pretty tasty, tho I’d ask for the mayo on the side next time. I’d like to say I’ll go back. Their Poke looks good. I doubt my husband will go back. Don’t go with high expectations, but give it a try.“
“Came here for dinner with some friends on a Friday evening. We got a table right away! This is my second time at this location and it did not disappoint. Still one of the best ramen places I’ve ever been to! The broth is so rich and flavorful and the portion was quite good for the price.Service was excellent as we got our food right away and our server checked up on us often. The environment was clean and well-kept. Would definitely come back here! 10/10!“
“I have been coming here for years now and the vegetarian options are amazing. While no doubt there Vegan missio rekka ramen is bomb the wait time can be north of 30 to 45 min which can be tiring but the ramen is worth it.They only accept cards no cash heads up. Also if you live in Vancouver get their stamp card worth it.“
“Awesome place with awesome ramen! The service is really good making the overall experience great. I’m definitely a regular here :)Vegetarian options: You don’t get a lot of great vegetarian options in Canada, but Kinton’s veg spicy garlic is absolutely amazing.“
“I'm from Sydney and found this ramen place from Google maps. Also have lived in a ramen suburb for nearly a year in Japan, so my taste buds are well acquainted with the true ramen.Ordered Tonkotsu Shoyu ramen. Soup has the right balance of richness, body to it. Noodles are on the thicker side (as shown in one of the photos). The soup has more of the seaweed flavour as some other reviewers described, so it has a distinct character to it.Chashu uses the right fatty cut so it very soft and tender, not like some places where they use lean cuts.Bamboo shoots are also fresh.Perhaps the egg yolk can be slightly more runnier but I can't ask for anything more. I inhaled the entire bowl of noodes, slurped up all the soup in 15 minutes. This place is definitely worth repeats. If they can do a seemingly plain tonkotsu Shoyu ramen that well, every bowl will satisfy you!Thank you so much for bringing this perfect bowl of ramen.“
“I had heard about this place but hadn't had the opportunity to visit it until this Sunday. It offers some of the best ramen in Vancouver and is an excellent choice if you're looking for a delightful meal. Unfortunately, the space is small, and you may have to wait in line, but trust me, it's worth it! Also, thanks for your excellent customer service!“
“Found this place randomly while walking through International Village on a rainy day. This by far some of the best ramen I have ever had. And its in a food court...Suuuper tasty broth. I got the Tantan Ramen with extra noodles and garlic. The noodles were freaking great!I highly recommend! Amd I will for sure be back and bringing peeps!“
“Just discovered this place today and it was such an amazing experience. Great food as well, not like the ones I've always had which are sometimes too salty or too bland, this one is just fantastically balanced flavors. Would definitely come back with my friend!“
“A welcome back for my tastebuds after 8 days without asian food.Got the yuzu ratan ramen. 8/10! While the thin noodles is not my preference (i prefer the chewier thicker noodles), the broth was light thanks to the yuzu with a bit of a spice kick. Decent amount of toppings. Good value for money with the combo deal. The mini karage don was pretty good too 9/10. Their homemade ginger ale was quite refreshing 9/10.Service was great.Bar seats not the comfiest but you get a kitchen show.“
“Best ramen we’ve had outside of Japan!! The line out the door is justified, so try come at an off peak time.My broth was rich, fragrant, flavourful and so delicious with the cha shu pork. I chose the thinner style noodles and they were also cooked to a perfect consistency. My husband got the dipping style ramen noodle, which he enjoyed so much. Noodles were bouncy and sauce was very flavourful, can tell it was cooked for a long time. Both noodle bowls were very generous servings for very reasonable prices.Food came out really fast and service was attentive. If I come back to Vancouver this is top of my list to return to“
“Came for the first time on St. Patrick’s Day. I ordered ramen and requested to remove veggies. I tried Yokohama Iekei Ramen & Karaage on my first time here. I ended up eating karaage without dipping the tartar sauce because it was better without any sauce.“
“A really good place. The ramen and the entire menu are very good. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the staff are friendly! The decoration is great! Only positive things, we were extremely satisfied. We went back several times during our Canadian stay.“
“Been coming here for around the last 4 years, there has been small adjustments but overall, the quality, portions size, value are still all 5 stars. The Black Ramen and Spicy are goto, where the Black Ramen is particularly unique with great flavor. We usually pair it with a Chicken Karrage which are in very fair portions.Honestly one of the better Ramen places in Vancouver, and I would also say Burnaby aswell.“
“I highly recommend it. The service is really good, we went there when It was really busy and still servers They made sure to give us good service, the food was really good, they offered us extra noddles for free, the food is tasty and good size, eating the cheesecake was all an experience, you can feel the cheesecake melting in your mouth, so yummy besides the cute presentation. The only thing to highlight is the spicy level, I have been there, and I ordered both time ramen spicy level 2. The first time was really spicy. However, I really enjoyed it. The second time, it was not spicy as the first, so it is difficult to know what level you gonna get every time, However, I emphasize that despite the spicy level, ramen always has an amazing flavor.Waiting time to be seated: usually fast, no waiting more than 5 minutes.“
“This unassuming little ramen shop is absolutely delightful. Good food, with some really interesting Korean-Japanese fusion items on the menu, and great prices! The girl who served me on both visits was so sweet and helpful. This is definitely my new go-to spot for a hot bowl of soup on a wet day.“
“Decided to come here because another very popular ramen place next door had a 45-minute wait while Kokoro had empty tables, and after eating the food, let me tell you, it is an injustice that this place isn't getting a similar amount of business.I had the Mentaiko Cream Mazesoba, and it was amazing; a porky, fishy, garlicy, peppery taste explosion in a creamy sauce that coats your whole mouth with bold flavors, and thick noodles, cut to the perfect length to fill your mouth, and so chewy you get addicted to eating them. It really captures the taste of authentic Japanese food, and reminded me of my travels in Japan. For the price point, you can get any of the 3 bowl sizes AND, with mazesoba, you get a side of rice to mix into the remaining sauce in the bottom of your bowl, which comes out to quite a bit of food. I was definitely satisfied.I came here as an alternative to another restaurant, but it deserves so much better. Now, whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I'm choosing this place first, for sure.HIGHLY recommend.“
“We've been long time patrons of Menya on Broadway, and recently tried the Franklin Foodlab frozen options for home.Delighted by how delicious our bowl were and how easy they were to prepare at home. Vegan Miso and Spicy Tonkotsu bowls. All we're missing is a nice marinated soy egg. Will definitely try out some of the other options“
“Maruhachi is my favorite ramen place before it changed its old name “marutama”. This one is the Gaiden of maruhachi which means it has something different. I ordered the Torisoba which has chicken broth chicken chashu and not pork used. It has a different taste than the original broth but delicious as well! Nowadays they offer the original ramen i.e. tamago ramen and so on. But if you are going to try this place, you should try something different like tsukw-men or torisoba! Also I should confess that chicken chashu is not as good as original pork chashu and that may be why people only make chashu in pork.“
“We read reviews on three platforms and we still decided to try Kokoro. My family and I are happy we did! They were even considerate enough to give our son a special dessert on his birthday! You've gained our business and you will definitely see us dining here again!!!!!“
“Authentic flavors. Great spice on the spicy dishes. The noodles are made to order and the kitchen is small so can be a bit slow. Dishes are large and priced accordingly. If you like spice the 大盘菜 is great with thinly sliced pork belly. Would not recommend thE 韭菜盒子 minimal filling and slightly flaky dough just doesn't taste right to me.“
“? I’M CRAVING SOME NOODS ?We finally had the chance to try out @taishokencanada last week and it definitely hit all the right spots. This small ramen shop on the edge of Chinatown has been serving their signature Tsukemen and Aton lotus ramens for years now. I remember always walking past this ramen shop and being enticed by the smell of their broth wagging out onto the street. And now that I’ve had the chance to try their ramen, I’m beating myself up for not stepping through the doors sooner.Their signature Tsukemen (dipping ramen) is one of the better ones that I’ve tried in Vancouver. You eat Tsukemen by dipping the dry noodles into a condensed broth and slurping it up bite by bite. Once you’re finished with the noodles, you can even ask for a clear broth to dilute your dipping broth so that you can enjoy a post-ramen soup. We tried all three of the Tsukemen broths—original, karamaiso, and spicy. My personal favourite was definitely the spicy, even though I’m not usually a fan of spicy soups. I just found that one to have the most depth of flavour. The noodles were also perfectly chewy but still bouncy at the same time.Their Creamy Tomato ramen though, stole both of our hearts. Each strand of noodle was coated in that delicious tangy, sweet, and umami broth. The melted cheese topping also gave each bite a super rich cream flavour. Even the tofu was soaked in that tomato flavour. My best friend and I couldn’t stop slurping this one. This ramen is also vegetarian friendly—and I promise you will not be disappointed. We also tried out their Okonomi Gyoza as an appetizer which was really delicious as well. I really enjoyed the added flavour from the bonito flakes and okonomiyaki sauce. The bottoms of the gyoza were perfectly seared, giving each bite a nice crunch. If you guys haven’t checked this place out yet, I would definitely recommend you stop by the next time you’re in the area. I haven’t been this satisfied by a bowl of ramen in quite a while. What’s your favourite type of ramen?⭐️9/10??♀️10/10?$$ (aprox. $20/person)?Taishoken Ramen | 515 Abbott St, Vancouver[media]“
“Unlike the other insulting overpriced noodle place in the neighborhood, Kokoro's price is decent, food is amazing. They even have low carbs noodles option! I like it so much I tried the whole menu. Hands down my favourite comfort food restaurant in the neighborhood.“
“Such delicious food. I am a total novice and the soya / pork broth one was fab. I ordered extra veg and gave my friend my meat. My friend has the spicy one - quite oily with little spice (and I am usually rubbish with spice). Kimchi was great too but made at the Korean place on robson and haro.“
“the intertior is so cute!! the shio ramen i got was also a FLAVOUR BOMBB, chewy noodles and broth gave a punch of flavour. portion sizes are pretty good as well, not too much or too little. on a weekday night we got a spot right away before a waitlist started to form ? servers were super nice and checked up on us often!Dietary restrictions: vegan options“
“The food is delicious. The broth is complex and flavourful, albeit it misses the expected lower notes of gyokai. The egg was boiled at too high a temperature a bit; overcooked yolk on the edges and still runny in the middle. The marinade for it is pleasantly sweet though. The other toppings are average, and the noodles had good bite to them. Overall an enjoyable bowl, but pricier than average in the city. The service staff are very enthusiastic, though they will clear your area complete with wiping it down the minute you put your spoon down. It gives the impression they want you to eat and get out asap. Loud, bar like atmosphere and seating, not conducive to conversation.“
“We tried at least one of everything on the menu and from start to finish it was amazing! You could taste the love in the hand made Gyoza and the attention to detail in the perfectly cooked noodles. My favourite part has to have been the warm and generous family that owns the restaurant. Very attentive servers that anticipated our every need! A must try for Ramen & Gyoza lovers - you’ll be hooked!“
“Good food however wish there was more customization options like more toppings or extra spice if you would like but overall good service is good not really anything bad to say and the inside is really nice the atmosphere is the best part good good “
“Food was actually good we both loved it, i got the truffle noodles was very tasty , the pieces of meat my food had was too small and nothing, like wasnt worth the price , very thin i was surprised but the tastes was good , on the other side the other food was good and had more slices of meat in it which makes more sense, picture may not show it as it was but substantially the truffle noodle almost had no meat ,i will go back to try it again as the taste was good, unfortunately our server wasn’t welcoming neither the other lady working there looked so sharp and fast and happy and helped our table too even tho our waitress was someone else , she wouldn’t even bring an extra plate to share the appies we got and when i asked for plate she was surprised people share appies together the may not want to eat in one plate all together, appi was soo good too! Taste in general was great thanks to chef, cozy place to walk in to and have tasty food, portion was normal towards small than big , worth trying it“
“The food was good, and the server was super kind. My friend and I usually go to another ramen place, and we decided to go try the ramen here since it's kinda new and it's close to our workplace. The place was cozy, and they were very welcoming. I tried spicy chicken ramen, but I was not sure how spicy level I could handle. The server offered the sauce on the side, and we really enjoyed our soup with extra sauce. It was very filling so we couldn't try the dessert.“
“Would recommend sizing up because their regular option is really tiny. Vancouver diet culture makes people go for the regular option but you’re paying 17 bucks for your meal so might as well make sure you’re actually full. The noodles were good - not the best I’ve tasted but in terms of affordability, Kokoro hits the spot.“
“The Santouka Ramen Chain is always a solid, this is the benchmark for all ramen in the city (Danbo lovers don't @ me).I opted for the Happy Hour Menu (from 3PM - 6PM) which offers a choice from 3 sides (3 Pieces of Zangi, 3 Pieces of Goro-Niku Gyoza and 3 Pieces of Takoyaki). The ramen in the picture is the Shoyu Ramen which is regular size (they offer a small size which will bring the price down $1, or you can up the size to a large for $1.50).As a firm thin noodle lover, I have no complaints with the ramen quality. The broth was incredibly rich and the Char Siu is soft and flavorful. You definitely need to opt in for the Ajitama soft boiled egg as I genuinely think it's probably one of the best in the city. The Zangi is decent, but the Gyoza is a must order.Note that the restaurant does not allow outside foods for celebratory birthday cakes.“
“These guys deserve way higher ratings, IMO. The chef special noodles are simple, but every ingredient is distinct and fresh. If you’re expecting something super fancy, this isn’t the place. If you just want extreme simplicity well-executed, give this place a shot.“
“Had the ramen of my dreams here.Stopped by on a Wednesday night and grabbed a seat at the bar.It was a small place, only 5 tables and they will only seat you once every one arrives. There was a line most of the time I was dining.I had the spicy garlic ramen and it had such great flavour, spicy in a flavorful but not overpowering way. Noodles were soft and tender with great chews.Staff wasn’t overly friendly, but you don’t go there for the staff.Would definitely recommend and would be worth waiting in line for.“
“My parents and I ordered 5 items but I have picture of only the first dish. That’s because they all looked so good so we dove right it and ate and forgot to take any picture. It was Easter Sunday. I took my parents around town to look at cherry blossoms. It was around lunch time when we drove through Kerrisdale on the way to UBC so we decided to stop and look for a restaurant. Zubu was the 3rd one we checked out. The menu looked good and we grabbed a bar height table by the window. We ordered:- chicken karaage (8-pc)- edamame- my parents each had a mini tonkotsu ramen- I had the poke bowlThe chicken karaage pieces were generous in size. The coating was light and crispy and the meat was juicy and tender. My parents were glad that there were mini size offerings for ramen which were perfect for them. My dad had a regular and my mom had a medium-spicy (2 on their 4-pt scale). She said it wasn’t spicy at all although she could eat raw chili peppers like snacks. My poke bowl was tipped with all the expected fixants which were fresh and flavourful. Portion was generous as well.It was a perfect Easter lunch for us.“
“We went to the Ambleside beach and found this place nearby. We ordered pork katsu and fish katsu. The pork katsu tasted good but we all agree that the fish Katsu was the best! We highly recommend it. I love they have kid menu. The plating looks great. My son enjoyed his meal.Kid-friendliness: The kids meal includes small portions of side dishes that kids love.“
