“Food was great! Halibut and carrot puree was the star of the night. Table layout is a little bit close to each other. Could everything the next table whispered. Sour cream cheese cake was perfect to end the night with. Very light and not heavy like a traditional cheese cake. Out door seating was cute. The environment was warm and inviting. Live acoustic music from the neighboring restaurant was a wonderful added touch.“

“I am surprised about how good this place is. I can see how much efforts and details that the chef put into the food preparation. I can see how staff are trained and selected. Environment is without a doubt very nice and upscale. The only minor thing I noticed is that the wait staff didn't tell me it cost extra to refill your coffee. In general...Love it.“

“After spending most of the day wine tasting and venturing around the Napa Valley, I figure a sweet, creamy dessert would be the ideal treat after a hearty lunch. This takes us on a trip to the small community of Calistoga where I got to try out "Calistoga Creamery. Located directly on Lincoln Ave (Highway 29) and adjacent to Fair Way, this place has been serving up delicious ice cream dating back to 2017. Hours are also very generous as they're opened for business 7 days a week from 12:30-9:30pm. I arrived here during the afternoon of Saturday 4/6/2024 at around 3:50pm. Parking can be challenging but this area surprisingly has a ton of available street parking as well as "Cal Mart" which is a block away. Keep in mind that the this place has a very small interior with no seating. However, there is ample outdoor seating for the more comfortable days (weather permitting). All of their ice cream and frozen yogurt is organic and made fresh. Since I had eaten a fairly big lunch, I ended up going with one small scoop of their "Cookies & Cream"; priced at $5.00 (including tax). During my visit, it was absolutely packed with customers so it was tough to really look at their entire selection. And during my visit, there was only one employee that took the order, scooped your ice cream, and rung up the transaction. Kudos to her for doing a stellar job. With that said and done, "Calistoga Creamery" is an above average ice cream parlor with a nice variety to choose from. When I first entered, I noticed the aromatic scent of cinnamon as they actually use a small triangular waffle cone in that flavor to add to your ice cream cone or cup. Great location, excellent customer service, decent prices, and tasty ice cream is why I give this place an above average four star rating.“

“We stopped into the Hydro Bar & Grill to have a break from the day. We were greeted immediately and sat outside with our dog. The staff was excellent and provided our dog with water while we waited. The food was literally off the charts - the PIZZA - AMAZING! Salads were a refreshing taste to the 80+ degree weather. The streets were so peaceful, the ambiance was refreshing. Definitely coming back here next time we are in town, highly recommend!“

“Lovely lunch spot in the heart of Calistoga, the staff are really friendly and we got a good table inside with a view looking out on the street. We ordered 2 wraps and they were really tasty, especially the chicken Caesar one. We also ordered a southwest chicken wrap which was a little too spicy for our liking and we didn't realise it would taste this way. Otherwise it is a lovely spot for lunch and I would still return.“

“I will say this, wine tasting is an excellent way to work up your appetite. And what better way than enjoying some hearty comfort food smack dap in historic downtown Calistoga? This takes me none other to "House of Better". Located directly on Lincoln Ave (Highway 29) and adjacent to Fair Way, this place has been serving delicious plates dating back to early-2021. They do have generous hours of operation being opened for business 7 days a week from 8am-8pm while being open an hour later at 9pm on Friday & Saturday nights. I came here for what would be a late lunch/early dinner during the afternoon of Saturday 4/6/2024 at around 2:50pm. My significant other and I parked just a block away at nearby Cal Mart and made the short 2-minute walk to the business. To give you an idea of what this place is all about, it is primarily an outdoor type atmosphere with Astroturf throughout, Adirondack chairs, hanging lights (after the sun goes down), a large pizza oven, a nearby swing, picnic tables, heat lamps, and an indoor shack (in case the weather is not cooperative). This place is also directly next to "Dr. Wilkinson's Resort & Mineral Spring" which is a hotel that includes an outdoor pool and other amenities including a dedicated mud bath area. As far as the menu goes, this place offers mainly that Tex-Mex cuisine combined with American, Spanish, and Mexican bites all in one. Best of all, they serve breakfast + brunch (until 2pm), small bites, all day dishes, pies, and a full bar that serves sangria, margaritas, beer, Kombucha, well drinks, and even hot + iced espresso drinks. Since I was starving, I ended up going with their "Green Chile Burger" (for $20). This burger offers Kobe beef, aged cheddar cheese, grilled onions, roasted green chiles, pickled onions, & seasoned french fries w/ketchup and chipotle aioli sauces. My lady went with their "Grains + Grills Kale Salad w/Chicken" (for $24). This warm salad had a blend of quinoa, black beans, jicama, and chipotle lime vinaigrette. To drink, I tried the "Corazon"; beet-infused agave wine margarita & oranges while she went with their "Red Sangria". Since it was a cool 58°F day, we took advantage eating inside the cozy shack area. Our drinks arrived in just a few minutes while our food followed shortly after. My burger was made to perfection as the patty was hearty and very juicy. It also had that nice spicy kick while the bun was slightly toasted. In all fairness, it was a good burger but priced a little high at $20. My lady also said her Grains + Grills was delicious but that too was priced steep at $18 and $6 more when you add the chicken. However, my agave margarita was tasty and quite filling. All in all, "House of Better" is definitely worth checking out and if you are okay spending around $40 for lunch, I say go for it. The employees & service were top notch, food was made to perfection, ambiance and atmosphere was unique and one-of-a-kind. Just the outdoor area alone is absolutely worth checking out. Therefore, when you factor everything in, I am giving House of Better an above average four-star rating.“

“We were looking for a light meal in Calistoga on a Monday evening when not many restaurants were open. We bought takeout food from this small restaurant. The food was very good and not expensive. “We took a chance on this Thai place as it's the only one in town and we were visiting Calistoga for the weekend. This place is authentic and pleasantly surprised us!! We got the fresh rolls, curried duck, and crying tiger beef (I think that was the name). The beef was sooo flavorful, it didn't need the sauce that came with it. Very glad we decided to eat here.“

“We liked the food and drinks a lot, and our server was nice. What was very disappointing was the hostess. We made these reservations months ago. Once we checked in, hostess asked if inside was ok. I said we preferred outside. We were in Calistoga on a sunny day at 6:30 pm, I didn't want to be inside. She said she has nothing outside. That's it!? I asked how long would a wait be for seats outside, as we did have a reservations and I personally don't like the open seating plan inside (I feel like I'm seated too closely to other and have no privacy). 30 min was her reply. No smile, no I'm sorry, no “would you like to sit at the bar and have a drink until table outside opens up”... nothing... It felt like she didn't care if we stayed or left (which I would have done, if it wasn't for my husband not wanting to make a scene). Maybe she could not accommodate us, but some friendly exchange would have made it better. This kind of unfriendly interaction shaded the entire experience for me, unfortunately. So if you care where you sit make sure you call and specify.“

Gnocchi

“This is a nice spot on Lincoln Ave. It's definitely on the higher end, but most of the restaurants in town are. The ambiance was pleasant - classy but comfortable. I really liked all the classic pictures of Calistoga that they had on the walls. The menu has a little bit of everything - seafood, pasta, steak, chicken. I had the chicken abruzzi. The sauce was very good. I was excited for the accompanying polenta, but the kitchen mistakenly thought polenta was not gluten free and gave me mashed potatoes instead. I didn't want to waste anything, so I just accepted the potatoes, but I was bummed. The waitstaff was apologetic and offered to give me a side, but I declined. My husband had the paella and loved it. Good amount of spice and lots of meat and seafood. The sausage was a little tough, but it didn't detract from the dish. We also shared the lemon pie with berry compote and it was tasty. Also, side note - the bread and butter they offer the table while you're waiting was dry and flavorless, according to my husband.“
