“We were greeted almost the moment we stepped through the front door. After sliding into a booth, our server, Sara, graciously took drink orders. After reviewing their ample menu, we settled on grilled cheese with soup and one of their specialties, fish and chips. The kettle chips that come with the sandwich were amazing! Good tomato soup and hearty cheese portion on the sandwich. Crispy batter on the fish which included fresh coleslaw. Their Happy Hour is from 4-7pm M-F. “Ordered New York & Shrimp to-go, white rice w/vegetables adding Miso soup. White rice was the best part, don't get me wrong the food was good just not worth $45.14. The Teriyaki sauce tasted like it was made by a white guy trying too hard to cook Japanese food.The vegetables were cooked perfectly! I became a bit spoiled for Japanese food in HB from eating at Matsu (Beach & Talbert) since 1978, but this was okay food, I really can't complain much. I am wondering why at 7:30PM on a Wednesday night the dining room was a ghost town?!?It was the best Japanese food I've had on Beach Blvd. in HB for a long time. Matsu has gone downhill since it changed ownership in the 90's, but I think I found my new favorite Japanese restaurant to eat at in HB.I think I was happy with my food overall, I'll give it a solid 7 out of 10. If the staff were a bit more friendly, I'd give you another point, let's see what happens the next time I visit this restaurant.Good job people. ?Parking: This restaurant is located in the old HB Fire Station across the street from Taco Bell, plenty of parking but would be better if it had a little bit more lighting.“
“After going to the Garden Amp for a concert, a group of us were looking for a place to grab and drink and a bite to eat. We found this place on Yelp and so we decided to give it a try. This place is in a industrial but the wife and I like dives so we came in. Unfortunately, the owner let us know that the kitchen was closed so I went out to inform our group. We decided to have a drink anyways but when we walked in Paula met us at the door with that huge smile and said that they could offer us a limited. We quickly ordered 5 burgers and fries. BTW, the buns are made there at Henry's, that is a nice and rare move for a small dive bar, right? The beer offerings were pretty decent. I had a Blue Moon and my friends had Fuzzy... something or other. I was laughing and talking so I don't know exactly. My wife did get the Cardiff Cab Sauvignon that was pretty decent. What makes a great dive bar is the crowd and this place had a great group. The table next to us was serenading the room with both Bolero's and some great country hits. Their fun was infectious. “Myself and my spouse have been eating here for the last 6 or so years now. I can say the quality of the food, staff and overall restaurant is great! It's an intersection of locals, folks who are "in the know" and tourists it seems like, emphasis on locals. I generally don't think that is always the tried-and-true sign of a good eating establishment, but in this case it certainly rings true. Their portions are great, the quality and consistency of the food is great. It's a bit of a vestige of an older era of restaurants/bars that simply served good food, a vibrant bar, and a little bit of something for everyone. I think perhaps due to ownership, kitchen staff and waitstaff they've really been able to keep it at a very good quality while not having to reinvent themselves or update to modern "culinary experiences" that many of us are used to seeing today in newer establishments. It's really worth checking out- it's unpretentious, offers consistent, quality food and great service.“

“This is the most perfect bar. The bartenders are so great and don't even get me started on the food. I'm not local, so when I'm in town I make it my top priority to come here for a patty melt. This may sound dramatic to some, but if you get it then you get it. To most people it is just a patty melt, but to me it is a beacon of hope and a reminder that there is good in this world.
