Located in a funky little strip mall full of fishing shops, this bodacious deli serves up some gnarly grub that will leave your tastebuds hanging five. Scoring a parking spot can be a bit of a bummer with all the switched-on surfers filling up the lot, but it's well worth maneuvering into a tight spot to soak up the heavenly aromas wafting from this hip hole-in-the-wall. I bellied up and ordered the Admiral's Avocado Delight sandwich - which may just be the most epic thing ever assembled between two slices of bread! “Hungry lu's is so good! I've been looking for good Italian sandwiches around San Diego for quite a while now. I'm so glad that I found this Italian sandwich shop. I've had their pastrami sandwich here and it was quite delicious. It had a lot of flavor and seemed like it was brined really well. Next time around I tried their Italian sandwich since it was an Italian sandwich bakery store. They did not disappoint. It was fantastic, there was a lot of meat in the sandwich which I appreciate and the bread was nice and toasted. These two are some of my favorite sandwiches in San Diego. Hungry lu's uses a lot of fresh ingredients in their sandwiches and it shows. They gave me such a cool old school Italian sandwich shop vibe and I absolutely love it. “Great spot, I already can't wait to come back! The food was delicious overall. We shared the brisket dip and half + half rueben. The brisket was a bit dry but the dip sauce was so unbelievably tasty it made up for it. The breads were so good too. The side of potatoes was perfect and better than the cucumber tomato salad, which had a lot of unexpected dill and not many tomatoes. I also ordered a delish sounding iced tea, but it tasted bitter and oversteeped to me. They were nice enough to let me swap out for a hot tea, but I would have loved a solid iced black tea. It's order at the counter so I suggest adding a water station, because we had to track someone down to ask for water, which took a while to come to the table. Still such a good meal and an awesome menu with many more things I want to try!“

“I pass by Big Front Door often heading to work. Decided to stop in and give it a try this afternoon. I got their Cobbler salad and my friend got the chicken parmesan sandwich. The portion sizes are very generous, I asked for extra dressing with my salad and didn't really need it as there was a decent amount left. The food tasted great and was served up without much of a wait time. The star of the show was the gentleman that helped us though! I wish I had taken the time to get his name to give him proper credit. He greeted us, made small talk while my friend and I decided what to have and as we were leaving he offered to clear our table for us. Very polite and friendly! A burger so good it made me get on my phone immediately just to right a review. The online order was super easy to use and when I saw how easy it was to customize the salad I wanted I kinda went to town. “Came here with my sister and was greeted by such nice people. The lady who prepared our sandwich was very lovely and helpful. Customized our sandwiches to whatever request we had. We split the Sherry Special and the Jerk Chicken. Both sandwiches were really good and filling. The place is exactly what the name is, Liquor and Deli! They did have a couple seats outside if you wanted to sit down and eat. Definitely a pick and go place. Would recommend if you are looking for a quick bite to eat. Came here in the afternoon on a Wednesday only one person ahead of us in line. Not sure how busy it will be on a weekend.“
