“*What is Venezuelan food?* It IS NOT Mexican, Peruvian, or Argentinian food. DO NOT BE LOOKING for spicy elements, HOT salsas, jalapeños or peppers. It is unique and complex; and it is not Americanized. It is what it is, Venezuelan cuisine. You must learn to appreciate it. It is not way around. Venezuelan cuisine is a vibrant and diverse fusion of indigenous, African, and European influences. The country's geographical location, with its proximity to the Caribbean Sea and the Andes Mountains, has led to a rich variety of ingredients and flavors in Venezuelan food. One of the defining characteristics of Venezuelan cuisine is its use of corn, which is a staple in many dishes. Arepas, a type of cornmeal flatbread, are a popular breakfast food that can be filled with various meats, cheeses, and vegetables. Another corn-based dish is hallacas, a type of tamale filled with a mixture of meat, olives, and raisins, and wrapped in plantain leaves. These are often served during special occasions and holidays. Meat is also a significant component in Venezuelan cuisine, with dishes such as pabellon criollo, a hearty meal made of shredded beef, black beans, rice, and fried plantains. Another popular meat dish is asado negro, a slow-cooked beef roast flavored with dark caramel sauce. Seafood is also abundant in Venezuela, with dishes like pescado frito (fried fish) and cazuela de mariscos (seafood stew) being popular choices. Venezuelan food is also known for its use of tropical fruits, such as mangoes, papayas, and passion fruit, in both savory and sweet dishes. One famous dessert is tres leches cake, a sponge cake soaked in a mixture of condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream, creating a rich and creamy texture. Another sweet treat is tequeños, fried cheese sticks wrapped in a thin pastry dough and often served as an appetizer. In addition to its diverse flavors and ingredients, Venezuelan cuisine also has a strong emphasis on communal dining. Meals are often shared with family and friends, and it is common for large gatherings to revolve around food. This communal aspect of Venezuelan food reflects the country's warm and welcoming culture. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing economic and political crisis in Venezuela, access to food has become a major issue for many citizens. However, despite the challenges, Venezuelans continue to find ways to preserve and celebrate their culinary traditions, keeping their vibrant and flavorful cuisine alive. From traditional dishes to street food and fusion cuisine, Venezuelan food is a reflection of the country's history, culture, and resilience.“

“Very good Korean fare in a laid back setting. Ollei serves up tasty late night grub and vibes in Russian Hill. The grill is burning, the meat is cooking, soups are boiling, the drinks are flowing and kpop is popping, this is a good Korean restaurant in San Francisco. Tasty food at an affordable price and where you can also go to throw a couple back as well. It was the perfect place to warm up on a cold SF night, food and drink wise. I’m definitely coming back to try various other dishes. Very good.Kid-friendliness: Not really“

“Cute little Japanese curry joint across the street from the LGBT Center. Kinda limited menu, but they do a great job at what they offer. Curry is the highlight, but other dishes are strong. Corn Potage Soup: Not something I'd order normally, if it weren't for all the photos of it here. But I'm glad I succumbed to peer pressure, since this was so delightful. Creamy and really corny, like how Japanese grape candy tasty really grape-y, this soup was excessively corny. Plus the little ramekin of mini crotons was fun to mix in throughout the soup. Teppanji: This was essentially chicken karaage served on a sizzling platter in some sort of sweet vinegary sauce with lots of onions. I liked all the flavors, but the crispy batter of the karaage quickly became soft and mushy. Still very tasty chicken. So a mixed experience. Signature Katsu Curry (Pork): With curry in the restaurant's name, you know you better try it. Full of great flavors and very savory, but not hot spicy. Though there were six different pepper shakers on the table to spice it up, if you want. I was torn because I do like the chili heat, but I was also trying to appreciate all the complex ingredients in the curry and didn't to overpower it. So I would occasionally just sprinkle chili only on a forkful of curry drench meat I was about to eat. The pork katsu was nice, quick fried and crispy, perfect vehicle to catch a bunch of curry sauce. Also, the little scoop of mayo-heavy potato salad was a nice way to cool the palate between bites. Beef Hayashi Om-Rice: After trying their signature curry, I was curious to try what the menu called "European-style gravy sauce". I've had a lot of European food and it really wasn't like any gravy I've known. It was more like a less spicy Japanese curry sauce that was strong on the onions and little sweet. Served with lots of nice thin slices of beef, kinda like Yoshinoya beef. The omurice was a nice pairing, adding a bit more personality than regular rice. Lots of yummy gravy to go around. +Menchi Katsu: Added on this deep fried pork patty for a little extra protein. It wasn't quite dense like a Jimmy Dean sausage patty. It seemed breaded on the inside, but still meaty, so had a croquette texture. I liked it, went well with the gravy. Yuzu Lemonade: Aromatic and refreshing. Not as tart/sour as some lemonade. Found it a nice crisp way to counter the fried food. Assam Black Milk Tea: I was warned that this was very sweet, but that made me want this even more! It was like having bubble tea, without the boba. Nice and cooling for when I go a little crazy with the chili powder.“

Food is always delicious as are the cocktails. Staff is lovely and always offers good suggestions. The duck carbonara, one of their signature dishes, is delicious and great to share since it’s rich. I’m a big proponent of sharing as it allows you to taste more. Hazie’s menu is great for sharing.“

“I only wish any of my uncles or titos could cook like this.Maybe an auntie or a tita could, but I dare not say anything bad about their cooking. Ever. Seriously. For those who know, you know.Back to this spot :Lechon is the best I've had in a while. Crispy morsels of pork belly that have that perfect balance of meat, crunch, and rendered fat. Portions are suppose to be more than bite size but it was so good, there's no way you don't eat it whole.Wings are ok. Sauced nicely but the breading is a little heavy. What really caught my attention was the all purpose sauce. To me, it's like a creamy adobo sauce and is crazy delicious. And all purpose doesn't nearly begin to describe what this sauce can be used for. To date, I have yet to find something it doesn't make taste better.Service, for the time being anyway, is pretty good considering it's a shared space.Lastly, the ambiance is at times a sports bar with all the tvs at times but then looks like (from a ton of IG pics) a karaoke party. Either way, fun.Anyways, I look forward to their new location.“

She answered my dietary restriction questions about the menu, had good energy, and provided fast service. I will be stopping at Wilder the next time I am in the city from here on out!“

“La Fusión was an amazing find by one of colleagues. This was suggested as a team outing since we finally have a full team now! They opened around 11:30, but to our surprise there was no line and no one at the restaurant at all. We were seated and greeted immediately by the manager and staff there. This is close by to Sajj Mediterranean! This is a smaller restaurant, but there are plenty of tables and chairs at the bar to enjoy everything. Everyone was super nice and friendly, and they made sure to go over the menu with us, as well as any specials they had.Water was being brought to our table before we ordered anything. I ended up getting the como saltado and that was $34. My team also ended up getting one of each empanada to share among us. Everyone else got the same item, or the rotisserie chicken. The como saltado was delicious! It was made fresh to order and I absolutely loved the flavors of this dish. You got chunks of tender, juicy beef with refreshing chunks of tomato and French fries! I typically have a love hate relationship with tomato's, but I ate everything UP. This does come with a bed of rice which was cooked perfectly. The only empanada I got to try was the seafood one. That one as delicious and I loved the outer shell, which was super crispy. Definitely a great starter to our meal. I'm not too sure how much we paid since our supervisor paid for our meal, but this is definitely on the list to come back again! Very pleased with our experience, the service, and how warm + inviting everyone is.“

Got there before the rest of the party but didn’t get anything except water til we were all seated. Had I known that, then I would have sat at the bar to order a drink.Came here a year ago with a large group.
