“Great wine, food and atmosphere. One salad is more than enough for two people. We got the Retsina wine which was off the hook, soft, velvety and delicious. We got the soup which was reminiscent of Tom Kha in a way and also delicious. Greek fries and lamb salad were also made just right and the food was brought out so quickly. “If I don't know where to eat I go.to souvla. The alvogmenon? Soup is my go to if I don't know what to eat or don't know what I'm doing with my life. The protein from the yogurt and the low sugar content and offerings of salt olive oil, and honey are just essential for the body and so good for you it's something you can eat any time for any reason. I also love the decor, the owner has such a vision. And the New York coffee cups? Iconic. Love this place so much“

“This was my first time here but definitely not my last!!! Friendly service and delicious food!!! I loved the unique flavors in the chicken wrap…fennel and orange slices…delicious pita bread!!! The frozen Greek yogurt with a choice of syrup topping was so good 🥰“

“Ayola holds a special place in my heart. I used to frequent Ayola at least once a week when I worked in San Francisco. I work outside of San Francisco now, so it's not as easy for me to come get my fix. I still haven't found another place that tastes as good or better Greek/Mediterranean food.

My favorite is their Chicken Gyro, and their fries are just as amazing. Pairing it with their hot sauce is phenomenal!

On the floor level, there's a few tables to sit down if you wish to dine in, and there's a few spots to sit on the upper level as well, but it's a pretty tiny shop.

“TL;DR - One of the best orders of fries I've had and the veggie sandwich is amazing.

Food:
- Veggie sandwich: The olives are not overbearing and instead provide the perfect balance for the other veggies and sauce. Very good

- Fries w/Harissa - These were honestly some of the best fresh fries I've ever had. They were cooked perfectly and not overly oily. ? Unfortunately, the Harissa sauce seemed to lack enough Harissa. It mostly just tasted like sour cream but this is a minor fix.

Dessert:
- Frozen Greek Yogurt: I find that most Greek yogurts are either very grainy or sour but this was neither. It has a nice subtle flavor. While I was not a big fan of the oil and salt variant, the sour cherry fit the taste profile just right.“

“Souvla is a must spot for me! I eat here at least once a week.

Great for a casual meal for people new to the city without breaking the bank — they are cheaper options, but Souvla’s seating area (and music choice) is top quality per dollar of how much the food is. Friendly service from 11am - 10pm is quite the feat as well!

The food:
Amazing — my go-to 100% of the time is the chicken salad without granch (olive oil and cheese only) and I make it Greek style which adds 7-12 super fresh fries. It’s great for OMAD fasting!“

“hello everyone. A week ago, I was in San Francisco with a friend. We stopped at Pita Gyros and bought falafel and coffee. I've tried falafel in other places, this one was the best: fresh, crispy, the way I like it. There is also coffee and sweets. (everything is nearby), we were pleasantly surprised, the service was good and, most importantly for me, the kitchen and cooking area are very clean. I definitely recommend it!!!“

“Hotel is an historic property and very nice. The regular guest rooms are small. I was disapointed that when I got to my room, the paint was peeling off the ceiling from what looks like a water leak. Also high dusting is not being done regularly as shelves, frames, etc in the room are dusty. Be careful when placing your whites on the shelves in the closet. Managemet offered to change my room however, I was already unpacked and tired from my travels so I stayed in the room.“

“My wife, son and myself went to dinner tonight and food was absolutely amazing. Staff were polite and friendly and full of enthusiasm about the food. The braised lamb shank melted in your mouth and the greek salad was so refreshing and the tomatoes were so fresh that I felt I was in a garden picking them myself. The green hummus was full of fresh herbs and I didn't know what to expect but luckily the owner brought a complimentary plate out because I was so full from all the food we got that I felt guilty for not being able to finish it.“

I like European cuisine (Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Ukraine, Germany) - I can say that it's not bad for pork without marinade, but it's not Greek souvlaki - just portioned pork on a skewer. French fries want to be better (dry). An acquired taste. I wish to listen to the comments and make the food more colorful and traditional.“

“I love this tiny delicious place. I found it when I attended the San Francisco Paramedic Association that used to be on Mission. The gyros and fries are amazing. I dont get to the city often as of late but Im so glad Ayola survived through the pandemic. So good!“

“TLDR: huge plate of quality Mediterranean food for under $15 in the FiDi!

I came here ordering takeout and the plates averaged around $13. I got the mixed combo plate and though it didn’t come with rice, it came with beef and chicken, hummus, salad, bread, falafel and dolma which were all great! Service was friendly, food came out quickly and I even got some hot sauce with my dips! Would definitely come back“

“I’d been trying to find a place that sold Dubai chocolate bars in San Francisco and finally found it at Cafe Elena! Their Dubai chocolate bar is awesome! Dark chocolate, pistachio filling, not too sweet. Family-owned business, wife makes the chocolate bars, super friendly owner.“

“We came in for dinner on SB Sunday... The restaurant is located on Polk Street and parking can be difficult at any time of the day or night. We got in, and found that we were the only patrons in the place. We figured everyone else was still watching the game/post game etc...
The interior is really nice and our server was great. What turned us off though was that the staff was talking and joking the entire time we were there. Not about us, but just that regular chatter and kidding around. But, they were really loud and annoying.
The menu is good and has a nice variety of items to select from.
We began with the mixed Meze platter - this was an excellent choice, and the star of the night with so many items to try. The muhammara was our favorite though.
For the mains, we both enjoyed the Musakka, and shared the brussel sprouts dish. Brussel sprouts were excellently prepared. The Musakka was very good, but admittedly we have had better elsewhere.
Overall, Dunya is a very good restaurant to have a nice Mediterranean meal for lunch or dinner.“

“I smelled it before I got there no always looking for “the right food cooked by the right people!” I had a bowl with chicken which I could cut with a the plastic spoon 😍 with rice and lentils very flavorful too with the Israel salad all that flavor in one bowl was the best by far! My friend who’s vegan was very satisfied had a falafel bowl which she started eating as we walked down the street! She had smashed it by the time we made to the tables at Union Square. The food delicious the portions huge and the price right! On another note when we arrived they were out of rice and of course they made me some fresh very much appreciated ❤️“

“I tried their falafel sandwich (wrap) and it was the best. My mom and friends tried both their chicken and beef shawarma and said they were so good.

My friends didn't like their tabula though and we were a little concerned about the cleanliness of the place.

“I can't say anything about the inside of the restaurant since I had Uber eats deliver from 8mile. It was my first time having detroit style pizza. So my expectations were super high.
